And the bulk of that £1.2M (though hopefully not quite all of it) went on signing and paying Ahadme.
It was clearly stated at start of season that the minimum aim was play offs so I don’t think “top ten” is much of an improvement.
Fans showed a lot of commitment in buying STs this season. Going to be a lot needed to convince most to renew. A good window and positive second half of season will be vital to that - especially if we’re facing yet another (sixth in a row?) season in L1.
Pretty sure it's been put on a thread recently that we didn't pay the bulk of the Ahadme fee up front it was around £325k or so with the rest in add-ons and a promotion bonus? though stand to be corrected.
Yeah it was but not sure the maths adds up there. Otherwise there should be a lot of the May money still sat in the bank.
Doesnt it?
We brought in 5 players on transfer fees in the summer, lets be generous with some of those figures:
Ahadme 300K Godden 200K Mitchell 200k Edwards 85K (a reported figure from Scotland) Dixon 50K
Thats 835K before adding in Docherty and Mannion's signing on fees as well as any potential loan fee for Campbell.*
And seeing as theres a desperation for Ahadme to have actually cost us 800K up front then theres even less left, like, none.
And if Godden and Mitchell cost us 100K each then at most theres 500K left from the May money, but thats being generous and not including wages.
* And of course the unforgettable Potts and Hylton (I believe an itk was on here saying the delay around Potts coming in was because he had some high wage expectations)
Yeah but Ahadme is absolute crap, Godden is meh. It’s like the Sandgaard era never ended.
West Ham, Brighton, Southampton, Middlesbrough, Cardiff, Charlton and Peterborough listed as interested.
This is one that's very very close to home for me , the Award he won is in memory of my dad who died suddenly in 2021 and coached Worthing's youth teams for many years, ended up with Charlton in the FA Youth Cup a month after he died which was the draw we'd always talked about wanting as fans and I think bar James Beadle, Ryan Huke, Toby Bower and Jason Adigun the rest of that side that started have all made first team appearances. Reuben was a part of that side but mainly played LCB in a 352 as opposed to as a fullback.
Feels like one of those links that's throw a load of feasible EFL/PL names at a wall but there might be something in it. Would be nice if we started looking at non league talents a bit more, there's plenty out there as the likes of Wycombe and Peterborough have shown.
Against my better judgement I've clicked twice on Football League World articles on the web referencing us.

This is a disgrace to the profession of journalism. There's nothing at all wrong with coming on here to see what we are saying and then following up with real informed contacts to establish whether there is any basis for it. What is not OK is, in the absence of any such work and confirmation from authoritative sources, to just post the shit up anyway and pretend there is substance to it (the lack of any reference to an authoritative source is the giveaway)

Ahadme was at least 600,000 first instalment as 50% of a deal has to be paid the other 50% over the next two years .. Godden was 450,000 , Mitchell was 350,000 that come from Millwall

Fucking hell 4 seasons in 74 years in the third tier of wankness Currently in our 11th season of the last 16 in this division we’ve been relegated in to third tier 6 times the longest being 3 seasons to get out until now and we’re in season 5 of this current shameful run be patient, fcuk off it’s always the next window and a load of shit arrives and we tug away about how great we’ll be and it’s another year of failure all at the same time as the two local rivals are having their best ever footballing periods of longevity promotion is what’s needed anything else is failure and finishing 3rd and not going up would be a step forward but will count for nothing the season after when we all start again on 0 points
Leave off oohaah, we’re 4 unbeaten having won 3 of them. Everything is great again and we just need one or two more this window and we’ll have enough for the top 6

I find it quite worrying that the top 6 becomes the target rather than the top 2. Positions 3 to 6 mean you enter a lottery with three other clubs that will be well up for a shot at promotion. Positions 3 to 6 are the fallback if you are a bit unlucky or two other clubs get on a good run. Top 6 is not the target. This year's target seems to be 6th place, which, in theory, means we are the weakest of the four playoff teams. However, even 3rd is not good enough. There are plenty of examples where the third club has been head and shoulders above those below them all season, but they don't achieve promotion. Let's aim for the top 2 next year, not 6th.

Top 2 has already gone mate the period of hoofball put paid to any hope of that. Fortunately we are somehow still in with a chance of playoffs which personally I would take after our terrible run

So that’s why it’s still ‘undisclosed’ for all our dealings then, because despite the so called foundations being improved in the background we are still paying over the top for signings and being exploited by every other club 😉🙂
Against my better judgement I've clicked twice on Football League World articles on the web referencing us.
It's quite obvious that they literally come on here and the other site and just post up some shit based on what they read here.
Pete O'Rourke, (and Alan Nixon) we see you here. Now do some real work or piss off. And if you think what I write is unfair, ore even defamatory, sign up, contact me by DM and let's discuss it.
O’Rourke is usually fairly reliable.
He has run Lloyd Jones to Wycombe and Clucas to us, but in neither case does he cite a source, or even indicate he’s got one. Thats what makes it trash journalism. . He even inserted a rider about Wycomebe maybe losing a centre-back - after that had been mentioned here. I daresay he gets some things right. But the business model of that thing he works for now, is clicks clicks clicks. He has to write “stuff” like almost every hour at this time of the season, just to earn a dime. So what if it unsettles fans, players, managers. He’s not the only one and Nixon is worse, but all this grifting off football pisses me off.

If a journalist said "X person told me about this transfer" they'd burn that source completely. Rumours of Swansea coming in for Joe Low and Wycombe wanting Jones as a replacement were knocking around for a while before they reached here

Why is it quite obvious they come on our forums? Highly doubt Pete uses this forum, Nixon maybe. I sometimes think we forget this forum has a fairly small reach of the fanbase and one or two fans of a handful of other clubs.
I've always found Pete O'Rourke and FootballInsider a tier above the likes of Nixon. Obviously not the level of a local journo like Rich but pretty solid for someone that covers the whole EFL.
