January Transfer Window (rumours + actuals)

If agents are getting in touch about, say, a midfielder to us on loan, I would ask them to itemise each midfielder we already have at the club, and how their guy is better.
I think that would be one way of detecting agent bullshit.0 -

Not even close. This is a club that spent multiple millions of pounds on Djimi Traore. Is he disappointing, yes. Pound for pound worst EVER? No I'm not having that.J BLOCK said:

In regards to Campbell I think he's had one decent game vs Birmingham and that's it!
I wrote on twitter after the Preston game that I genuinely think we need to cut our losses with Gas and try and get a fee for him this window as his re-sale value will plummet come the summer. What's he on a 2 or 3 year deal?
Gas is a 4 year deal.1 -
Gary Rowett, not his fault but £3.5m for 13 appearances was pretty awful.MarcusH26 said:
Izale Mcleod will always top my pound for pound worst list. £1m+ and the only things I remember was him winning 2 pens against Norwich that Reid scored and getting retrospectively banned for an elbow away at Northwich.Todds_right_hook said:

they were both free signings though, and gas cost somewhere between £300k and £7.5bn, depending on which posters you believe8 -
And how much more would that be in todays transfers. Transfer Fees have gone up tenfold in the last couple of decadesNorth Lower Neil said:

Now I know its maybe not that simple to move players on and bring new faces in, but if we are perceived to be one of the "bigger" clubs in L1, why are we not competing for at least one of the following:
Dion Charles [Bolton Wanderers - Huddersfield] Undisclosed
Joe Taylor [Luton - Huddersfield] Undisclosed
Joel Randall [Peterborough - Bolton] Undisclosed
All would add value to our squad at the expense of a couple of others.
For me Joe Taylor would have added pace...which other than TC we don't have!
Randall would have been that 10 who adds creativity...which we don't have
Ok granted Charles might not have been a great upgrade on what we already have.3 -
Think the answer for 2 of them is we already have 6 strikers on the books, you can argue if they would have been an upgrade but you still need to shift a couple out to make space. Randall is an interesting one as he’s a good player but Posh aren’t known for letting people go on the cheap. Suspect that might be a reason Bolton had to sell Charles.dmccart32 said:Now I know its maybe not that simple to move players on and bring new faces in, but if we are perceived to be one of the "bigger" clubs in L1, why are we not competing for at least one of the following:

Talk of getting two or three in, whilst reducing the squad size means probably four going out, I just don’t see it.2

We won’t pay the fees players such as those would cost.dmccart32 said:Now I know its maybe not that simple to move players on and bring new faces in, but if we are perceived to be one of the "bigger" clubs in L1, why are we not competing for at least one of the following:

I think Ahadme is the only player we’ve rumoured to have paid £500k+ for, and even that isn’t one we’re certain on what the initial up front fee was.0 -
Totally agree with the strikers point and know it was never really an option considering all the strikers we currently have.fenaddick said:

We are never going to admit Gas is a mistake and sell him in Jan, but surely maybe loaning out Kanu and getting rid of Hylton could have made room for Joe Taylor? Only reason I say him is because he would be very similar to TC.
Same logic for Randall. I would personally except losing A.Campbell and TT to fit him in.
I know this is all hypothetical as we don't know the sums involved etc.0 -

Huddersfield received a £6m transfer fee this summer. I’m sure if we sold Leaburn for that kind of money we would see a good chunk of it reinvested, as we have with other players sold. Similarly Bolton have bought Randall and sold Charlesdmccart32 said:Now I know its maybe not that simple to move players on and bring new faces in, but if we are perceived to be one of the "bigger" clubs in L1, why are we not competing for at least one of the following:

Not sure it is realistic to expect us to spend that kind of money without selling players first, only Birmingham are doing that and their budget is obviously ridiculous3 -

Frustrating that its got to this where clubs who we are on a peer level with are able/willing to make these deal0 -
Scrap the above...
According to reports Randall was about £1.2m and Taylor in the region of £3m.
We are never going to compete with that as it stands.2 -
We won't use any of the Leaburn money. It will go in the black hole. This is Charlton remember.NabySarr said:

Can we consider your second paragraph to be a rumour?thenewbie said:
Charlton have been generally a bit more circumspect in the Jones era about announcing interest in players, often it doesn't come up until things are pretty close.AberystwythAddick said:Has Richard Cawley taken a step back from rumours, he used to post several on Twitter for multiple clubs, I’ve not seen any so far this year
From the comments that Jones has made I suspect we have a fairly short and specific list of targets and we are not currently that close to completing any of them - but that's not to say work isn't being done.

Joe Taylor is a funny one, masses of potential as shown by his successful loan spells in L2 and L1, and his young age will increase the fee, yet that's a high price for a player who couldn't get into a struggling Luton side in the Championship.1

It was up to £3.5m but we only eventually paid £500,000, which was revealed after Leicester went into Administration.North Lower Neil said:

The "easy" outs ie sending A Campbell back, not extending Hylton's deal, possiby Potts although his contract status may differ, haven't happened or at least not yet been announced.
Asiimwe has gone out on loan but we've got Henry back so no net change.
Whether the plan is to keep Potts, Hylton or Campbell longer term or just until we get others in isn't clear.
But the point about too big a squad was repeatedly made yet we now have as many fit players, with Ramsay, Watson and Mitchell Z back, as we have had all season.
Moving on the fringe/unwanted/in need of a loan players seems to be, from the outside, holding up inward signings, a result of the need, perhaps to balance the wage bill.
On the other hand deals maybe close but negotiations continue as fees and wages are haggled over.3 -
Potts was a short term deal until January, so slightly surprising nothing has been announced yet.1
-
Not sure Henry coming back will have a bearing at all as he’s clearly injured and can be sent back out to a NL side as soon as he’s fit6
-
The trouble is finding another club wanting to buy the players that we want to offload0

When were Wycombe linked with Leaburn? No chance that happens.SoundAsa£ said:

Kanu in theory should be an easy out as well. He's way down the pecking order now that Chuks is back and given his loan at Southend and number of appearances at league one level, i'd be amazed if we can't find him a loan.Henry Irving said:The "easy" outs ie sending A Campbell back, not extending Hylton's deal, possiby Potts although his contract status may differ, haven't happened or at least not yet been announced.
