Charlton Summer Transfer Rumours 2024

Scott was in charge of that window, Mr Todd and will be judged on that window. You can disagree with me of course but that’s why I put that link up.Todds_right_hook said:
He isn’t an owner. I clearly said owners!! Therefore, the current owners were not in charge in jan 2023 and I stand by what I posted. This ownership (not employees of the ownership) have had one full window to date and this is their first proper summer window.shirty5 said:

Yes the owners weren't involved in January 2023s rubbish window, nor the rubbish summer window of 2023 and of course the transformational January 2024 window !Todds_right_hook said:
Writing on the wall? This is the first proper summer window under the new owners, I know some on here want to include last summer and the January before but sandgaard was still in charge up to late July last year. The new owners have spoken a good talk and I think more bodies will come in this week and before the season starts.golfaddick said:Todds_right_hook said:

Still not enough & the 4 or 5 new players ncludes 2 GK's. We are still a very long way off assembling a squad that could get top 6, let alone automatic promotion. Technically it’s 4 players if Mitchell is done which is a lot more than usual before pre season, I think Jones has put un needed pressure on himself by saying it’ll be done when in hindsight it’s so rare to have your squad sorted by then but hopefully 2/3 next week and that’ll take us up to 6/7 which isn’t to bad.charlton_hero said:Doesn't pre-season start next Thursday? Ho hum.
Football forums, and patience don’t seem to go hand in hand.
With that being less than a week away it’s not looking like it’ll happen. We need around 8-10 signings and a handful of players to move on.
the problem is that the majority want it to be the first statement and are hanging on it, winding themselves up and others up because they can’t see it happening.
if and I know it’s an if and we have 2-3 in next week and another 2-3 in during the rest of the window, jones has got his wish. And that is a lot of our business (not all) done in time for pre season training.“We’d like to get the squad completed by our return date of June 27th,” he said. “We’ve worked tirelessly for the last three to four weeks in terms of arranging meetings with players. We’re trying to be bold in our recruitment.
“I’m sure that by the time that we do get to the first day of pre-season, we’ll have the majority, if not all, of our squad in place. That’s so important because pre-season is a real big time, an important time to gel the squad and lay down certain things.
I am guessing another GK, a striker and an attacking midfielder, but would appreciate the facts.
Cheers.
But if so its not enough & we will struggle massively. But all we can do is wait & see.
3 keepers
LB: Small, Edun, Edwards
CB: REG, Jones, Gillesphey, Mitchell, Ness
RB: Ramsay, Watson, Asiimwe
Midfield: Berry, Coventry, Anderson, Taylor
Wingers: Campbell
Strikers: May, Chuks, Leaburn, Kanu
I've not included the younger kids or people like Fraser who will likely go.
So that's already a 23 man squad when Mitchell signs. Assumption would be that we will definitely add a striker and then i guess we probably need a wide attacker/winger and an attacking midfielder.
Beyond that i can't see us signing anyone else unless a player leaves (like May). Highly unlikely we're going to be making another 5/6/7 signings, especially when Jones has previously said he wanted a smaller, more streamlined squad.
That squad is far too similar to the one which ended the season
i suggest that comments like this are put on hold for a month, then we can assess and comment on the depth and quality of the squad.
Said every year about this time when old sages's like myself can see the writing on the wall.
IF we sold Alfie for £1.5M & IF that money was spent on a decent replacement (ie, a proven goalscorer at this level who will get you 15-20 goals a season) then I would begrudgingly concede it's a good deal.
But it wont. We'll buy 1 or 2 of the goalscorers previously mentioned who'll end up with 8 or 10 goals.....with everyone saying it's up to the rest of the team to make up the shortfall.
Which is the problem as we've not had other players chipping in with 6 or 7 goals......apart from JRS & CBT who left and have not been replaced.
So again, one of the reasons why we need another 6 or 7 players is that our current squad DOESN'T SCORE GOALS.
And relax.
The current squad includes bell. He will score and create chances and is a very good player at this level. Leaburn will also create and score. May, may go but is currently a Charlton player and can score goals. Kanu is another year older and should improve on last seasons tally. as it stands, leaburn, may, Kanu and aneke plus bell will get us goals. I’ve read on here that Campbell will be played centrally next year and I expect him to score more than last year.
I think that you saying that this squad doesn’t score goals is way off the mark. The bigger problem last year was conceding and conceding soft. Edwards, Mitchell (if signs) plus two new goalkeepers, plus the January signings getting a pre season in them, should address that.
the priority now, in my eyes into more midfielders
IF things get better it will be down to Nathan Jones not the owners who have been MASSIVELY involved in the last three SHIT transfer windows ffs!!!
they took control late in the window last summer
no offence but this is one of the most stupid posts I have ever read on here. You make Ronnie Moore look like a sporting guru!!!
https://www.charltonafc.com/video/player/0_66nqkuvp
Scott was working for sandgaard in Jan 2023 with the brief to move on players, which Scott did. I don’t think Scott can be judged on that windowThe Gang of 4 (Holden, Rodwell, Scott and Warwick) came in on a try before you buy period which eventually led to them buying the club with all of them being there when the deal finally went through.6 -

