All this talk of Americans flocking to the game to see the Canadian superstar Ryan Reynolds 😂
And this is the laugh of it all.  The increase is f*** all to do with the football.

    Correct, now closed.
  • Charlton Athletic announced today that sales for tomorrow's home match against Wrexham are already at 23,200 and are expected to exceed 24,000 by kick-off.

This would constitute the club's largest home full paying attendance since the play-off semi-final in 2019, and the highest such Charlton regular season home gate of the last decade. Wrexham have sold 2,500 of their 3,100 allocation, meaning that upwards of 22,000 spectators will be in The Valley's home ends.

West Stand Lower has sold out and there are only 200 seats remaining in the Covered End, so the club has now made the last remaining blocks in the Alan Curbishley Stand and West Stand Upper available. Those tickets will still be available on the day, from Charlton's Ticket Office in the West Stand.

Over 4,000 of the crowd will be first-time visitors from the South East London and Kent area, together with 1,000 visitors from foreign countries.

Charlton CEO Charlie Methven said: "We are delighted with the attendance and looking forward to seeing what a packed-out Valley delivers in terms of atmosphere. The intention of our 'Welcome to London' campaign was precisely to encourage new local audiences to come and sample what Charlton has to offer, so it's gratifying for our marketing team to see so many local first-time attendees. It's important to note, though, that the sheer number of 'first-timers' will bring with it a few operational challenges. We would encourage all fans to arrive as early as possible."

Paragraph four I'd say is complete b*******!  Where do they get this info from?

Who or what are Deadpool and Wolverine? Serious question.
Another one who lives under a rock . I don’t for one minute believe you’ve never heard of these.
Maybe there are more than you think...don't assume everyone is as genned up as you appear to be...
There is absolutely nobody in this country who hasn’t heard of Deadpool or Wolverine or at least one of them ,  even if they aren’t into films . That’s unless they’ve been in a coma .

How self opinionated can you get...

You could argue, fan base out of touch with club too. Reading half these posts youd think we are a double hard pwopper nawty unit of a team with militant fans.

... rather than the family friendly, award winning community club who people aspired to be for a decade or 2.

Unfortunately for some, B mob and the 80s were over a long time ago.
    What a weird poster.

Ah so when you said have a good day and I said the same, you were just refusing to engage in a adult conversation because you cant and have resulted in being passive aggressive ?

All of this over half n half scarfs lol

I do wonder, if we had 16k at this game, if the same people complaining now, would be complaining the club had missed a trick to get big crowd in?  club weren't imaginative with marketing and didn't try to appeal to a new fanbase etc..

maybe it would be different people moaning ? anyway here's hoping for a barnsto4ming charlton performance making us the Hollywood stars and getting alot of those ppl wanting to come back and watch charlton.
    Of course they would
  • Turn it in were gonna have a nice crowd for once when our depleted squad will be up against it. If it gives them the minutest of lifts it'll be worth it

Well I have never heard of them, but assumed because I'm an out of touch old fogey and it was a young person thing.
I only know Deadpool as an old Clint Eastwood film. Wolverine I thought was one of those old characters from Gladiators

About as much as you can be judgmental...   That makes both of us opinionated and i still stick by my original statement.

An argument is always lost when people resort to swearing.

I'll not bite and resort to this, all very unnecessary and strange.

So despite several people saying that they have never heard of them, you stick by your statement that you don't believe there are people that have never heard of them....nice one.
  • Having reflected on the various opinions and concerns I have concluded that the team isn’t playing very well currently. That’s the only explanation for this negativity.

We are far too friendly and welcoming as a football club.  Borders on submissive.  Is part of the problem that's seen us get turned over year after year.

A welcoming place for all visitors including away teams.  Nonsense that does us absolutely no favours and probably helps the oppo.

I am pleased for Wrexham having watching the doc and think good for them as a working class town as the club has really given them as sense of identity and pride....but when it comes to matchday fuck them.

Rolling out the carpet as if it's a long lost relative, jesus wept.
It's naff and is a stupid gimmick, but can you give other examples of us being too nice and how that affects us winning games. Massive overreaction.
Moving season ticket holders for Bournemouths promotion party
Letting Millwall fans leave & locking in the home fans.
Yes, but that will have been the police. No club ever goes against what they want.
Is that the only occasion that it has occurred in all of the football league games?

Charlton fans: Our supporters are rubbish, never show up anymore

Also Charlton fans: Look at all these plastics, I prefer it when it's just the hardcore

The club literally can't win in some people's eyes. Some people like to be unhappy
Are they our supporters though? I'd like to know what regulars have heard from friends or family or those with an affilation to charlton of their genuine interest in coming for this specific game? Seems to me like the majority of this 10k extra crowd will be there for some disney franchised nonsense of a football club. If any of them lifted there head up from there tv and looked at a map they would see there's dozens of clubs in London all going through the same roller coaster of emotions that come with following a local football club. A huge difference to when we packed the valley out for doncaster in the play offs, with everyone knowing the importance and magnitude of the occasion and what it meant to the club and its genuine fans
Does it matter if 500-1000 of them love the experience and come back?

You're allowed to come and watch Charlton without having a previous affiliation with the club.

I really don't understand this "where were you when" attitude some people have. We have to build new fanbases out of new generations and this is the modern way.

Or we could just stick with the same core of 10-12k for the rest of time.

Will you complain too if we go up and our crowds improve then?
I wholehearedly agree with your general point, but surely the "where were you when" chant is banter aimed at the opposition fans rather than any put-down of our own fans or club recruitment efforts?
Yea I'm more poking at the people who don't like new fans at away games. I seem to remember quite a few complaining about the new comers at the Reading away game and that they'd rather it was just 500 'hardcore'. Which I happen to think is pathetic.

Some people have got so used to us being shite and having a small following, that they're scared of their identity being diluted if we do grow in numbers
Hardcore of 500 bloody hell it was once two coaches and a few on the train total max 200.

Anyway the extra fans tomorrow wouldn’t have thought it’s Charltons fans returning ,more of something organized by some internet party.

Trust Everyone enjoys the day , the question is can Jones pick a team to deal with the situation. We need 11 players to play as one and give commitment all round to one another.
If that doesn’t happen expect a result similar to that league cup game we played in 68/69
  • I wonder what explanation will be given when our next league game is 10k short of tomorrow.
