The big weakness was midfield. Wrexham pased through thecmidfieldcas we had no midfield. They could not win a table. Nor can they hold onto the ball or try to run past acplayer with the ball at feet. The passing was mostly side ways or backwards. I spoke to some neurltral fans and they felt our players were in a panic with ball at there feet and just wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible.
I felt that was not a bad assessment. No wonder we have a tendency to by pass the misfield.
Time for Nathan Jones to abandon his worn-out Luton Top Trumps deck and build a team of younger and hungrier players. How is Danny Hylton getting onto the pitch ahead of Thierry Small? Embarassing business.
As a guess, it’s because Hilton is a forward and small a defender. We was am chasing the game and needed an attacker
once chucks and Kanu are fit, we will not see him again
Don't you mean if Chuks gets fit again. And pointless relying on him anyway when sadly he goes missing for weeks time after time.
And this is part of the problem. We might have started the season with 5 strikers (Aneke, Leaburn, Kanu, Godden & Ahadme) but 1 just can't start a game even when "fit" and another was not match fit at the start 8f the season & hadn't been part of a full pre-season.
So we started the season playing TC up front & to date he has yet to score, thus putting pressure on the other strikers.
And the cherry on the icing on the top of the cake.......we sold last season's top goalscorer. Not just OUR top goalscorer last season but the LEAGUE'S top goalscorer. And replaced him with someone not as half as good.
We're just a very average L1 side yet again. We waste money on poor transfers year after year and gradually just get worse off after every transfer window
Only player today that looked like they could do anything was TC. We constantly looked for him and they surrounded him most of the game. The challenge at the end was as Jones said, a disgrace and there needs to be a law change that those ones are a red card.
We didn’t deserve to lose but didn’t deserve to win. Overall, there is a lot in this team that is missing and today, leadership, movement, inventiveness, and quality are some of those missing parts.
We really need the injured players to come back soon because we miss them. Ramsay is a long term one but the rest, we really need otherwise these results and performances will keep happening and we will lose the touching distance we currently have.
My concern now is though, we keep conceding the first goal. 8 in our last 10 games we have conceded first, picking up just 4 points when we do concede first. Shows how important that goal is but also how we don’t have the quality to be scoring many against any opposition. We’ve scored more than 1 goal in a game just 4 times this season, picking up 5 points from them. 3 of those 4 games we have scored in the 94th, 93rd and 96th minute, so really the only one we have scored more than once in a game before 90 minutes is Bolton.
This is League One, let’s not get this twisted, it’s poor and it really has to improve now if we are going to push for the top 6.
Story of pretty much every game this season.
We drag opponents into turgid football where luck determines the winner more than skill. Can't go up playing with those odds.
Glad this freak show is over, yes it was nice to see a good crowd miss dobbo wrexham fans were good we are very average hope our better players get well soon hope NJ gets backed in January & we’re still in touch with the top lot, far too busy in covered end concourse the end.
I'm glad we didn't lose! This place would've been in more of a meltdown than it is now! Yes, we weren't great, but I didn't think Wrexham were either! It was a defo penalty as well. We are missing our two best defenders in the squad, Jones & Ramsey, and last season we would've lost that game and the one against Stockport. Now we have fight and determination, summed up by Mitchell at the end giving it large to Mclean! Yes, we're nowhere near the finished article, we've also got our super-sub cheat code, Chuks out as well! We're 3 points off the playoffs, we've got excellent players to come back and, hopefully, the board will back NJ in January, with a playmaker in midfield! Finally I'm looking forward to seeing Dixon when he's fully up to speed, he could be a game changer! I'm nowwhere near as down as some and still bloody hopeful that this will click!
Fair result. Somewhat toothless in front of goal despite all those chances. Andersons huff and puff absence stopped us competing in midfield. Docherty should not be captain. Tyreece is a must start. Has got a lot stronger. Taylor is what we have missed apart from his defensive skills which he needs to work on. Missed Jones and Ramsey. Didnot think that Wrexham looked as good as Birmingham. Gillespeys goal was very good. Still bits missing from what could be a good side. Think we wasted quite a few games with ahadme in it. Work in progress. Loved seeing the valley full.
It is shocking that TC is our best attacking player but still not a patch on CBT in terms of goals and assists. We have gone a long way backwards in attacking with CBT and May going. No sign of how that can change at present.
Charlton tried hard and showed character but made more mistakes than Wrexham and got punished eventually. However Charlton didn't lay down and twice fought their way back to level terms.
In terms of statistics I only concern myself with goals Charlton score versus those they concede usually. I know little of XG and other statistics sometimes referred to on here. However, from my vantage point in Covered End Upper, today I observed 5 pigeons for most of the second half either in the 18 yard box or level with it just outside it on the wings (no pun intended). That demonstrated to me a distinct lack of meaningful attacking from Charlton during that half. If that is reflective of the rest of the season to date then no wonder we are only 11th.
COYR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The pigeons got a mention on the match thread especially when they were switched to the opposite side to keep out of TC's way.
They were generally untroubled on the Curbs wing as most of our play came down the left.
A fair result, but the difference is that they looked like a well drilled side full of confidence, playing to their maximum potential, whereas we looked like a side missing players, still struggling to find the right system.