We need around 7 very, very good players anyway, that’s bloody hard enough as it is. 8 if May leaves is even harder.
What I simply don’t understand is lots of people are saying we’ll just go and sign May’s replacement and a younger version or we’ll sign two strikers for the cost of what we’d get for May or whatever else. But if it was that simple, why would Huddersfield be after the top goal scorer in the league when they could sign other, younger, less expensive strikers? They want May because they know he’ll score 20+ goals next season, that’s why.
Of course, there is a long way to go yet and the season doesn’t start for another 7 weeks. However, don’t put the pressure on to say we’re trying to have the squad pretty much complete by the start of pre-season, which is just 5 days away, and we need more than 5 top quality signings.
Also tired of seeing Coventry being better than Dobson when we simply haven’t seen it at all. He’s only 2 years younger than Dobson and has not even played 100 games yet whereas Dobson has played over 300. George seemingly just another player who really needs to be replaced.
This isn’t being doom and gloom, it’s just we are nowhere near strong enough for what we need to achieve and there is so much more to do, on and off the pitch, that letting the only one in the team who scores goals leave is quite frankly mental right now.96 -

How do you know how many offers Dobson had from clubs in England, or anywhere else for that matter, are you his sodding agent or something, it could have been Hungary for a number of reasons, most of which are unknown by you or anyone else, maybe he just didn't want to be in the UK anymore, and would have gone to Hungary anyway...RonnieMoore said:

NO HE ISN'T...you really do have a hang up on Dobson don't you...🤦♂️
Selling Dobson and May are both good decisions in Ronnie's world.
as well .. May is simple it’s between Jones and May .. If Jones don’t see him as a starter then it’s down to May to decide if he stays and fights for his spot or jump ship …. All transfers in and out is now down to Jones .
You do seem to claim to know a lot about nout truth be known, and you just have a huge hang up regarding Dobson in general for whatever reason.3 -
Jones will get the a***ache with his transfer budget and not be with us come the end of the season.valleynick66 said:

I think it was a really naive and stupid thing to say for NJ that he expects the squad near complete by 27th June - it's another one of those sound bites that "sounds" good at the time but when you really think about it not only is it unfeasable (players on holiday etc) but it also unnecassarily limits your options (better players won't even necassarily become available until later in the window as other teams do business unless you are willing to pay through the nose for it - which clearly, we aren't) ... and of course when the 27th comes and we are still 6-7 players short it just makes him look a bit stupid and actually a bit clueless to be honest.
The fact that Jones didn't appear to consider that and still said what he said should be a HUGE red flag about his judgement IMO.
I'm also absolutely raging about the May situation - not even because of the May/Jones not getting along rumour (although seriously, if that's the reason, fucking grow up and be professional) not even because Jones apparently doesn't think he can fit him in (ok fair enough maybe? giving Jones the beneft of the doubt) The rage is because there is no way, no FUCKING way we should be gifting another team in this league a 20 goal plus player - either sell him to a different league or stick him in the reserves for a year - whatever - be under no illusions this is purely a financial decision and has NOTHING to do with what the aim should be which is promotion because all we are doing is making it actively harder for ourselves. I don't care how the SMT or Jones care to spin it - we are under no obligation to sell, we aren't over a barrel here, there is no other reason to do it than short term financial gain.

It'll be a sad day when May leaves this club. Be it this summer or at the end of his contract. I just hope Nathan can secure the forwards he believes will make us better.0

Right Alfie May:
Being an exiled addick I have had a season ticket for Cheltenham for the last few years I told the doubters, and there were plenty ,a year ago that Alfie would score goals here, I had seen him keep Cheltenham up for 2 seasons single handedly! We got a bargain I think all can agree but we have all been Addicks long enough to know exactly how this is going to play out, we will sell Alfie, to a promotion rival, as many have pointed out, we will buy a couple of forwards to replace him, Etette..do me a favour, Alfie had to drag him through his loan year at Cheltenham! We will buy bang average replacements who will score an average amount of goals and after 10 games we will be halfway in the league and preying for Leaburn to rescue us! We will gripe and moan and Jones will take the Welsh job, the next manager will be moaning we haven't got an inform striker and wish we had kept Alfie who will be at the top of the scoring charts firing Huddersfield to promotion! I apologise for the rant but I have supported this club so long I know the script off by heart...rant over and sorry again30 -

I won’t comment until we know what shape the squad is in when the season starts , however it is starting to get the feeling of previous seasons broken promises and false dawns and by the time the season the first team squad will be propped by square pegs in round holes and kids7

i suggest that comments like this are put on hold for a month, then we can assess and comment on the depth and quality of the squad.
And relax.
This isn’t being doom and gloom, it’s just we are nowhere near strong enough for what we need to achieve and there is so much more to do, on and off the pitch, that letting the only one in the team who scores goals leave is quite frankly mental right now.6 -
