Regardless of tomorrow’s result it sounds like the FA want Nigel to stay on and he’s the most successful England manager since you bribed the officials in 66.

how would everyone feel if he walked away for club football?

Scotland had it with both Walter Smith and McLeish and despite them not even qualifying for anything it still pisses me off that they walked out on their country for club football, imho playing for/managing your country is supposed to be the proudest part of your career and you should only stop when you’re no called up/a change of manager is needed
This is what I really didn’t want to happen. The FA are always making crap decisions and that one would be as mental as previous bad ones. Thank him for his remarkable service, give the bloke a knighthood and part company. Limping to the final in this doesn’t excuse his lack of nous with the squad he has my nan could get to the final with the draw we had.
im praying he goes into club management with Man Utd that would be hilarious 🤣
    Totally agree, minus the knighthood

Anyone know a good boozer kind of anywhere in SE that isn't yet completely done for bookings? A load of us have left it a bit too late as we're playing cricket in Shoreham (1pm start, 30 overs a side, done by 5ish we hope) and weren't sure when we'd be able to get somewhere.

Ideally one of Greenwich, Kidbrooke, Dartford, Lewisham/Lee, Bromley would be the options owing to the respective geographies of our group and transport logistics. Cheers
The Chandos in Honor Oak is a solid option with a big projector and doesn't take bookings, so if you're in early enough you're sorted. I'll be taking no risks tomorrow so probably rocking up at about 12.30!
  • Just win today.
A lot of us have had to wait 50+ years for this.
  • Good luck to those going out at 12, I'd love to but there would be no way I'd be remembering the game.

On the piss in Berlin. Secured our tickets on the train from Düsseldorf to Berlin yesterday - thank fuck for German 5G efficiency!

Wait, you picked up a 5G signal on a German train? That’s about as likely as the 7.58 from Barnehurst arriving on time at  Charing X every day for a month. I’m almost more jealous of this than that you and other Addicks are going to the game. Almost. Enjoy, all of you.
  • 3am at a bar in Bali, tryinf to make the most of naps in the day to power through.

Praying I'll go to bed happy rather than miserable! C'monnn England!
  • It’s a glorious day in Prague, so I’m watching it with my brother in law ona public screen in a big park in Vinohrady. He is baffled that I cannot supply England gear to wear, so I’m going to wear my vintage Nike polo with the big CAFC logo, and donate him my London 2012 tracksuit top. He came over for London 2012 with me, so it’s a sign, I tell thee.

Not sure what he’ll think if we get a beer-shower, mind. It’s Pilsner Urquell there, show some respect 😉
  • Will do the usual and mute the sound when the English anthem is played as its shite as there is no God and Royalty is an anachronism.

I will sing hope of land and Glory for my country that I love and  despite some dodgy Welsh blood on my maternal side for the first time ever will be relaxed and hope football is the winner. (🤥 Must be the medication talking)

If Gareth Southgate with subs can Master
To get talent on earlier must surely be the aim
As football is a game of triumph and disaster
and those polar opposites are not the same.
  • I am not happy that Southgate has played Trippier in a position that doesn't suit him and deprives us of width on that side. I am not happy how defensive we are with the attacking talent we have. I make no secret of the fact, I don't rate Southgate but I will say this. I also believe that winning is the be all and end all and nobody can argue with two Euro finals in two tournaments. If he is simply ultra lucky, well great. But he deserves credit and whatever happens, he has had a successful tournament.

  • My internet has gone down this morning and as I have sky glass and stream everything, this evening’s plans may have to be revised. I think it may be a sign, the biggest game since the last biggest one and I might miss out.
  • James Graham, a now very notable playwright, has throughout his writing career tested the notion that live Theatre is only for the intelligentsia or posh middle and upper class people.
He wanted live Theatre to be meaningful to more people.
I am a fan of live Theatre, and went to see his play ‘Dear England’ at the National Theatre (thanks to Pico of this parish).
Now I have seen a few football related plays, from Zigger Zagger, ‘An evening with Gary Lineker’, ‘Red Lion’ and others, but none of them have quite hit the spot.
So I went to see ‘Dear England’ with no special expectations.
For those who don’t know it is essentially about Gareth Southgate and his management of the England football team. Not only was it theatrically really quite excellent, but it was a moving exploration of popular culture, where iconic figures (Notably Harry Kane and Gareth Southgate) were humanised brilliantly, and we were invited to see an aspect of things that is not filtered through the media and the internet, and stereotypical memes.
It was actually Theatre working at its best. And after all a match at the Valley could be called live improvised theatre for many reasons.
The play was impactful, and makes me want England to have success not for patriotic reasons, but for reasons of the very humanity of the Manager, coaches and players.
It is also for all genuine football fans who love the game.
During the matches I can get quite fixated trying to spot the flags and banners of all the clubs up and down the land, and love seeing the ones from the ‘smaller’ clubs. For those people and everybody else it would be very special if England won this evening.
I especially want it for Southgate, Crystal Palace notwithstanding.

Were Scotland involved in this competition?
    Apparently
  • So, to the biggest issue of the day - BBC or ITV?
  • So, to the biggest issue of the day - BBC or ITV?
    Mines BBC or RTÉ.
If we win (🙏🏻) I will switch over to the Irish channel to watch Dietmar Harmann crying like a girl.

    Pleeeeeeeeeeeease!!!!
  • So, to the biggest issue of the day - BBC or ITV?
BBC all the way. Mowbray is a much better commentator than Matterface.  Shame Roy Keane isn’t on BBC really.
  • Mowbray is insidiously terrible. Matterface is merely deeply annoying. Suspect I won't have a choice in the matter
  • So, to the biggest issue of the day - BBC or ITV?
ITV - Like Keane and don't mind Wrighty in small doses. Rio and Micah on the other hand, I find proper jars.

  • I've had a bit of a tidy up and mowed the lawn.
If football is coming home I want it to have a nice reception.
