  • Is the reason we have so few rumours (and only wish list mentions) because we aren’t likely to sign anyone?
  • Darcy is a bit injury prone but definitely a class act & top playmaker when available
Injury prone? Good but not always available? What could possibly go wrong...  :D

If we are to improve we need to get players in who are specialists in one position not sign players because they can fill in in several different roles.
Curbs used versatility to great effect. As a third teir team we don’t have the luxury of specialists in every position with adequate cover.

    You've poked the hornets' nest.......

"Josh Laqeretabua has signed a new long-term contract that runs until 2028, with a club option of an extra year ✍️

    Congratulations, Josh! ❤️"

    We are back.
    Good luck Josh.
Now time to shut the window  thread.
  • Is the reason we have so few rumours (and only wish list mentions) because we aren’t likely to sign anyone?
Or just that the club are keeping their cards close to their chests.

Hmmm.....well we aren't getting our business done early if they are.

More 'out than in' was the gist of the updates regardless.

Oh @Henry Irving you know better than that!     I'm not in the having a "shit fit" period in January yet... but if we are serious about trying to improve the squad and get promoted, we do need to be a little more active than we have been.

I now expect plenty of comments back about the window being open until 31 January etc etc ... but we've been here before sadly.    I am preparing to be underwhelmed.    The day I am whelmed, I shall get the bunting out and celebrate loud and long, mark my words.

But you have no idea how "active" we are and neither do I.

  • I'm only really expecting something like 2 in and 3 out (Inc Asiimwes loan) just don't want us to leave it until Deadline Day and get caught out.

A lot of people will have legitimate reasons to disagree with me, but I am a big fan of promoting our academy products first and foremost when developing the first team.
To that end strangers that are brought in had better be much better, otherwise it’s money down the drain.
I agree its great to see but over recent years they have been pushed too fast too soon and SMT have spoken way too highly about the impact they was having or expecting to make
we will not get promoted with academy players and thats just a fact

until the owners/recruitment actually spend good money and wisely we wont go anywhere

  • If we're only looking to bring a couple in, I wouldn't expect loads of rumours. It's 2 decent players we need, rather than quantity, and there's no massive rush either, seeing that we have a nearly fit squad now.

Well Asimwe is out and no one is in.

Have there loads of rumours about signings that have happened over the last year? - Kayne Ramsay came out of no where, Thierry Small we only knew about in a training video before it was announced.

Since Nathan Jones took over, the leaks have massively reduced.

I'd argue they stopped earlier. TS era was a lot less leaky than ESI (obviously!) but also than certain points under the Belgian

Me too - but it is better for the side that they are brought in, in small numbers, to a settled side with a pattern of play they are used to. As opposed to the panic  model that has applied for the past few years.

I seem to remember Gillesphey being well known about before he arrived last January.

Yes he took a while to get confirmed and was seen watching a match at least a week before he was announced. Rumour at the time was an issue with injury (knee?)

Wasn't he at a game before Christmas and then it took a while to actually be announced? Might have been medical related?
  • So here on this thread we are completely devoid of any new rumours about ins and outs at Charlton. And purely by coincidence, so is Mr Pete O'Rourke.
You seem obsessed with this bloke and he ain’t even that bad.
Yeah I know. Just frustrated with the thread I guess.

But did you believe we’d be in for Clucas?

Depends on what he heard and who from - we don't need Clucas nor do I genuinely think we were ever interested but it's quite possible his agent has been ringing around trying his chances and we were one of the clubs in question.

A purely hypothetical situation I grant you but doesn't seem vanishingly unlikely and thus the line about "contact has been made" or similar is a very journalistic interpretation but not a complete fabrication...

FWIW I completely agree with you about Nixon. The blokes a joke.
