  • I had the misfortune to have an Anaphylactic shock incident at New Eltham.
While I was being cared for by an off duty A&E nurse and my wife was phoning 999, at least 2 people thought this would make a great social media post and proceeded to film the event.
Thankfully I have never seen a video showing the incident on any platform.

I collapsed in a departure lounge at Gatwick last year just prior to boarding the plane. I was lucky a couple of off duty paramedics were on my flight and they attended to me straight away, I was told later in hospital a vast majority of the other passengers were more concerned with getting their phones out and filming rather than jumping in and helping
  • Filming is scumbag behaviour, but I recall reading years ago a study that suggested good old fashioned pre phone "rubbernecking" is a natural response to such situations, as a way of us working out how we can avoid being in the same position. If we see others in distress, we can work out how we might avoid it.

I think there’s also some Freudian theories suggesting our natural fascination in these incidents is due to our ‘death instinct’.
  • I hate the phrase 'rubbernecking', it sets out to vilify a perfectly natural human behaviour.

True. But I would say that there is in all of us an element that can adapt and recognise a situation through experience not to do something that if it was you, you wouldn't like someone else doing.

2 wanky ones on e-mail today

    1. I ask somebody for some information. Response - "No problem, Let me socialise with the team and I'll revert"

    2. Somebody asking me to do something. "Appreciate it if you could triage and allocate to a member of your team"

No 2 is still waiting for a response...
They sound like Andy Hamilton's Gus Hedges character from Drop the Dead Donkey.

I'm stealing and will use at every opportunity #2, absolute word salad of a sentence, guaranteed to annoy anyone with a short fuse.
    It did!

I do a bit of YouTube vlogging like Braziliance, albeit Photography related... Given the time of the day, I'd put together footage for about two videos that will need editing, so was mightily pissed off with myself when I got home and discovered it was missing

Agree Arsentat's, I had a mate at work who used to say he was having "Open wallet surgery" each time a dentist was mentioned, and I know a crown can cost £800 + private, so it don't take too long to be talking "plans".
Really they have you over a barrel, and it's just precautionary treatment that he's quoting, but suggest you get a second opinion, anyway best of luck with this...🤞

I also had a brilliant dentist, he would only do what needed to be done, did it (relatively painlessly), and fully explained what he was doing and why. For example I had a decayed tooth, he said that it could be rebuilt or crowned, but there wasn't much point as it would be expensive and wasn't visible, so he removed it for £45. (he actually told me that they don't pull the tooth, but press down hard to break it off before removing). He retired and went to live in Ireland and his surgery was taken over by a new practise. They carried out a major refurbishment, all expensive lighting and flooring and state of the art chairs, new attractive assistants, lots of glossy pictures on the wall of the Dental team.

I noticed that every time I went it was getting more expensive, and more work was needed. I put the additional work down to getting old. I then had severe tooth ache and a septic gum. The dentist kept banging on about bridging the gap where the removed tooth was, dental alignments, Crowns and veneers, and didn't focus in the reason why I went there ie I was in pain. I eventually had to be blunt and just say please sort my painful tooth out, Im a sixty year old man whose teeth have been this way for years and Im not interested in cosmetic dental work. She still kept banging on about the dental plans etc why she did my tooth, but I managed to tune her out.

Once done I vowed never to return again and I had great pleasure in telling them so, but it was a shame as I had been there since I was a child. Instead went to a new more traditional dentist. However recently I have started to notice a refurbishment programme, new expensive lighting, flooring and chairs, so regrettably I think it's going to happen again.

I need to find a traditional, old school dentist. Preferably NHS. I don’t know if they still exist sadly.

I have just signed up with an NHS dentist nearer to me as I was sick of driving back to Bexleyheath. Had a few to choose from so they are out there

  • Agree dentistry is in a mess. Had to go private after covid as had moved and couldn't get on a nhs one. Luckily when we bought our house my wonderful wife was on it and got us an NHS dentist. However every time we are there there are walk ins and people on the phone being told they're taking no more NHS patients. So we are very lucky. But generally treatments etc are extra charge.

The dentist there is brilliant. She's big on prevention rather than treatment. She told me I have 2 teeth with deeper than usual fissures. Most dentists would stick a filling on them but she recommended me a special brush and technique to make sure I could get in there and said she would monitor them over time. Checked every 6 months for 2.5 years and she told me every time they're not getting any worse.

Then she goes on maternity leave and the replacement dentist isn't as good. Before she even looked at my teeth she looked at the notes and pictures from last time (that the previous dentist had said were fine) and said you need 2 fillings. I have a rule about not arguing with medical professionals but in this case I said I'd rather wait until the main dentist was back. She tried to convince me that they would get worse in that time but tbh I just don't believe her when thebother dentist had tracked for more than 2 years and they hadn't changed.

Ah, thank you. Sadly I’m near but not that near. Interesting that you’ve found an nhs one though. Gives me hope. Will look after my eye ops.
  • I’m off to the dentist this morning. It hasn’t been NHS since the 90’s. I don’t know if they are any better or worse than any others but they have seen me right over the years. 61 years old and still got a full allocation of teeth including 4 wisdom teeth.
I’ve had Denplan for years and currently pay£60 a month for it. It give me peace of mind, when I go there.  I here the cost of treatments, in my dentist like root canal, £850-£1250. I think that’s a reason why NHS dentists are rare and many don’t do these expensive treatments.

everything about Rugby seems to be to make things different from football just to be different, my personal bugbear is they dont point to the direction of play when a penalty or decision is made.

So what am I supposed to do...🤷‍♂️
Posting by others before the line-up is not my problem, all I do is get the lay-out up and running with a bit of info, whilst I wait for the line-ups, purely for a bit of reading by anyone interested.
So now, it seems that ain't good enough...
I add the line-up just as soon as it is available on the OS, and it seems a few others do that before I can sometimes, resulting in various postings.
    Anyway.....🤷‍♂️

Get out the wrong side of the bed did ya? :)
  • My old dentist has retired. He was lovely. I first went to him when I had a tooth that hurt occasionally that someone else had put a temporary filling in 10 years previously and it was still there. Options - remove tooth, root canal treatment or antibiotics and leave well alone. No need to refill if it had stayed in that long. So left as it was. He retired and 2 years later the temporary filling came out. Still ok as no pain. Recently half the tooth broke off. Also still ok but thought I should have it looked at.
Went to a dentist and asked if it would be ok to leave the tooth as it was. No infection showed on x ray. Meanwhile he’s totting up quotes on having another tooth crowned (he recommends gold) etc etc. By the time I leave he’s got a ‘dental plan’ that’s into thousands. Finally admits that the tooth was ok (now dead so no pain) but all this other stuff needed doing. Oh and the dead tooth should be removed and replaced by an expensive implant. It’s not a front tooth.
Said I wouldn’t have anything until after my cataract was done.
He said he would phone me after a month. I have blocked him. Fuck right off.

Looking after his bank balance rather than the patient.
    Not good.
