That was a dire performance on a number of fronts. We were a shambles at the back, almost invisible in midfield and largely powder puff in attack. Passes were misplaced, simple balls were mis-controlled, 50/50s were lost and opposition runners were not tracked, as we stumbled through the game and were second best in all areas.
We are one of the lowest scorers in a relatively poor division and Nathan Jones has, thus far, failed to inculcate anything approaching a cohesive style of play. The failure to recruit a creative player in midfield and Jones' apparent aversion to wingers has made us a pretty unattractive proposition. As well as scrapping and closing the opposition down (which we did not do tonight), we need to try playing some football.
We desperately missed Lloyd Jones and Kayne Ramsey at the back and, whilst Alex Mitchell's distribution continues to be poor, at least the bloke can defend. He was the only defender to turn in a performance and I really do not want to see Gillesphey in a Charlton shirt again (although I believe he has over 18 months left on his contract). The same goes for Allan Campbell, who is one of the slowest professional footballers I've ever seen.
Despite conceding so deep into injury time, a Charlton win would have been a travesty and this was a point which we most certainly did not deserve. Coming away with something is a plus, as was Berry's nicely taken brace and the fact that Miles Leaburn got 70 minutes under his belt. The rest of it was pretty depressing.
I fear our chances of getting out of this division are looking increasingly slim and I have real doubts as to whether Jones can turn things around.
We were 5th until Barnsley equalised. Reading thoughts on here you'd think we were back in depths of last winter under the stranglehold of Michael Appleton.
Play-offs at a big stretch, prob mid table finish.
I think we are all beginning to realise that . Our only hope is come January we aren’t too many points off the play off positions and the owners will dig deep to bring in some quality to the squad .
It's quite simple. We talk about standards but not enough of these players are competent enough to hit those standards consistently resulting in mixed results which in turn results in a middling season.
Out of that starting 11 only Alex Mitchell and Matty Godden can be reasonably pleased with themselves
I just can't get over how bad Gillesphey is. I generally try to defend where possible because I'm a positive person but I can't see a single redeeming quality about his play. Even his long throw is mediocre.

I’m very negative as a rule and feel very negative after that and have made a negative post.
To balance that out I’m gonna say one positive thing - I will probably curse it, but I think Mannion has been excellent all season. Made several great saves today, commands his box well and claims crosses well. Best goalie we’ve had in a while.
seems distinctively average to me, standard l1 keeper for a standard l1 team, gets beaten from distance too often and should of done better for the first goal today

Mitchell had a shocker today
Most aerial duels won for us today, got a block in, 9 tackles, 5 headed clearances. Did his job. Problem is he had to cover for Gillesphey's job too

I thought Mitchell's distribution was terrible and Godden didn't have too much to be pleased about IMO. Mitchell defends well though to be fair.
I thought Mitchell’s distribution was really good all game
6th biggest budget in the league, you wouldn’t think it. The summer recruitment has been largely a flop, a very lopsided squad made worse with NJ’s erratic team selection, and if you decide to sell the leagues best striker make sure the replacement has potential, and not Ahadme who looks like he’s never played football before. Good grief, there’s got to be something rotten at the club if they think he’s the future. Just praying he stays injured.
That's the worry for me. Jones had full control this summer and he's assembled such a unbalanced squad. Can't even tell what system he would want to play if everyone was fit.
We aren’t in an injury crisis. Okay jones has missed the last 2 matches and Ramsay got injured on Saturday, but it is very rare to have ever present players , almost everyone misses several games a season. The majority of the squad is fit and available and those 2 were both fit and played in all 3 of the dire consecutive defeats. So he really had no excuse.
It feels exactly like most previous seasons, he’s chucked together a load of random players with very little strategy or meaningful system (other than defend and hope the oppo gift us the odd goal).
Chuks, Ahadme, Kanu all injured too. Potts nowhere to be seen, maybe injured?
As I said earlier, Ahadme being injured has only improved the team.

79% pass completion. Whether he made the right passes is a different question but he hit his target very often

Brum apart, it's been a grim season so far. We need Ramsey and Jones back asp + Chucks as super sub. Mannion did make some great saves tonight. Berry took his chances brilliantly. TC and Small made a difference when they came on. Will Dobbo chew up our midfield on Saturday?
Crap bunch of players being told to play a really horrible style of football, is it even a style. The team is awful and even if we had won that it's not going to get any better this is us for the season under the welsh wizaard. Horrible football, horrible tactics, horrible players. It's exactly the same as last season when we was playing to stay up, cancel out the other team and hope to nick a lucky goal.
Going to say it again how he came in to the season with no wingers and no attacking midfielders is just mental. He finally plays 2 proper strikers but no fucker is there to feed them. He then takes the striker off for a winger ffs.
How he played Alan Campbell for 90 minutes is just beyond me, what the fuck was he watching he was proper shit and out of puff after 50 minutes. We are going no where this season and Jones is to blame, Selling May and bringing in all his Luton mates and other crap he managed before has killed us.
No one has mentioned the ref to date which makes a pleasant change. Thought he was very good tonight, can’t remember him getting much wrong and wasn’t overly fussy.
We were awful. There was a 5 minute period in the 2nd half when it was 1-0 , Barnsley could have scored 3 goals. We never really looked like scoring. We deserved nothing from the game.
I would have taken a point at the start so can't complain. But I fucking can because we were 2-1 with 90 seconds to play !!
Looking at the table we are still in touch (along with half the league) with the top 6. But then again we are miles off a top 6 side. Start of the season we were rock solid at the back......now we look like shipping in 3 or 4 every game. Probably because we are missing Lloyd Jones but guess what, when he's back you know he will be as bad as all the rest.
Shame all our strikers seem to get injured all at once. Missing 3 tonight (although Ahadme is no great miss) but at least having options on the bench means......we have options on the bench.
I thought the game changed when we brought on TC & Berry.......just as I said it would. Sorry I got it wrong re Godden & Leaburn starting but it still stands... .if we score first we generally don't lose. If we concede first we hardly ever win. But even little ole me thought we had done a namesake at the 93 minute mark.
Lastly.......
Lots of people at the start of the season said "give it 10 or 12 games and then judge" after a few of us had doubts at the start of August. Well, the jury is back in the room and the foreman has said
" not this season son. Be happy with top half but play offs......you're having a bubble".
Just got home a few mins ago, proper crap performance, don't think any player particularly played well, maybe give Berry a bump for the brace.
Away stand actually felt fairly full and we made some decent noise. Really like their ground.
We didn't deserve a point, so the draw is decent in all honesty. Just a travesty that it happened in that fashion.
Funny how it works though, if it ended 1-1 I would been happy, if we were the team that went down 2-1 and came back 2-2, I'd have creamed my pants, but because we dropped points, I wanted to drive my car right into Oakwell Stadium.
Ah well, still plenty of play for, long old season. We are really gonna miss Ramsay and Jones, huge difference without them both.
The missing piece in our jigsaw is an attacking midfielder, like Barnsleys no44, humpries. Until we can get someone that can effectively link the midfield with the front line, we'll continue to struggle.

That is all.
Edit: was wrong, it was about Aneke not Ramsay