find these comments interesting as it suggests our side with clear space for improvement can scrape a draw against well drilled sides. the obvious extrapolation here is that if we can become better drilled we should be better than a side challenging for top 2
Really don’t think we are that far away… people losing trust in Nathan Jones perplexes me.
On another day we find the winner against Stockport and on another night we hold on to win against Barnsley.
Really small margins that would’ve changed October’s points tally from 6 to 10. Despite that, we’re still in touching distance of our ultimate end of season goals while carrying a few key injuries in the defence and not being able to secure a clear no. 1 keeper in the summer window.
There is still work to be done and I didn’t expect everything to be magically fixed in one window after three (four?) seasons of disappointment.
All I read from that is if,if,if.
Maybe if we had scored first against Stockport & Barnsley........or, God forbid, actually score twice without reply, we would be sitting with a much better points tally.
The reasons why we aren't winning games is mainly down to our lack of goals. Especially in the first half of games where you can wrestle control by scoring first & then dominate the game.
Can't remember a game where we've gone in at HT 2-0 up. Maybe not even yet under Nathan. But then again he is the king of draws. I think his managerial record with us is something like 50% drawn
Surprised Allan Campbell is getting dug out, actually thought he was pretty good when he came on
Allan Campbell is useless and he knows it. Never mind the bad passing - giving Wrexham the throw-in for the second goal. Look at his running and press from the throw-in! He isnt making up a single yard, and we are outnumbered as a direct result.
Then look at Barnsleys first goal on Tuesday: Terry Taylor seems to be sure Campbell is in position to press Humphreys before the shot is coming in. What does Campbell do? He stays wrong-footed and drift further away from the press. Again leaving others to cover.
I dont know what he is supposed to contribute and am really baffelled by NJ`s judgement on this player. He has been terrible - then had a decent game against Birmingham - and then terrible again, every single time.

