Charlton Summer Transfer Rumours 2024

Bolton wouldn't be so stupid as to sell their top strikergolfaddick said:
Wouldn't make much more sense for Huddersfield (a northern team) signs Charles (a northerner who has played up north all his career) rather than southern based Alfie May.king addick said:Charles under contract until 2026. You have to think if we do get this money for May then every penny of it goes to a like for like replacement.
Whilst I don't want May to go, if he doesn't want to stay then he should be sold. Good as he as you should only want players who want to be here.5 -
I am totally against selling May but if he did go for 1.5 mil then doesn't he get 20% of that....would be 300K for someone nearing the end of his career....so would be a good move for him.....not us0
-
Where have you got that from? Sounded like there's a sell on clause for Cheltenham from their version of Cawley, but I don't think players are guaranteed to get a set % of a transfer fee.ct_addick said:I am totally against selling May but if he did go for 1.5 mil then doesn't he get 20% of that....would be 300K for someone nearing the end of his career....so would be a good move for him.....not us6 -
I don't want May to go, obviously, but I do have a morbid curiosity around the scale of meltdown we would see on here in that situation10

Depends on the contract signed surely.Scoham said:

Huddersfield will pay him a signing on fee (rather than us). That, not getting on with NJ & being a starter under Duff will be Alfie’s motivations to leave.3
-
Danny Hylton played with James Collins for Nathan Jones before and he dipped his bread. Hylton is an out and out goalscorer, wind up merchant as well
The only reason to sell the best centre forward in the division is if someone offered a truly obscene amount of money but then you have the impossible task of replacing someone who will get you 20 goals a season. For me, I don't see the money, it doesn't benefit me and we do not have a good record of taking fees from the sale of our best players and reinvesting them well.
Jones likes athletic big horrible monsters up front but I'm sure he also likes scoring goals and winning games. We will do more of that with May than by selling him and blindly rolling the dice32 -
What have Charlton become if they can’t repel the advances of mighty Huddersfield! Used to be Prem and Championship clubs that would steal all our best players, now it’s League One teams!DubaiCAFC said:I would be surprised if we see Alfie in a charlton shirt again unfortunately.. Seems to be Huddersfield number 1 target..0 -
I prefer Sell May and Buy Mbappé.IdleHans said:To paraphrase the old stockmarket adage: Sell May and go away1 -
Why is he being stolen? What if he dosent fit in NJ’s plans which is why he’s being SOLD?SouthLincsAddick said:

The fans enthusiasm for him will very quickly fade if we do not get off to a flyer.3 -
I mean, that’s what he’s paid to do at the end of the day. He’s been given a remit to build a squad that he thinks can set us up for success. He has experience doing that and it’s why he was given big moves from Luton twice, now they didn’t work out but what he did at Luton is a big enough case study over an extended period of time to warrant some belief that his choices and abilities at building teams is justifiedElfsborgAddick said:

Buying him for £250K and selling him 12 months later for £1M is a steal?SouthLincsAddick said:

If we do sell May it will be a copy of what happened when that idiot Duchatelet came in and sold Yann. The new management then said - well how good can he be ? - the team is nearly bottom of the Championship and we can get better replacements in - eg Polish Pete, Vetokele, Tucadean.
None of them proved to be anywhere near Yann’s level and those of us who had watched all his games knew that. It’s one of those ideas where there is always something or someone better around the corner.
May is a proven goal scorer ( twice over !) at League 1 level. Charlton would be stupid to sell him.32 -
This is such a weak argument, why do people keep making it?I-SAW-POUSO-PLAY said:Trust in what Jones' does and the ownership does. We had CBT and Dobson together for 2 and a half years and sat mid table.
The infrastructure of the club is getting better behind the scenes, this will only help in the future for everything. I see good times coming.7 -
That was the owner this is the manager. Let’s see who else we bring in before losing the plotalburyaddick said:If we do sell May it will be a copy of what happened when that idiot Duchatelet came in and sold Yann. Selling Alfie would simply be one hell of a gamble…..nothing more nothing less.
If I were in Jones’s shoes, there’s no way I’d have the bottle to even consider it.🫨11 -
Did someone just make up the £1.5m and now people are assuming that’s the price?10

Where is all this wild speculation about selling May coming from?
Other than acknowledging Huddersfield have made a bid and may up their bid, after the club rejected it, is all I’ve seen or heard.
Where is the rest of the info coming from, that’s sent everyone into a frenzy, as though it’s fact, where are the facts?1 -
He didn’t sell Yann, he left at the end of his contract as we didn’t put a decent deal on the tablealburyaddick said:If we do sell May it will be a copy of what happened when that idiot Duchatelet came in and sold Yann. Except that one wasn’t sanctioned by the manager. And also this ‘new management’ were the ones that brought him in.alburyaddick said:If we do sell May it will be a copy of what happened when that idiot Duchatelet came in and sold Yann. May is a proven goal scorer ( twice over !) at League 1 level. Charlton would be stupid to sell him.No one knows if he’ll go and no one knows how it will pan out, but with all his goals last season, we came 16th and finished in our worst ever league position. We must improve the squad and if selling May is the only way we can do that then so be it. I’ll be gutted to lose him, but Jones knows what he wants and I have far more faith in him then anyone else who has been running this club for the past 8-10 years.2 -
I don't know why, but selling may would have me nowhere near as upset as selling kermorgant17

But if he not going to start under Jones then Jones might want a striker that will start games .. we already saw May getting dropped , taken off when Jones come in .. Dion Charles named he would be upgrade on MaySoundAsa£ said:Selling Alfie would simply be one hell of a gamble…..nothing more nothing less.

That’s such a low bar the limbo option is out, you’ll need to tunnel under it.RC_CAFC said:
