I actually think season ticket holders should get free admission to the home pre-season friendly. People will still buy food and drink and you bet they'll go into the club shop and spend money too. As a benefit of season ticket holders, I think free admission is a nice gesture that people would appreciate.
I'm not sure it would make much difference to the numbers to be honest. For such games, it's the "can I be bothered" factor which will be more important...
Further to my point, for me and Mrs to go it's £20 on top of our already committed ST money. It might not be a lot in the grand scheme of things, but what happens is ST holders might take other people with them if they know their admission is free, they might take kids or family members who would not normally go, test whether a kid deals with going to a game well or not so they know for future.
If 50% of ST take up the offer, plus non ST holders who go, you're then likely to have a bigger crowd, a better experience for those new players too.
Not saying how to do a marketing job for this, but little things like this could turn out to work out really well.

That's fair, but if they don't need to pay for admission, psychologically that may sway their decision to attend and can be bothered.
I think some of the issue is with staffing costs. This way they know how many people are coming and how much staff to hire for the day. I guess you could have some kind of system where you have to redeem a free ticket but I don't think people would like that much

It would be the same system as purchasing a ticket, just without a cost attached. The club then know how many are still attending as they'll have a ticket and seat allocated. For a pre-season friendly at home, I think it's a good one to see if it works, if not, what loss is there really?
If you gave everyone £5 to enter, I doubt that you would get 27,000 for this pre season friendly v Pompey.
It’s a pity if the crowd is tiny. I think this will be a cracker of a game, as imo NJ will have the lads looking to show we mean business going into the new season. I don’t think NJ likes the idea of tippy tappy friendlies.
Pricing wise we could charge £10 and make it bring a child free or even better £5 per adult, £2 per child. I imagine it’s very challenging with a friendly but I’m hopeful we’ll do all we can to fill the Valley every game. Here’s hoping the football and results can draw fans back if the prices fail to.
I would make it £1 for every seat, purely because they have to keep a tab on attendance, then your ticket entitles you to 50% off your first drink either in the fans bar or the stadium bars. Drives up the numbers, gets people into the club shop and hopefully engaged and spending. Its a loss leader but may bare fruit further down the line. Friend of mine is a Fairweather Addick, he got free tickets via ST holders scheme from me last season, been back for almost every home game after that, and one of his sons is a gooner who is now the proud owner of a Charlton shirt. Speculate to accumulate and then get them coming back for more.
I was thinking this morning, why doesn't the club host a stream of the Slovenia pre-season game this Saturday at one of the bars in the Valley? It could be a good way of getting people into the club shop, and could coincide with the 2 vs 2 football tournament they are hosting in the new fan zone.

security, bar staff etc.. not worth the hassle for 40 people turning up.

Guaranteed 27,000 if you do that.
Honestly the boxes will go missing as well as the corner flags.
