  • Been described as the best batting pitch of the series so far so England have to be very happy with those two early wickets.

Interesting (or not) that Nick Knight and Graeme Swann have joined the commentary team…

    33-3, 8.5 overs

    Patidar 5 (15) c Duckett b Hartley

Wicket for the spinner in his first over. Bizarre shot choice from the batsman.

Jadeja comes in at No. 5 ahead of Sarfaraz who was expected to bat there on debut. Early panic from the hosts?
  • First session drinks…

    39-3, 12 overs

    Rohit 19 (33)
    Jadeja 3 (7)

Rohit dropped by Root at slip off the bowling of Hartley.

  • Ahh Joe you’ve got to be catching that! Nearly 49/4
  • Anderson has Rohit LBW but overturned on review. Little inside edge saves him
  • Rohit given out lbw by Joel Wilson but reviewed immediately and replay shows an inside edge so he survives.

That is one we might live to regret.
  • Turned into quite a frustrating session
  • 93-3 at lunch. Still, given the three wickets, just about our session but Rohit, with an undefeated 52 (74) is slightly ominous. The promotion of Jadeja to 5 (24* off 44) does give India greater balance but with two debutants to come there is a possibility of a "bang, bang, bang" should we break this partnership quickly after lunch.

    India’s to lose

Well that didn't materialise. Jadeja moves onto 51* (100) and with Rohit on 79* (132), India progress, risk free post lunch, to 150-3 off 44 overs. This is the highest Indian partnership (117) of the series.
  • India 185-3 off 52 overs at tea. Rohit and Jadeja partnership of 152. Their session, with no wickets to fall for the first time in a session in the Series, on what is a placid wicket, by a country mile

    Rohit 97* (154)
    Jadeja 68* (126)
  • Rohit reaches his ton off 156 balls. Time for him to get out now!

  • 12 unsuccessful reviews for us from 15 in the Series to date. Given that reviews were meant for obvious mistakes, it appears that it isn't the Umpires making those!
  • Really got to hope for a cluster of wickets as it's looking ominous at the minute.
  • Got him! Wood bounces Rohit out - caught at short mid-wicket by Stokes for 131 (196)

    237-4
  • A no-review that would have had Jadeja. Ah well

Sarfaraz looking ominously useful. Red-ball specialist too. Suspect he'll be around for a while
  • Despite only taking one wicket between them, our two young spinners, given the conditions and their relative inexperience, have bowled quite well. Root probably not so especially as he should, in theory, as a finger spinner, have a bit more control than Rehan.
  • It's almost as if Stokes and McCullum have told Sarfaraz to go out and play as he does in domestic cricket

    50 off just 48 balls
  • Watching Sarfaraz bat so aggressively you might think it's hard to see why he's such a failure in white-ball cricket, but the fact he's hit numerous one-bounce fours already might be a clue. He's comfortable hitting shots that wouldn't clear boundary fielders. Yes, he just hit a six, but it only crept over - he's not a power hitter, but a strokeplayer
  • Jadeja gets himself yet another run out!!! Sarfaraz sold down the river for 62 off 66

  • Jadeja gets the single he was looking for when running Sarfaraz out  off 198 balls

    315-5 off 82 overs
