Same here, my Son will be eight on Sunday, his Charlton top was on his birthday list.
I’m struggling to keep him interested, all his friends are West Ham and Arsenal (we live in Essex). Will be at the next home match, but if things don’t improve I’ve lost him to Charlton. He was really upset this week.
A real pity as my parents, grand parents and great grandad attended Charlton matches (lived in Kinveachy Gardens and my Grandad’s ashes are in the memorial garden at The Valley).
It would be the end of our family line supporting Charlton.
I’m not is the Jones camp, never have been. Fully understand the ‘give them time’ comments, but anyone in Management who doesn’t listen and won’t adapt will fail. Jones doesn’t come across as someone who listens much, as was highlighted by plenty of Southampton and Stoke fans.
I read these comments and still laugh at Charlie Methvens comments about a young fans experience at games and how it's not entirely dependent on a result. Absolute nonsense.
I'm having the same issues with you two every week with my younger cousins. The older one, forget about it, he's told me he just can't be bothered and feels he can do better with his time at the weekends than go Charlton, the younger one will still go home games (as he has a season ticket) but has missed a few and has said no more away games until there are improvements as he also feels he has better things to do.
I think we are in a generation where with access to social media and all the entertainment at our hands, it's harder to convince young fans to watch, when they can do a lot more away from Charlton. Not to mention the societal pressure of supporting a good team.
These lot haven't got a clue and don't understand what's going on.
For some balance, my 9 and 12 year olds love going. We have been shit since they started coming 7 years ago so they really don't know much else. They both want to go to more away games too (tickets to Crawley already booked). They know we are not up to much but that isn't new for them.
For the £35 pa each cost of a junior member, they have both played on the pitch, both been mascots, both done Guard of honour and tours of the stadium and both realise their Chelsea/Arsenal supporting friends have, generally, never seen "their" clubs except on TV.
Jones....lost the dressing room. Knows it, and is now trying to engineer being sacked. If this is not the case, then he's madder than any of us realised!
The snipey arsey comments when we win a game and then the subsequent disappearance of the spikey cnutishness when it all goes back to shit make him look a complete bell . I love his enthusiasm but he’s just a dinosaur in football coaching terms . can the next shit manager arrive soon please
That closing line needs to be framed An absolute classic.
Jones....lost the dressing room. Knows it, and is now trying to engineer being sacked. If this is not the case, then he's madder than any of us realised!
If he's as excitable in the dressing room as in the dug out, you can expect sparks to have flown. My guess is that he's not Mr Popular and reflects on the pitch.
We have hardly had a chance.. just lumping it. It is a disgrace. And all down to Jones and the way the team is set up.

To be honest, how can you blame them for the style and the piss poor football.. Jones was the fans choice, he is the highest paid manager in Charlton’s history. He got backed in the summer, he got what he wanted..

We need outside the box appointment, and give them time.. Jones isn’t the answer for moving this club forward.

As CM was only delighted to tell us all when things were going well under Jones, he was the SMT choice before Appleton
The fans wanted Jones - SMT also wanted him, that is correct, but from what has happened since the appointment is on Jones, he has been given everything he wanted. Yes, he might have missed out on some targets, but that will always happen... Apart from Dixon signing, every single signing has been 100% his choice. I was told when we appointed Jones, he is our most expensive appointment, if that is salary, clauses, bonus or whatever it is, he is getting paid a fortune at Charlton.
There are certain fans, whatever this ownership does, will always be anti them... But from what I have seen, they have made a lot of positive moves around the club, and from the outset, they said they wouldn't just buy their way through the leagues!! Jones has let them down badly so far, and will continue to do so, unless he changes his stubborn ways..
I really want it to work for Jones, but his style of play is woeful.

The saddest part of your story is that these children both have better things to do with their time than me!

If winning and buzz around the valley, it would be different.. Pretty sure you can go to the park on Sunday morning, and see better football played.

Sunday mornings are reserved for dealing with the catastrophic hangover I need to endure after having to drink so much to make it through Charlton’s latest assault on the senses the afternoon prior.
Jones’s credibility as a coach is now hanging by a thread. Should he ultimately fail at Charlton, I’d struggle to see him getting a gig anywhere above league two and possibly not even that. He must be a worried man deep down but he’s too barking mad to change what he’s doing. I think he’ll start next season but I reckon we’ll be having this conversation in earnest this time next year.
Not a chance he'll be here next season imo. Lose at Lincoln and at home to Mansfield and he won't make Xmas.
This SMT are in too deep with him to sack him. Big old contract and in getting rid they show the actual owners they've failed AGAIN.
You could say that *not* getting rid would show the owners that they won’t act when they should act.
And there’ll be a dismissal clause in his contract. They won’t have to pay but the full 3 & 1/2 years.
We have hardly had a chance.. just lumping it. It is a disgrace. And all down to Jones and the way the team is set up.

