I don’t get the Andy Scott bashing. I know January wasn’t a huge success but he got rid of the dead wood.
He comes to the club with an excellent CV and experience. Fans moan when we hire people with no experience (Martin) and slate people with experience.
Sadly, our squad is a mess due to the past two summers, and it will take a few windows to sort out.
If we accept the transformation needs 2 or 3 summers and that is the club's message, then we either can go along with it or vote with our feet.
Or we can support our club regardless because we are loyal supporters. Anyway can you find another appropriate thread for your thoughts please or start your own thread? This is the SUMMER TRANSFER RUMOURS thread.
Really not convinced it requires 3 windows (18 months) to build something to get out of this league. 7 or 8 good signings and decent manager could work.
Again, only way to 'flip' the club is to make it more valuable, only way to make it more valuable is to get us promoted, and then promoted again or at the very least challenging the top 6 in the Championship.
If you have a problem with them trying to flip the club in a few years time because that's what's happened, then that's only a good thing?!
Agree, but what makes you think this lot are any better than their predecessors ?
They might end up losing a lot of money and we might end up in another crisis.
No problem with them flipping the club, but that will need a plan, good management and investment.
What they have is a loss making football operation, so making it valuable will need a team that will fill the Valley.
Because the people involved day to day are football people.
RD wasnt a football person he was a politician that decided he could do football differently with a network of clubs that shared information and players on the cheap, and put in place people like KM and TD who weren't suited to run/work for a club like us.
The less said about both ESI groups the better, none of them were actually competent to run a bath, let alone a football club.
TS put people like his son and his wife/girlfriend/fuck buddy in charge of many things and didn't see fit to hire anyone else for the SMT until very late on in his tenure.
This lot have people who have ran clubs before, who are ex professional footballers, ex managers, people who have been there and done that.
They have been here 4 weeks, that's nowhere near enough time to judge if they're doing to be a success or not.
But fuck me if the whining on here doesn't look like a bunch of entitled, spoilt brats that throw toys out of the pram constantly, it's tiresome.
I'd like nothing more than for them to come out, lay out a 5 year plan in front of us all, like the wankers beforehand, but then actually manage to follow through with it, but it's not going to work like that.
I'd also like them to just go and spunk £15m up the wall on players for us to absolutely walk the league and give us a really strong foundation for next season, but again it's not going to work like that.
But hey let's all sit on a football forum and constantly moan and complain and vent our spleens every day because that's going to make all the difference isn't it?
Realistically, we all know it will take time.
Maybe some of us have seen this all too often at Charlton hence the cynicism.
Tiresome it is.
3rd summer window in a row where we've had owner(s) indicating they want promotion but doing much about it. I know I start my rantings earlier than most but it's been the same since Sandgaard properly took over. Lots of talk but little action (admittedly this lot have at least brought in 3 or 4 decent players) and posters still saying "but there's still 2 weeks to go until the window shuts" ignoring we've had 10 weeks before now to assemble a decent squad. Last season Ipswich strengthened well, this season Pompey did.....and look where they are in the table.
I'm just looking forward to the January window.....at least that one only lasts 31 days !!
Pompey you sure … if we had brought in any of the Pompey signings fans would have slated them .. any clubs can bring 8/9 free players And make it look good but .. the better teams wait and bring in quality
Bolton were in League 2, 3 windows ago They assembled a great squad, for a pittance and now they are favourites to go up It CAN be done If you sign hungry, good players. The best in your division or the division below. I'm not sure waiting for Championship players is the way forward Especially as we are desperate for fit, ambitious players. What ambition leaving the Championship for Charlton, unless you are out of contract?

Think there’s been some crossed lines of communication here.
Scott said in the latest interview we were competing with Championship clubs for players. Not necessarily that the players themselves are from Championship clubs.
That could refer to Premier League loans or talented L1/L2 players…

They've also had just the one Manager since League One - He was hired in 2020 - We've had Bowyer | Adkins | Jackson | Garner | Holden in that time frame.
Then you've got the longevity of the two squads... Bolton still have depth spread across those four years - Us on the other hand, we seem to keep changing Managers and replacing the signings made by their predecessors each time.
How do you build a winning / settled team with such a turnover of personnel? - Already there are (hopefully satire) comments about May being another Ajose
It’s pretty certain Peterborough are looking for £1.25 million as a minimum. Way too much for a 29 year old league one player despite his goal record. He didn’t really cut it in The Championship and at 29 he has no resale value. Nombe by way of comparison is 24 and on the way up. We’ve had a bid of £500k knocked back and I doubt our ceiling is very much higher than that. I think both might well go this window but in my opinion we won’t be the destination for either. I’ve always thought that it would take three windows to get our squad close enough for a promotion push and I still do.
They may be looking for that but they have to sell him this window or his value is a fraction at the next one, I’m sure L1 teams are playing the waiting game.
Of course it isn't a good thing if not addressed but it could be if our shortcomings are addressed before the window closes. There are lots of sides in this league you can go on runs against but they are competent enough doing the basics if youare short in a characteristic like scoring goals. This it will take time narrative which is creeping in is understandable but what does that actually mean? Have we given up on this season? If nothing happens between now and the end of the month I might but I am still reasonably optimistic.
Hmmm. I think it a shame that how a player leaves a Club should sully his reputation with the fans if overall he has been a force for good.
There are also plenty of players who have questionable attitude that we might sign but don't know that yet. In Lyle's case, we do, but did he ever let us down on the pitch? It's hard to say he's not what we need right now, because if he's fit and ready to play, he's a goal threat and absolutely is.
Spoke to a Forest fan the other day who knew how Taylor left us and understood why we would be sceptical about a return, but he was complimentary about how he had conducted himself in and around their squad when he knew he wasn't in contention for a berth in the team. Professional was the word he used. It's one view of course.
Much as I dislike Taylor for his AWOL fiasco, and wouldn't really like him back personally... IF he was to come back, it wouldn't take too many goals, and promotion to have people chanting his name again...imo
I doubt it's even up for suggestion on Taylor to be honest, however i am torn. I can never forgive him for what he did, however would i be willing to take him back if he was to provide the same levels of performance that he did for us? without question. Fickle people aren't we
i don't get it - 1.25 million is too much for a prolific goalscoring 29 year old since when? The guy will be at his peak right now, probably got at least another 4 years in him.
Oh but we should deffo go for 33 year old Taylor who has barely kicked a ball for 2 years... makes loads of sense that.

in theory yes but not with the squad we’re starting from

It is too much for us. If you are going to pay that much, you want a chance of getting at least some of it back. I can understand that. I don't think we should go for Taylor but he isn't costing 1.25m.

2021: Bolton 03 | Charlton 5
2022: Bolton 07 | Charlton 12
2023: Bolton 11 | Charlton 9
Those who are still here from making their League debut in 2021/22;
Kanu | Elerewe | Blackett-Taylor | Campbell | Kirk

My pet peeve is idiots who boo every ex player who turns up at the Valley but he is one who truly deserves it, so many other strikers I would prefer.
JCH
Ladapo
Cosgrove
Domble
Lyle Taylor
Although I'm sure we have the budget for any of them

Something we seem incapable of achieving...🙄
