  • Interesting that the Community Shield is on Saturday this year at 3pm rather than Sunday. And televised on ITV, so clashing with the L2 fixture programme. I'm surprised the Saturday 3pm blackout rules allow this.

all those League 2 games are on Sky Sports + aren't they?

On Virgin: I went on channel 508 , and press the Red bar in the bottom line of colours of the hand set....after a few seconds sky sports + loads, navigate down to Live EFL league one on Sky sports+, for Saturday 5.30, (There is a game on Friday BarnsleyV Mansfield.8.00p. )
Not sure you can preset to record /or even record as the record button does not work!, so does not help me  as I have my grand-daughters birthday party to go to. hopefully a replay will be available later that evening as Sam3110 mentions above.

  • Shrewsbury on now and have gazumped us by showing off their new kit that the women's team have designed and being used as their away kit and the men's third kit
  • Stuff on demand like this often isn't HD so be interesting to see the pic quality (though it will be better than the Handycam nature of much ifollow stuff).
  • so with the new sky sports+ channel, will it be similar to iPlayer where you click a red button to view the game you want to watch?
  • Out of interest who will be the commentator for Wigan  ?  Do Sky have enough commentators for every League 1 game on Saturday ? I (stupidly) thought that it might be Greg & Terry but then my son said the pictures would be universal so the commentary also.

Any ideas or am I being stupid & missing something?

  • Can you get this if you haven’t got a Sky Q box?
  • Can you get this if you haven’t got a Sky Q box?
Only the “linear channel” not the red button stuff - which on the whole will be where our matches are. Problem for me too. Think I might be asking for a discount off the c £80 a month Sky subscription.
  • So in theory, if you’ve got one of those snazzy controllers, you can talk into, press the magic button and say ‘ Charlton Athletic’ and end up on the Charlton match.

Thanks H. I’m ok but my parents haven’t got Sky Q at the moment, but will have next month when they move in with us !!

    More information on SKY SPORTS+

It’s worth noting that subscribers with the older Sky+ box will receive the new Sky Sports+ linear channel (if they have a full sports subscription), but they won’t have access to the live streams as Sky+ is not compatible with the Sky Sports+ streaming app.

I DIDN'T KNOW THIS UNTIL NOW. HAVE RESISTED GETTING Q DUE TO MANY PEOPLE HAVING PROBLEMS CONNECTING Q TO BT WIFI. GRR. ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS A SOLUTION.

TO RUB SALT IN THE WOUND HAVE JUST RENEWED MY SKY SUB FOR 2 YEARS.

    Same issue for us, redman.

I'm planning to call Sky today for clarification as there appears to be an App which when downloaded will enable us to access the stream , for us, via my laptop.

This isn't my forte though so hoping someone will talk me through the process .

If successful, I'll share on here.

Annoyingly there is no laptop app. It’s sky box or on your phone / tablet which is a real pain for those of us who travel around a bit
  • Bit late to the party on this. Can someone explain what SKY's thinking is? Are they trying to free up Saturday 3pm for live PL games?

Don’t think so as that would require a lot of outside activity. Think they’re gambling on lots of people wanting to watch EFL games, particularly midweek

I was given mis-information from virgin and won't be able to watch on my tv box. I hate to say this but the call centre in India just lie if they don't know the answer. I have just spoken to a very professional technical support operator in Belfast and they will be sending me the correct box in time for Tuesday's game (doesn't affect my contract and is free) but are refunding me £10 for giving me mis-information. My contract ends in January and I am still leaving them.

I have downloaded sky sports on my laptop. I don't want to watch it on my phone. I can watch sky sports channels but not clear whether I can access the red button games. I think I will just get the channels but could be pleasantly surprised. It isn't the sky sports app I am in despite it saying it was when I downloaded it. I will test tonight's red button games and see if I can get them, if not I will buy via Charlton TV. My son says I am a dinosaur but there is so much conflicting information nowadays when it should be simple.

Posting this in case it helps Virgin customers. Poor sods like me! The fact they had a really good operator makes it worse for me as why do they persist with the ones without the skills/training. It shows it can be done but they don't want to do it/pay for it.

  • How do I watch Sky Sports+ on Virgin TV?

If you watch TV on our Virgin TV 360 box or Stream from Virgin Media, there are three ways to access Sky Sports+. You’ll find the best action available in HD or SD (depending on your subscription) on CH 508, formerly Sky Sports Arena, with all the live action accessible at the touch of a button on Sky Sports+ Red Button. This can be accessed by pressing the red button on your remote (not the Record button) on any Sky Sports channel.

And you can also use the Sky Sports app (available free to all Sky Sports subscribers) to get all the live sport available on Sky Sports+, with the added bonus that you can watch wherever you are in the UK, as long as there’s WiFi, 3G or 4G.

If you watch on our TiVo® box or V6 box (powered by TiVo), you can get all the action on Sky Sports+ on CH 508 in HD (or SD on CH 518) or the Sky Sports app. You can’t get the Sky Sports+ Red Button, though, so if that sounds like something you want then it’s super-simple to upgrade your Virgin TV box. Just contact us on 0345 454 1111 (or call 150 from a Virgin Media phone).

If you’re an existing broadband customer who wants to add a TV package to your subscription, find out more about them here.

I posted on 2nd August that you needed to have the Virgin TV 360 box or upgrade your existing box.  :(

I don't know whether Sky blocks this but if you have a Chromecast or Apple TV connected to your TV, you should be able to mirror your phone/tablet screen to the television to be able to watch the game on the bigger screen? Some newer TVs will even have this technology built into them and you don't need the additional device plugged in.
  • I am using SkyQ with full sports package……the new Sky Sports+ is on channel 412.
Games can be recorded but not sure if you can set to record beforehand?
My planner is showing Wrexham (im shocked) v Wycombe. I’m guessing I select this match and then press the red button?
  • Can't seem to figure this out. But if I pay for a Now TV pass, can I record the game or watch it later in the day? Sadly I'm busy at 5.30pm tomorrow...

Yes, try it now and you'll see our game as an option.
  • Trying to watch Barnsley Vs Mansfield. The coverage is appalling. Constantly freezing and juddering. Checked my WiFi speed and it's definitely not that causing the issue.

Have Sky overstretched themselves and not given these red buttons games enough bandwidth?

Looks like Barnsley have overstretched themselves

yes, freezing and juddering. I’m flicking through the games and this is the only one with issues.

They’re still using dial up in Barnsley