Maybe certain fans, like yourself, could be slightly more sceptical when being fed spin by the SMT.
You've gone from "highest ever paid manager" to "I was told he was our most expensive".
So more expenive in what way? How would they know? More expensive than Dowie? Or Curbs? Or even Adkins? I doubt it.
And yet again you try to blame the fans.
Yes many fans, me included wanted him or were pleased to have him but the fans didn't appoint him, didn't agree his salary, didn't sign off his transfer deals. Stop trying to deflect the blame on the fans. We had no vote, no say.
The SMT were all very happy to herald Jones as a great appointment
Now, they are leaking thru you and others that it isn't their fault, just as Holden mysteriously "changed over the summer" and Appleton was no longer "good on the grass.
The first team is failing and Jones has to take a large part of the responsibility for that.
But if the managers the SMT appoint keep failing then either their selection process is flawed or the structure and systems they manage within the club are flawed.
Or both.
And the US owners will, if they haven't already, see that and act.
Reading are an embodiment of how a progressive manager can work even when the club is in dire straits, although they've been bolstered by a superb academy. Sounds like Selles may now be off to Hull. I just don't understand how we get it so wrong every time. Not only are the results poor under Jones, the football on the pitch is so outrageously dire, you sit there and ponder what the hell you're doing with your life travelling to watch it. I live and breathe this club like many. I never thought I'd be in a position like I am tomorrow where I'm out so can't catch the game and genuinely am not at all fussed. I can't see myself getting a season ticket next year for the first time since I was able to go to games, and that's saying something because the last decade hasn't particularly been pretty.

Lowest league finish in our history. Constant poor football decisions. Empty stadium. They've done sweet FA.

I read these comments and still laugh at Charlie Methvens comments about a young fans experience at games and how it's not entirely dependent on a result. Absolute nonsense.
I also recall Methven saying Charlton's brand isn't being a family club, it's actually street football, tricky, skillful and exciting - like the football played in cages around SE London.
That idea becomes more ludicrous with every aimless hoof forward.
Tricky skillful cage football? I think not. Charlton's brand of football is more like a game of blow-football* where two bored kids are trying to out puff each other. The ball keeps rolling off the table and has now disappeared behind the settee leading to a big argument, a fit of the sulks, and both players being sent to bed early.
Decision has to be made now one way or another. If there is a possibility in their minds he could be sacked this season based on results, he must be sacked immediately. There would be nothing worse than once again giving a manager what they want in the transfer window and then bringing in someone else who doesn't want those players. If they are seriously going to stick with Jones, they need to commit to not sacking him this season at all and give him what he needs in January. I'd be very worried about that prospect based on what he did over summer, but we can't half arse it here.

Many thanks for responding.
Glad you see Jones was wanted by both supporters and the SMT. Sometimes the most logical appointments just done work. Pardew was exactly the same back in 2007.
However no supporters would have wanted either Holden or Appleton. That is totally on the SMT.
No idea who these fans who are anti the SMT, but IMO they are irrelevant as they must be small in number and doing nothing to disrupt the club so no idea what relevance this is.
Could you also point out the positive moves the SMT have made?
Jones....lost the dressing room. Knows it, and is now trying to engineer being sacked. If this is not the case, then he's madder than any of us realised!
You may be right, he may have lost the dressing room or it may be a wider issue............. or maybe I'm reading too much into something Matty Godden said (from his interview I listened to on Charlton Live)......... I'm paraphrasing..... he said something to the effect that in his experience the feel good factor of everyone at the club pulling together is what it takes to get good, consistent performances on the pitch and I felt he was 'saying' that doesn't exist at Charlton right now. If that's so then it might be a rift between some of the players and the manager/coaching style or it may be the club is more fractured than that. Whichever way, my reading of what you think and what I think he meant is worrying.
But hope springs eternal in the dumb and I'm hoping for better things at Lincoln tomorrow.

I would be totally amazed if there wasnt some bad feeling in the dressing room. Regardless of anything else the squad is made up of professional footballers I doubt any of them actually want to go out and play hoofball ! Im sure most professional players prefer to play football especially when the hoofball tactics are clearly failing. Most of our signings in the Summer were midfielders I bet none of then envisaged that their time here would be spent watching the ball fly over their heads
Plus I can't imagine players like TC, Small etc are very happy when they see what obvious influence they could have on games if picked and a sensible formation used and a much better game plan.
I think unless something disastrous happens and we lose the next two or three that he'll get the rest of the season but if that happens and we finish mid table and performances don't improve and he's still he for next season then season ticket sales will plummet.
I'd like to call a truce on Nathan Jones and his role at CAFC. We need to support the team and management or at worse passively and respectfully accept our fate. I'm not joking.
I've posted a lot about the fact I wasn't keen on NJ from the start, and he seems very brittle and unable to take any comment that seems challenging. Decisions are bizarre (this could be the result of pressure of our indifferent position in the league and unattractive football)
The squad seems weirdly unbalanced and done on the cheap despite a massive budget. What really did he have to spend in the summer?
Steve Brown at Bromley Addicks said the owners seem to have the long term interests of the club at heart. He said we've had some bad owners but this current group appear better.
NJ has a 4 year contract.
Let's give NJ abit of space / slack and let him do his best.
Don't boo the team or NJ. It only makes them worse not better.
With only 4 points between us and the drop we need to get behind the team.
If you really dislike the performances- you don't have to watch. Do something else, save money and your mental health.
Maybe we have to ignore the hype (which NJ contributed to), ignore the first 3 wins (fools gold) and recognise that we are not very good and the team needs support to get over the line.

If you really dislike the performances- you don't have to watch. Do something else, save money and your mental health.
Maybe we have to ignore the hype (which NJ contributed to), ignore the first 3 wins (fools gold) and recognise that we are not very good and the team needs support to get over the line.
Hmmmmm
