MATCH THREAD : Charlton Athletic V Birmingham City : Saturday 5th October 2024 : KO 15:00

So, today we "welcome" Birmingham City to The Valley for what has already been billed as a David V Goliath match, although, it is still 11v11 in the end, so until 5pm today we are in with as much chance as we would ever be of getting something, yes dare I say even a win out of the game...

We've met on 66 previous occasions winning 23, Birmingham winning 22 and the remaining 21 fixtures ending in draws, Birmingham’s last trip to The Valley came just two months ago and saw the visitors prevail in the Carabao Cup first round.

Following their opening-day draw with Reading, Birmingham have won seven league fixtures on the spin to leave them five points clear at the top of  League One...

Bit early with todays thread, as currently on my way to witness todays encounter, win, lose, or draw, let's hope we see a spirited and gutsy performance today...

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, A.Mitchell, Jones, Edwards; Coventry, Docherty (c), Anderson, A.Campbell; Kanu, Godden

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Edmonds-Green, Small, Berry, T.Campbell, Leaburn, Aneke

  • I said before, the only result that doesn't advance or challenge any narrative is a narrow, battling defeat, so of course that's what's going to happen
  • From the fans bar that looks like Ramsey on the pitch in a tracksuit so I’d assume not playing - might not be him, but I think it is?
  • A few beers at London Bridge and now in the Fans Bar waiting for the rest of the crew to arrive. Pessimism after the Gas defeat dissipating, so feeling like an upset on the cards? COYR

Always possible of course, but be surprised if Ramsay isn't involved at all.

Actually looks like we're playing a diamond formation

  • He’s gone for a diamond!

Is that a diamond? Still not very attacking presuming the attacking midfielder is Campbell

Diamond midfield and a back four
  • 442 Diamond with Allan Campbell most advanced?
  • 4 at the back and 4 CMs in the middle of the park?

    Ahadme droppecompletely
  • Good old 4 4 2
  • Anderson?
  • Can't see why one of Aneke or Leaburn couldn't have started. Good to bring on though when we are 2-0 up to see out the game.

From a distance I think I saw TC out there which fits if he’s a sub
  • Best set up we’ve had for a while in my opinion. Might not mean much at 5pm but I’m happy with that

Got subbed off against Rovers, complaining about breathing problems so probably a precaution
