Pretty sure they looked around for a replacement, there was a lot of talk before the cup final he was as good as gone.
Then they won and it became awkward, but instead of looking back at how the previous 2 league seasons went, the fact they'd slumped to 8th, and how they somehow still have no noticeable style of play after 2 years they let a one off win in the cup final rule their heads and kept him.

It's a good debate though.
Would you rather be United who despite their shortcomings in the league and regular hammerings by both City and Liverpool, have won 2 trophies in 2 seasons. Or Arsenal who are widely praised for their football and challenging City in the last 2 years but have won nothing.
I think you'd rather be an Arsenal fan at the moment, the side is younger, playing better and all in a more modern stadium under a younger, more progressive head coach.
Sides this big are expected to win a domestic cup every couple of years, it's nothing new to them (unlike someone like Newcastle or Aston Villa winning it as they haven't as often in recent history)

Funny how things go sometimes - United blew a 3-0 lead against a Championship side in the semi final, if they'd have lost that penalty shootout then Teg Hag was done.
One good game in the final shouldn't have saved a whole season for him - it should have rang alarm bells that he couldn't get them playing anywhere near as effectively the rest of the season.
I think the fact that not many other obvious choices (Tuchel or Pochettino were the obvious ones I guess) were out of work saved him but I don't think he'll last much longer.
I'd worry if I was a United fan that they'll try to go back in for Southgate though!

Absolute nonsense rules. They were a PL club during the 3 year period in which they were over the loss limit, but because they were in the championship by the time they were charged, they get away with it.
They were relegate at the end of May, so lost there Premiership share at that point. The accounts we submitted in June when they were a Championship Club, so not subject to the Prem rules at that point. As a relegated team they are allowed losses of £83 million over 3 years which would include the accounts submitted in June as mentioned above. Now it would look they would breech Championship spending restrictions, but of Course when promoted at the end of the season they are no longer Subject EFL rules and so will avoid action from them.
