This already has the feeling of such a key game. We’ll be looking to respond to the Reading result and also hope that we’re not the team Rotherham end their winless away run against. I’m thinking a tight affair but we’ll hopefully come out 3-1 winners. (A Campbell, T Campbell, Godden - Clarke Harris will give them 1-0 lead)
A loss and this place will need to be avoided for a good few days.
Rotherham won last week
That was at home though; mart was saying they've not won away, as think its something like 2-years now
I had a feeling last week could have gone either way and had the ref given us a pen it would have gone our way. He didn't. Tomorrow I have a gut feeling for us.
As my old man likes to say, we are the "doctors" of the league. Any side not won in months....play us & get your first win. Look at Swindon in our Championship title winning season. We'd won 13 on the bounce & Swindon were bottom. What happens.....they win without having a shot on target thanks to Dean Keiley.
Charlton Athletic are unbeaten across their last eight league games against Rotherham United (W4 D4), scoring at least once in every single game during that run.
Rotherham United have failed to win any of their last four away league games against Charlton Athletic (D3 L1), with three of those finishing 1-1.
Charlton Athletic are unbeaten across their last nine home league games (W4 D5), their longest unbeaten run at the Valley since a run of 20 matches between October 2018 and August 2019.
Rotherham United have lost each of their last 11 away league games, the longest such current run in the EFL. The Millers have also failed to score in their last eight away league games – their longest ever run in the EFL.
Warning for all those travelling up from Sussex, trains are a bit of a mess, loads of cancellations throughout the day due to engineering works around Earlswood.
As has already been said, I feel the first goal will be of vital importance today.
Have not got a clue how the game will go but expect to suffer a lot of frustration and irritation from the usual tactics served up by Steve Evans.
The recent past has seen us capitulate too easily to underperforming sides and their current away record scares me because of this. However, our "new" defence gives me more hope this time around and does give me some measure of optimism.
Last weeks result came as a bit of a shock with 2 goals conceded and none scored after the first three results.
I hope we can put in a solid performance today and at 5pm enjoy that extraordinary feeling following another win and another 3 points.
I am banking on Jones's Charlton being made of sterner stuff mentally than many we have seen in recent times. We know they will standup to the physical battle, but if this battle is won in the head I am confident we won't wilt. Jones and the team need to find a way to be more expansive and less one dimensional going forward. Will be a good test of where we are at after last week. Heart says 2-0, head says 0-0.
Very important game for both clubs who both want a win to make sure last week was or was not a one enough. I still worry about our creativity so the first goal will be crucial. Not sure this will go our way, 1-0 to Rotherham.
in Croatia - on holiday - so want to watch on sky sports+ - too far to get to the valley - does anyone know any good / safe and preferably free vpns I can use?
Using my personal method of aiming for automatic promotion, with the added feature that I don’t like the notion that we can catch up later, I prefer that we go for consistency through the season, I think as we stand we are 1 point ahead of target. The target is predicated on winning every home game and drawing every away game or the equivalent. So in order to stay the 1 point ahead of target I believe we must win against Rotherham. A draw is dropping two points and a defeat is dropping three. So I think we have to win against Rotherham to be staying the pace. A defeat against Rotherham and a win at Shrewsbury would get us back to a ‘cushion’ of the 1 point we have now. My prediction is that Nathan Jones won’t be settling for a draw and is likely to be mightily pissed off if we lose. He can however make up for things by winning at Shrewsbury, all is far from lost at the moment.
This would mean that we lose the cushion but stay on target. You need 4 points from two games and 1 win and 1 loss is only three. We therefore use our current cushion.

Looks like its the latter - I have noticed that Sky Sports+ has been showing Rugby as well though in recent weeks

Lump all your money on a Rotherham win.
0-2.

By the way, I was last week’s unnamed substitute.
“Charlton had indicated at senior level to Nathan (manager Jones) that they wanted to play it. Nathan was of the same mind.”
Whether we play today should be SOLELY down to Nathan Jones, the senior execs shouldn't even have a say in the decision.