Bit unfair on TC there. Difference in age and experience. TC must be 3-5 years younger than CBT was during his decent patch with us.
I'm confident it's coming with TC, he's improved a lot since last season and yesterday was getting in to some brilliant positions, and a goal or assist would have happened if not for Wrexham doubling up on him and our forwards not doing better with his set ups.
Not all sides will put two players on TC and if sides keep cynically taking him out like Wrexham did, then we will start winning more free kicks and penalties.
Thought Dobson looked good second half, picked up every second ball and turned them into attack multiple times. Mad what options in front of you can do to a midfielder.
He seemed far more disciplined for them. No (sometimes desperate) marauding forward runs.
Said it was their best away performance of season and they deserved the win.
Wish I'd joined in booing him now.
Honestly, not convincing yesterday, but in the cold light of day I think I actually feel a bit better about it rather than worse. There was some pretty poor football on display there though, no argument about that.
For the most part, the people we have who are fast, are a bit lacking in skill and/or nous. Those who have a bit of skill, are old and slow. It's not a good combination. Passing was terrible at points yesterday, but we were more or less holding it together until those subs about 70 minutes? Then everything seemed to go to shit, couldn't keep the ball at all.
The aggression of the start of the season is gone which is a shame. No one seems to want to take opposition players on when we're in possession any more. At times yesterday there was acres of space for someone to push through on a run but we just incessantly push it backwards or sideways to no benefit. I get you don't want to open yourself up to a counter too easily, but the price for that is never creating anything.
When we did get near the box, too much time spent pinging it around looking for an easy shot to open up, and this seems to happen a lot. Eventually of course they're all over us and its all for nothing. Just take a bloody shot. Even if it pings the bar or goes over it's putting some pressure on.
But as I said, in the cold light of day, Wrexham weren't any great shakes either, maybe marginally better than us most of the game, and I think we just about deserved a point out of it.
Also a lesson in why you shouldn't leave at 85 minutes, serves you right if you did that😜
Got to give credit to Wrexham fans though. They made a crap ton of noise. The fact we had a nearly full stadium and couldn't even seem to muster half the noise we made for the Birmingham game was a real shame. Crowd really was that full of TV fans huh? Oh well. At least they gave their money to us instead of "their club" 😆
Oh and for all the grief, there seemed to be plenty of people wearing brand new .... you know what. Thanks for the money Ryan and Rob 😆
Special day for me as my son got to walk out with his favourite player (Godden) as mascot, couldn’t have picked a better game.
Big thanks to Bill who works at the club some of you may know him as he’s been there for 30 years, very warm to the kids and us parents and gave us an all round great experience.
Wrexham have the best away fans I’ve seen for a while despite all the talk of day trippers. They sang for most of the game and I can’t get “we always win away” out my head. I’m truly jealous of them if I’m honest, the journey they’re on must be phenomenal for the fans who have been there from the bad days.
They were a proper team, they look well drilled and have some real handfuls up top, they will clearly be in the running for promotion. Us on the other hand will not be, I think we’re better than the last three season but only just, if things go well for us I can see an 8th place finish, if they don’t, 12th maybe. It is what it is.
One of the problems yesterday was Watson getting injured after 90 seconds.
i appreciate Watson isn’t Ramsay but REG isn’t Watson. Watson does push up high at times and gets to the line or in the box but REG doesn’t. Get forward

It doesn’t help that Edwards doesn’t get forward on the other side. I like Edwards defensively, but doesn’t offer much going forward. Full back aren’t contributing for assists, we then become more reliant on the midfield and strikers who are not naturally that creative.
Mannion is soooo ordinary we need a better keeper to get promoted
Going under the radar a bit, but we missed a trick not signing a top keeper. He's ok, but he's not much better than AMB, Isted etc. Protected by a better defense (especially when Jones was playing)
I’ve never rated him, when he came in, he wasn’t going to be No.1, for some reason they haven’t bothered to get another keeper in.

I don't feel quite as positive as Callum on this (NJ does seem to struggle to know the most effective formation, he has overseen some glaring errors in transfer business, there is insufficient emphasis on attacking and scoring)......BUT where I do agree is.........
He has been in charge for less than nine months and he has had only one transfer window to get things done. He needs and deserves more time to build on the positive improvements he has made so far. It sometimes feels like we are addicted to change, too ready to roll the dice again in the hope that somehow we will appoint an unknown or journeyman manager who will somehow magic up instant success at a club that's been a basket case for the past decade or more. It just isn't going to happen. We need to be patient, we need to build.

I think "haven't bothered" is a bit harsh. Every other week was a rumour about another new keeper. Yes we failed to get one and that is looking like a real problem but I don't think it's because anyone was thinking that Mannion was the answer all along.
