Kaheim Dixon - on a season long loan to Crawley (p25)

Have people really seen enough of him to say he won’t make it with us?
scored for fun at u-21 level and had a good L2 debut. He has talent, hopefully he will
mature during his loan and come back next summer as a valuable part of our squad21 -

Crispywood said:I doubt he will ever break into our team just doesn’t seem like a Nathan Jones type of player and not sure if he quite reaches the level, gives an Elewere/Barker/Wiredu kind of vibe someone who almost made it but not quite there. But good opportunity to make a healthy profit on a player who clearly has a lot of potential and cost us peanuts
looking forward to tuning in tonight to see how he handles the best team in the league.0 -
I don’t know why he wouldn’t be an NJ type of player? If he was lazy or had a bad attitude I’d agree, as we know talent isn’t enough for NJ to fit any player into his teams, but I’ve not seen or heard anything like that with Dixon.
Apter’s not big and powerful.
TC isn’t aggressive, he doesn’t win much in the air or crunch into tackles.
If Dixon breaks through here in the current set up I’d expect it to be in TCs role. He ticks boxes NJs boxes with his pace and work rate, he’s comfortable drifting out wide and he’s a goal threat.
Is this based on the feeling other managers would have played him used him more by now?
I don’t think NJ is against flair and creativity, it’s more that attacking players have to have an end product, and all players have to have the work rate, athleticism, fitness and do the right things tactically, alongside their ability.
Dixon isn’t seen as being there yet, but he can progress quickly if he impresses in L2.30 -
Some choices on Sky plus tonight in terms of Dixon, Ahadme and Asiimwe. Maybe Mitchell too if not too soon.6

As far as I can see at no point has Dixon done anything other than his best since joining us.
Young lad, uprooted from home, assimilated in an unfamiliar environment, hard working and full of positive enthusiasm. Hard to know what extra to expect at this point in time.
I would be very surprised if there was any falling out with Nathan Jones. There might be footballing differences of some kind, but I doubt if there are personal ones.5 -

The loan out is because we got promoted. If we were still in league 1 this season, then I would expect we would have seen him coming of the bench a reasonable number of times.
It is because he is not ready for the big step up to the Championship.0 -
My main take away from that highlight reel is how well he did at protecting the ball physically. We know he's quick and he's got tricks in his locker but the fear is always whether he can stand up to the physical side of the game and he bounced a couple of defenders off himself very well there. I think a season of getting kicked, shaking it off and getting more experience against English league defenders is going to be great for him12

Will see who is starting but if KD is that will be my go to game on Sky. Fascinated to see how he fairs over 90 mins and to catch a glimpse of his overall playing style as I haven’t seen enough in game to get a proper read on it. Highlights looked good in his last outing cameo.1

The question is then though whether he needs another loan at League One to develop further, all the while we have players already here and any that get bought that he will be competing with.
My fear is that he ends up something of an Alex Mitchell/Terry Taylor type signing - a perfectly decent player who never quite makes it into the first team consistently for other reasons than lack of ability.

Clearly got a lot of talent. I’m hoping after this years loan to toughen him up he will be an explosive wild card off the bench for us next season. Surely an outfield bench of eight can accommodate such a talent ?2

He's got bags of talent but is very rough around the edges having had no formal football education. If anything, it's very impressive he's got a League 2 loan given his short stint in England so far.
If he can get through the season and learn to keep the ball in tight areas, play simple passes under pressure and work on the basics, he'll improve drastically and could potentially be an option for us next season, especially if we get relegated.1 -
If we plucked a 19-year-old out of the 8th tier, and within a year he was loaned to a League Two club, coming off the bench and instantly lighting it up like Dixon just did. I'm sure we'd be buzzing. The problem is that he arrived as a much-heralded international signing, the manager called him a 'wonderful player,' and that has raised expectations. Instead of us looking at him as a normal young player developing at the right pace, he's being measured against the hype. That makes any progress look underwhelming, when in reality, instead of scepticism, there would normally be optimism.
Whatever happens, he was obviously worth the punt.17 -
Doesn't help he's playing, and playing regularly at that, for Jamaica against semi decent opposition and looking good doing it, makes the hype even bigger1

Jones needs to trust his players because discipline to the team shape and individual roles and responsibilities is key to what makes his teams work. Rightly or wrongly, perhaps because of his background coming out of a less professional football upbringing, I think Dixon may have to work a bit harder than some to convince Jones. I'm sure Jones sees the talent and I think Dixon can earn that trust, but harder for him to do that just in the U23s. For that reason, I think this loan is great for Dixon and if it goes well I wouldn't rule out him coming back in January and getting more involved in the Charlton First Team, especially if we maybe have one or two out injured around that time.
Scoham is right though - he's probably competing with TC and Olaofe in terms of where he might fit into our current team and it'll be tough to get ahead of them at the moment. Maybe a successful half season at Stevenage could allow a step up to League One on loan for the second half to fast track his learning a bit. Lots of options and he has time on his side and we are now in the rare (for us at least) position of being able to manage his development carefully and not rush him.4 -
I know it's not necessarily a nice thing to consider but it's not impossible to think we sell TC next summer, Dixon would then have a chance to fight for that spot. Also likely that this season is make or break for Kanu and that next season Mbick goes out on loan which could also open up another slot in and around the squad2

Starting tonight - alongside Charlie Barker and Louie Watson4

MacGillivray, Gilbert also starting for MK, Leko on the bench.1

NTT20 have been very complimentary of all of our loans, said Dixon was the changing point for Crawley at the weekend, Asimwe seemingly they think is been incredible and Ahadme they think will be excellent at a smaller club4

Interestingly appears to be playing centrally as a number 101

Never seen such a poor passer of the ball off of this small sample size.

Needs to learn to pass in front of his man, keeps passing it behind the winger who imagine is doing his bit that he has to keep turning to receive it0
-
Just had a great effort though. Maybe he just needs to run and shoot and do nothing else ha ha0
-
Decent strike saved for a corner1
-
Been brilliant last 5 minutes, anonymous before that.3
-
Nearly had an assist too, but his teammate spooned over.1
-
Seems to struggle with some of the basics but clearly capable of some real magic.
