He posted on X implying that supporters can't grasp the reason why Alfie May was sold. I responded calling him a patronising cnut. Then his post disappeared.
Some supporters Cant, what he saying thats not true.
I didn't say he said something that wasn't true. He was attacking supporters who didn't want May sold saying they didn't understand that he was sold to free up funds.
Saying attacking is quite strong, if I relay information to the employees I manage and some of them don’t grasp it, and If I then mention to someone else that they don’t grasp it , am I attacking my employees or merely commenting on an actual fact? I am not a cheerleader for CM by any means, I have no dog in this fight
I personally feel that my football club are being run more professionally than it has been for18 years. So to call him a cunt when he has been fundamental in achieving this seems a bit strong. alfie wasn’t wanted by jones so is he a cunt as well.
My brother came with me to the Bolton match, and he said if we win this I'm going to Reading. Success brings in the fans, we're both doddering along to the game on Saturday. Not only if you build it they will come, but if you win games they will come.
My conclusion from that interview is that Charlie is a mercenary businessman who’s loyalties are elsewhere (Oxford) so don’t expect him to be with us for very long but he’ll do a good job while he is with us so that he gets what he really wants

Hard to see there was a lack of professionalism in 2011/12. Evidence suggests otherwise.
Is fairly standard business guff from Charlie, highlight was him originally putting the blame on the appleton hire on the ''football staff'' so Andy Scott, before in the next breath reverting to ''We'' as owners made a mistake
as well as defining Appleton's communication skills as '' not his strongest aspect''
Charlton’s Technical Director Andy Scott led the recruitment process, supported by Managing Director James Rodwell and Simon Lenagan, Sporting Director of the club’s owners Global Football Partners.
Scott commented: “The appointment of Michael comes following an in-depth recruitment process. We had a clear idea of the type of person we wanted, the way they work and how they manage.
“When speaking to the various candidates that we met, Michael demonstrated very clearly that he would have the ability to take the current group and mould them into a successful team.
“He has worked at the very top level so he understands what high standards are required to win. He is a leader on the grass, as well as in the dressing room, has a winning mentality and has had many positive and negative experiences as a manager that have shaped him into the coach that we believe will be the best person for the job.
“He is a coach who knows what it takes to get a team promoted. He has a track record of working with, and developing, young players, which is vital given our outstanding academy. In addition, he has experience working in a modern set-up where his responsibilities are on managing a group of players and getting the best out of them on the pitch.”
At least he's got a new negative experience to add to his repertoire for next time
A lot to like and agree with in the interview but a lot that I don't agree with and it still seems that CM is marking his own homework.
He does speak well but I'd expect that from a professional PR man.
Can't agree that northern fans have different expectations of owners because of how they were set up a 140 odd years ago. In any case the football league when founded wasn't only in the north west, as CM claimed, as there were a lot of midlands team.
The analysis of how US investors might see the EPL and EFL as a cheaper and better alternative to the MSL was interesting but seemed as aimed as much at our owners than anything else.
I agree that a big opportunity was missed when setting up the women's game when not having regional franchises but then who would have paid the bills? I also think CM was wrong to say that the money for the women's team was coming out of the men's teams. As the owners are losing something between £9m and £6m a year according to CM's figures they are covering the losses of both teams, the distaff side being a smaller loss than the spear side.
Appleton was clearly a mistake and he eventually owned that as part of the management team but started out trying to push that onto the technical team. I struggle to believe he wasn't front and centre in appointing an ex-Oxford manager.
I think he was, as he has been before, very generous to himself and his team when they took over late in the summer as if that was the only reason for the disaster of last season.
I'm all for reaching out to other communities and potential fans but I feel it is a bit simplistic to brand ourselves as a "street club" because some of our players come from the big South London estates and have African or Caribbean heritage. A lot of our players don't come from that background and I think people from the area, of whatever heritage, will pick a team to support for a variety of reasons, having a couple of Jamaican internationals isn't going to suddenly see every person from that background switch to following Charlton. Being in the championship or even premier league would be a much bigger factor but I think CM and everyone else knows that. And so far this season the club is moving towards promotion so credit due.
IIRC correctly the income is projected to be £13.7m and the spend £19.5m so we are still looking at losing around £6m. How that compares to previous seasons I'm not sure.
Finally, credit to CM for using the correct expression, "the proof of the pudding is in the eating". I wish he'd explain to a few others that that is the saying.

Were they still professional when they sold to Roland,

Leaving aside that that was in 2014, Slater and Jimenez were scum, which all of us who worked there at senior levels came to recognise. But they left the running of the club to Varney and Kavanagh until the Cash ran out, so the club was run professionally in 2011/12. I do not think any management that appointed Michael Appleton and finished in the club’s lowest position since 1926 is yet in a place to lick the boots of the people who ran the club in the Premier League, or from 2006-2011. Of course that can change. Let’s hope it does, but it hasn’t yet, whatever positive signs there are.
Possibly are fit to lick the boots in some cases but only if the boots in question had recently stepped in a particularly fresh and foul smelling dog turd.
That said Keohane has now left taking the most deserving tongue with him and the jury is still out on some of the chums and their decision making which does appear to either have miraculously improved or been allocated more appropriately to the more competent members of the team.

