But we will 100pc go down if either of them take over. Charlton has only ever achieved in my lifetime when having a dose of magic that feels uniquely us.
As a fan look at the evidence. Do you want to stay up?
Thought I saw Alex Dyer in the crowd tonight, not sure, but yes I’d have Powelly and Alex back in a heartbeat.
Question is, if Chris turned us down before the Appleton signing, would he still want to come?
Also Chris is a pretty honourable man, I’d be gobsmacked if he left Chef Wednesday in the lurch midseason and jumped ship, but let’s try to go and get him SMT and get the feel good factor back at the Valley, which you can’t put a price on, either that or Lee Bowyer or Michael Duff, would be my 3 to go for.
I don’t think a dose of magic that feels unique to us is evidence of anything.
I think the overwhelming actual evidence across the football pyramid will say that most teams that do well do so because of many different factors, none of them to do with some sort of romantic emotional connection.
We are such an awkward job these days. A fan base with 'delusions of championship or above grandeur. A huge bloody stadium. Cracking CV's at Cheltenham, Lincoln and Swindon etc are going to struggle when it comes to us. They always do. There will be no time for bedding in. They will need to hit the job running at Usain bolt levels.

Vote Powell.
I have considered the evidence.
Is he the man for this situation? Can he motivate another managers squad?
He succeeded last time after an awful spell which included losing to the likes of Dagenham. The mood that afternoon was pretty toxic..if we went on a similar run now we are down
He only turned it around in the summer when he brought in his own players
Whoever we pick next needs time, but they must also be able to motivate this squad.

Motivation to defend. We can score goals, but needing 3 every game and it is not manageable.
The key is to find a way for the team to defend in a compact shape, but at the same time not lose that attacking threat.
We are so vulnerable at the back, I expect a goal whenever the opposition attack.
The last manager had months to fix this and he could not.
We can score goals, we have loads of talent there, we need to sort out the patterns of play and shape when defending, and when we lose possession to have defence and midfield in a position to not be overrun. This is all about coaching , communication and playing as a team. This has to come from the manager and coaches, the desire to stop goals at all costs.

He'll be Wednesday's next manager if they get rid of Rohl this season.....which I doubt.
Wouldn't be my choice, last managed in 2019 where he was sacked by Southend, before that failed at Huddersfield. A lot of love for him but don't think he's a great manager, nor what we need right now.

Totally agree. Ridiculous suggestion bringing Powell back in. If we are making appts solely based on emotion as clearly this initial post is doing ~ let's bring in Kinsella or Scotty Parker and have Jacko back as a number two.
I'd be reluctant based on his first half season with us. He did not have his own players and we plummeted down the table, this included the notorious Dagenham and Redbridge game.

He has learnt alotsince then butits a big risk!
This squad is much better than the one we had in 10/11 IMHO.
Regardless, it’s unlikely CP would come at present. Alex Dyer is a different story - believe he would be keen to be involved.
I wouldn't rely on a shit spreadsheet to tell me that the two main targets should be Powell or Bowyer. Some bridges need building with the fans. If Rodwell and Scott don't realise we are just as pissed off with them, they need to and that makes getting the manager right essential. Those two names represent our last two successful managers who stood out amongst a sea of dross. I think Rodwell and Scott will dismiss this because they are idiots who think they know things they don't IMO.

I am sure Sir Chris waits on a telephone call.
