Summer Transfer Rumours - Deadline Day p446

I am very pleased for Ryan that he seems to have got over his injuries, and massive credit to whoever in the medical department figured out that it was down to a muscle imbalance. I bet Ryan wishes he met them 5 years ago.7

I wouldn't be surprised to see players like Thomas, Kane or Edun (who we nearly signed before IIRC) being targeted - players who can cover multiple positions.
There needs to be some specialists in the squad of course but if the budget is an issue then going for a CB who can also play FB or a midfielder who can also play up front etc etc seems a likely strategy to (try and) finesse more depth.

Hadn't heard that explanation before - what's the full story?Chunes said:I am very pleased for Ryan that he seems to have got over his injuries, and massive credit to whoever in the medical department figured out that it was down to a muscle imbalance. I bet Ryan wishes he met them 5 years ago.2 -
That’s a terrible idea unless we’re swapping Inniss for a versatile player who can play CB. We need a quality one to replace Thomas, then the other 3 is sufficient.thenewbie said:I wouldn't be surprised to see players like Thomas, Kane or Edun (who we nearly signed before IIRC) being targeted - players who can cover multiple positions.

Too early to say for sure, but he does look very promising. We'll need to see how he does when up against the better sides, but the omens are good.Southbank said:

Agreed. I'm absolutely not advocating in favour of it, merely guessing what I think the strategy will be. I don't think it's going to work but I'm not the one making the decisions.cafcfan1990 said:

You might well want 5 center backs. Especially if your going to play 3 even occasionally. It would make sense for at least one to be able to play full back. You might well want 1 of your 4 fullbacks able to play both sides.thenewbie said:I wouldn't be surprised to see players like Thomas, Kane or Edun (who we nearly signed before IIRC) being targeted - players who can cover multiple positions.

These are the type of details in our recruitment that have been missing in the past few years.0 -
I honestly thought the situation was as hopeless as Aneke, so pleasantly surprised by his amount of minutes this season.Chunes said:I am very pleased for Ryan that he seems to have got over his injuries, and massive credit to whoever in the medical department figured out that it was down to a muscle imbalance. “We’ve got to be respectful as there is still a game to play but once we get that out of the way we’ll ramp up the conversations and start to meet players – whether we get them into the training ground to show them our facilities, or take them to The Valley, or we meet them off-site to keep them away from anyone who might be having a look at who we're trying to sign!"
ok boys, go park our stakeout van in front of Nando’s Bexleyheath0 -

Deji to come back to the squad or another season out on loan?0

He has improved so much over the last few months I would seriously consider sending him back to Bromley, even if they go up.kodfish said:Deji to come back to the squad or another season out on loan?
The worst place for any youngster is that 3rd or 4th choice hole, that Henry has fallen into and Morgan had occupied for a long time.
You end up not playing, for anyone, for months. Bar the odd cameo here and there.4 -
We’ll have 4 or 5 senior centre backs, but I don’t see Ness, Mitchell and Elerewe taking up 3 of those spots. Only way it happens is if we have an owner really pushing the academy and cutting costs.kodfish said:Deji to come back to the squad or another season out on loan?
As soon as there’s an injury/suspension or two you could be playing two young CBs together. As experienced as Inniss is he has looked better alongside Hector rather than being the more senior CB.1 -

Holden is set to bring Ryan Inniss back into his squad after the former Palace defender served his suspension.Jonniesta said:Looks like the Exodus has begun. We are never to see Bonne, Penney or Kilkenny in a Charlton shirt again.
I've cried so many tears that somehow none are coming with this announcement.

I think Inniss is very inexperienced for his age. He had played less league games than Albie Morgan before this season.Scoham said:

We're all thinking that the likes of Clare | Inniss are being left out because we're not renewing them next season.
When the reality becomes clear come August, that the team we're seeing today is all we can afford

Agree, even more reason to avoiding building the squad in that way.Cafc43v3r said:

Hopefully the walking red card is being moved on.3

The OS says he’s been left out to avoid a ban next season, so it doesn’t look like it.4
-
Who’s being released by Premier League academies? That should be our first list to investigate.4

Although he’d maybe have trouble finding a new club if he were already missing the first 7 games so may be us doing him a favour.Scoham said:The OS says he’s been left out to avoid a ban next season, so it doesn’t look like it.4 -
Stockton must be main target for next season if we want to stay up.4

Alfie May?So many needed it’s hard to know who or care that much2

7 goals in his last four matches…0 -
Supposedly May is going to Wrexham. But we definitely need a striker of that ilk.1

Do we, I mean I suppose any team in this league would. But we scored the 5th highest amount of goals this season in the league.MarcusH26 said:Supposedly May is going to Wrexham. But we definitely need a striker of that ilk.
Should have been more enough to get us into the top 6, but we didn’t because we couldn’t keep a clean sheet and we conceded a shed load of goals. We definitely need someone to replace JRS and potential Leaburn’s goals for sure. But if we do, our problem is not at the front end of the pitch.1 -
Have Bonne / Stockley to replace from the start of the season as well thoughFishCostaFortune said:

Not just Rak-Sakyi and potentially Leaburn now1 -
I think a striker is definitely needed regardless of what happens with Leaburn , I'd be looking at loaning out Kanu to League 2 to get some experience and obviously it's hard to know what the Aneke situation will be.3
-
This is true, and in my mind Aneke as well as we really can’t go into next season with him as an option. So a lot of work to be done for sure.ForeverAddickted said:

Least it won’t be hard to replace Bonne/Stockley’s goals
.
Either way I just don’t want to spend another transfer window reading loads of ‘where are the goals coming from’ sort of comments.