Anyway, what I want to know, is who Return of the SE7 called a cnut, if Methven isn't on X?

Lol. OK, seeing as the post disappeared, maybe it wasn't posted by CM but it was a quote by him. Can't remember exact words but to me it was patronising. Don't like the bloke, don't trust him and I've come across too many of his kind over a long and varied career.
Jesus christ, look at the squad investment. Look at the infrastructural investment.
Why can't we just give it until Christmas and see where we are, both on and off the pitch, before calling the the CEO a c*** on his X account that don't exist, under a post on X that also now don't exist? 🙄

I do apologise. I didn't realise that calling someone a patronising cnut undermined the investment in the team. In future I'll be very complimentary and issue plaudits which should sustain us beyond Christmas and boost our push for promotion.

It doesn't, it just makes you look like a prize helmet

No need to apologise. You just show you don't know what the hell you are talking about.
That was a great interview and I'm glad Methven and the owners are on board.
So many playground dwellers on this one.
Probably not able to take in the whole interview. It did take over an hour of focus after all.
I don't think we have to agree with everything he says, but he said it well. I don't get a feeling of the incompetence we saw under Sandgaard with this lot. Appleton didn't work out but he wasn't a terrible appointment per seat at the time. Jones was always a risk IMO. I had doubts about him as he seemed a bit mad at Southampton. He is a manager you need to let get on with it and the owners have done and we seem to be seeing the results. Maybe we learned that the manager has to have the biggest say in who comes in and out.
In terms of what he said about us not being a family club. I sort of agree with him. All clubs are family clubs but some more so than others. We are, and I think he went there, a community club. Probably one of the top community clubs in the country.
My conclusion from that interview is that Charlie is a mercenary businessman who’s loyalties are elsewhere (Oxford) so don’t expect him to be with us for very long but he’ll do a good job while he is with us so that he gets what he really wants
A mercenary businessman no more mercenary than football players and most people in a job. All that matters is motivation to do the job you are employed to do well - while employed.
My conclusion is he knows his job, is intelligent understands the business and will protect and polish his own reputation. Nothing that conflicts with getting Charlton promoted.
FWIW I made him bang on with the observation about our quite woolly ‘brand’ as a family club, antithesis to Millwall, sleeping giant… or whatever we’ve been telling ourselves since the Premier League days. Everyone says they’re a family club - so what?
There’s absolutely no harm in crisping up the messaging around exciting street footballers, outstanding youth talent, the links to Jamaica.
It’s a genuine USP at this level, and we can all rally around it fairly easily can’t we?
Seriously guys you've given me a good laugh. I'm a nobhead (prize helmet) and a nonce (playground dweller). I have the attention span of a gnat as I can't watch a video over an hour long, and I've somehow dissed the whole ownership without even mentioning them. Sums me up very well. Is one of you my ex wife?

Agreed - it’s great that families feel comfortable bringing their kids etc but that should be a given in this day and age - if we can encourage more of the local community by hilighting some aspects of our academy, why not ? CM’s statement that we have the biggest catchment area in English football was also some stat !!!

Excellent in sight into football finance , 19 mill to run the whole of Charlton over 12 months and yet people still expect owners to spend millions on players and give them what they want .. CM speaks well and is very knowledgeable and the club under this ownership is in very good hands ..
Jesus christ, look at the squad investment. Look at the infrastructural investment.

As the saying goes, a c@nt isn’t just for Christmas.
Henry Irving made some really excellent points, and tbh, I think it's a lot harder than the people in charge realise to tap into the market of the surrounding areas.
The reality is, Charlton just isn't an easy team to support. I have a group of old mates who are a mixture of Somali, Pakistani and Kenyan, and they can't understand why I support Charlton. They have gone to games, and have all said that if we got to the Premier League, they'd get season tickets, but that's not to support Charlton, but rather see quality football.
People who have no family ties to Charlton, are a very hard sell for Charlton. We are arguably the most underachieving London professional football club at present (not even sure its an argument tbh) there's a real lack of interest in our level of football. There's a lot of societal pressure to follow what's cool, what's in, and Charlton just isn't. It's a lot more appealing to a fan with 0 family ties to Charlton, to support another London club.
So I think they can come up with as many ideas as they want, unless we are very good at football, it's extremely unlikely we will be seeing our ground anywhere near at capacity, and even if we do, they will be fairweather fans.
If I was them, I'd be essentially be investing any single amount of money they can into the first team, and think about anything else as a secondary objective, as only when we are good at football, will the community incentives work and be worthwhile doing so.
We could have the best match day experience in the world, if the football on the pitch isn't top flight we won't grow as a fanbase.
I think it’s way too early to say the way the club is being run is a complete success. We’ve just come off the worst season for 90 odd years. They hired Appleton, the ex-Oxford Utd manager, which worryingly CM is still trying to distance himself from. CM doesn’t have a great record in football, he has the unenviable record of presiding over the worst league finishes for every club he’s been involved in. Luckily we now have a decent manager, I hate to think where we’d be if NJ had said no, like so many other highly rated managers did at the time.
He may spin that we are actually a ‘street club’ and that’s how you unlock 40% extra revenue, that is probably what he’s telling the owners. That sort of spin doesn’t sound like a sound, long term plan. As usual it’s going to be a gamble on promotion or things will unravel quickly. Finger crossed!
