I'm very disappointed that the group has been closed. It was informative, thought provoking and I will miss it.
I thought it was for “review” in early 2024 ? Has it officially now been laid to rest. Pity if so.
The group is showing as closed now, whereas each individual thread was showing as being closed previously and new threads were still able to be started.
We haven't made a final decision one way or the other yet, but I think we were all agreed that it couldn't carry on as it was, and the safest thing to do was to close it until we decided if there was a more sustainable way for it to continue functioning. And we've rather had other things on our minds lately, what with the transfer window and the latest managerial upheaval.
The sad thing is that the very people who got it closed down in the first place would start strutting their biases and screaming at each other as soon as it opened again. You know who you are!
It’s a real shame as the majority of posts there were informative and well balanced. Unfortunately the minority who went out of their way to be obnoxious and argumentative seem to have won
Singling out one specific poster again. Right on cue. It's like clockwork, and why the forum was rightly shut, and why I imagine this thread is about to be shut.

I think an opportunity to discuss political issues - albeit at a distance from the "main" threads on CL - is a good idea. Not least because it means differences between posters on CL can be aired away from the attention of other posters. But also, the political upheavals that are (currently) likely to take place here and in the home country of many of our investors this year play an important part in Charlton's long-term prospects.

Funny enough I never went on it but I read the reasons. If there is anyone “right on cue”…
For me it was always less controversial than the covid thread, where misinformation is regularly posted, something which I think is actually quite dangerous.
It was nothing more than an echo chamber dominated by about a dozen posters. Funnily enough some of them never post on football related threads. This is after all a football forum. Glad it's gone
I'm afraid it was absolutely toxic and it was the correct decision to close it. It was impossible to have a sensible conversation on there and I gave up in the end. There were a fair number who only posted on there or very rarely post anything about Charlton or anything else for that matter.
Bottom line, we have a number of posters who just can’t have decent debate with those with opposing views. Mature adults who should know better. Most of the time they just cannot see they are part of the problem and think it’s the others.
It was spoiling the forum so we created an area (HoC) to try and keep it seperate and that worked to a degree as it took the silliness away from the main forum. However, once sides become ‘entrenched’ and you know who your opposition is, then some form of flare up, nastiness, ganging up was becoming too frequent and too widespread to just get rid of one or two posters.
Additionally (and importantly), I barely get time to look at here like I used to and would go months without looking at HoC, and had no real wish to. So the moderation for that was firmly in the hands of others like Stig and Ali . They are lovely people who repeatedly go out of their way for others and probably deserved to be treated far better by many people.
I appreciate it’s ‘an interesting year’ politically, there were a number of decent posters and a lot of people really enjoyed it. But it does bring unecessary problems, differences between posters and some quite pathetic behaviour. We’ve absolutely no interest in policies featuring back to n the main forum (even though some can’t help themselves even though they know it’s not wanted).
Whether we re-open HoC or something similar in the future, who knows. In the meantime, there are lots of other platforms online you can go and have silly political spats with people.

That was where I got to, personally as much as I'd like to see it back IF it remained sensible I think that's unlikely as history shows, even less so in an election year so I'd be inclined to keep it closed and if I or anyone else wants to go and talk politics we can go on a politics forum. I couple of times waked away for a month or so, felt better for it if I'm honest as CE suggests it was far too often very toxic.
You could as SHG suggested have a one strike and your out, but that'll require a lot of time for the moderators, who lets be honest are moderating a football forum in their spare time.
I think, given the one of the best things about this site is how it brings Charlton fans together, having a section that seemed to cause endless division which had utterly nothing to do with football means it probably is better off closed.
I enjoyed the HoC part, but I don’t think it’s a massive loss for it to be consigned to the dustbin.
