It's quite simple. We talk about standards but not enough of these players are competent enough to hit those standards consistently resulting in mixed results which in turn results in a middling season.
Out of that starting 11 only Alex Mitchell and Matty Godden can be reasonably pleased with themselves
I thought Mitchell's distribution was terrible and Godden didn't have too much to be pleased about IMO. Mitchell defends well though to be fair.
I'm kind of clinging but basically I thought they were the least shit. Plenty of effort from both and didn't do much wrong. The rest of them all over the place
Why does he play Allan Campbell?? He offers fewer challenges than Johnny Williams and contributes zilch! Thought NJ made the wrong call to keep this guy on, and pick him ahead of Doherty or Berry.
I know Doherty hasn’t been great but it does make you wonder what he has done to upset Jones that he can’t get picked ahead of Allan Campbell.
We were 5th until Barnsley equalised. Reading thoughts on here you'd think we were back in depths of last winter under the stranglehold of Michael Appleton.
I’m very negative as a rule and feel very negative after that and have made a negative post.
To balance that out I’m gonna say one positive thing - I will probably curse it, but I think Mannion has been excellent all season. Made several great saves today, commands his box well and claims crosses well. Best goalie we’ve had in a while.
It was horrible tonight. A.Campbell really annoys me. Repeating myself but lazy slow and useless. Berry so much better and 2 lovely goals. We miss Jones and Ramsay so much.

At fault for the goal though and watch his reaction after, lays prone with his head to the floor, he knows he made an error, he will learn.
It was really poor but before the game I probably would've taken a draw to be honest. The performance is the issue for me today, particularly first half. We're really missing Lloyd Jones. I generally like the 4box2 but we don't have CB's matched to a back 4 really apart from Jones. Z Mitchell deserves a shot on Saturday.
Was waiting to see what Jones had to say before going to bed. Happier after listening to him as he called the game right and looked livid. I don't think the standards from any players apart from Small, Berry and TC were acceptable. And at least it seems, nor does Jones. To solve a problem you have to accept there is a problem.

seen much worse goalkeeping errors, and the saves he did make far outweighed that IMO, we let them get a lot of meaningful shots off at him
So difficult to watch that team. So many players are simply not good enough. Gillesphey, REG, Allan Campbell & Karoy all starting is a problem. That was as bad as the Bristol Rovers game.
I’d just praised Mannion for his tip-over save, when he spills a ball at the feet of Keillor-Dunn. He’s been caught out too many times & doesn’t inspire me with confidence. Alex Mitchell looks decent with Lloyd Jones next to him, but slow & ponderous when stuck with Gillesphey.
Jones and Scott have a lot to answer for with the squad they’ve assembled. Our club captain has been dropped again, surely even more damning when his deputy is also sidelined.
As a mate said tonight, that just about sums this league up. Hard fought (and an ugly one) point, which could easily have been none or three!!
I'll say it. Small to me is a better bet than Edwards. He made a big difference when he came on. In fact the three players who made a difference, Small, Campbell and Berry we couldn't give player marks to. The rest have to take a look at themselves. They have shown at home that they can pass the ball, they can tackle, they can out work teams so why are they so tepid away?
Sorry I don’t participate in the player marks malarkey but why are you not allowed to give those three players a score? Seems a bit bizarre. Come on in 85th minute, score a hat trick, zero points. Weird.
Got to say there are a lot of people on here who certainly didn't predict us getting anything at Oakwell but now declaring we are shit, a few notable exceptions in HastingsRed and Golfie who predicted that if Leaburn plays we win. A few things people are forgetting, I think Barnsley are a decent side so getting a point there is no disgrace, 'the one win in six' stat should be matched 'haven't been beaten in three' ' Against sides in the top half' stat but it isn't but you can also throw in 'we are missing our best two defender's in Ramsay and Jones' or how about ' Playing Leaburn was a gamble but we missing Kanu, Chuks and Ahadme. One last one though, we all called for Taylor to play alongside Coventry, did it work ? I'm not sure it did, Coventry started to run the game after Taylor went off. Have a look at the whole picture not just the fact we didn't manage to get over the line in the last couple of mins.
PWR. I'll read tomorrow. Just thought I'd say that I watched for once. I couldn't believe how shit we are. We can't defend, don't challenge hard enough, can't control the ball properly, can't pass very well. Until we scored I didn't even know if we can shoot. However Barnsley weren't much better. The atmosphere was crap too. They didn't sing anything until about half way through the second half. It was so dull that when T Campbell came on my body registered a sense of shock that I got excited for a minute. It was like giving a wine gum to someone who hasn't tasted anything sweet for a few days.
All three were pony today and it has to stop. Either drop them after this many consistently bad games or bench them as a minimum.
Two great goals from Berry saved our blushes as Barnsley were all over us towards the end. After we got our second I just knew in my gut we'd concede again.
Anderson for Watson was a weird sub, but NJ does what he wants. When will we get a decent manager that's not afraid to rotate players out of form?

Would say it's actually a fairly measured thread considering the quality of performance and way it ended.

Agree it was poor but without A Campbell being a pain for the defence we don't get the first goal and the change of shape brought by the half time sub gave us more control than in the first half
6th biggest budget in the league, you wouldn’t think it. The summer recruitment has been largely a flop, a very lopsided squad made worse with NJ’s erratic team selection, and if you decide to sell the leagues best striker make sure the replacement has potential, and not Ahadme who looks like he’s never played football before. Good grief, there’s got to be something rotten at the club if they think he’s the future. Just praying he stays injured.
That's the worry for me. Jones had full control this summer and he's assembled such a unbalanced squad. Can't even tell what system he would want to play if everyone was fit.
We aren’t in an injury crisis. Okay jones has missed the last 2 matches and Ramsay got injured on Saturday, but it is very rare to have ever present players , almost everyone misses several games a season. The majority of the squad is fit and available and those 2 were both fit and played in all 3 of the dire consecutive defeats. So he really had no excuse.
It feels exactly like most previous seasons, he’s chucked together a load of random players with very little strategy or meaningful system (other than defend and hope the oppo gift us the odd goal).
Chuks, Ahadme, Kanu all injured too. Potts nowhere to be seen, maybe injured?

Jones - defend, be organised, aggressive, hope one of your decent footballers has a good moment and wins the game.
Appleton - try to pass and play decent football, hope your hard workers and athletes keep you in it defensively to win the game.
The Jones way will get more positive results and he’s clearly a much better manager, but a more balanced approach would give me more to believe in.
I’m glad we’ve tried to continue with the box midfield and understand why we switched it at half time, but protecting two holding midfielders with two runners in front of them sums up what Jones prioritises.
I get why as competing physically is the bare minimum that we didn’t see under Appleton, but there’s always the argument that if you keep the ball better, create and score more (and earlier) your team won’t be under as much pressure defensively and you don’t have to win as many headers, the main issue he’s spoken about tonight (and on another day swap headers for tackles, interceptions etc).

Team sat (with current injuries) has to be:
Mannion
Watson Mitchell Reg small
Taylor Coventry
Docherty
Berry
T.Campbell Leaburn
Not 5th but 11th as we couldn't do the basics at the business end of the match.
2-2 between two average sides.
Most of them were 4/10 or maybe 5.
mg a liability
where is Potts?
Just thought I'd say that I watched for once.
