The Chairman is a Tory party donor, who arranged a loan for the former PM and failed to disclose crucial information when interviewed for the job. The Director General is a former Conservative politician.
What I will say on Lineker is was happy enough to go to Qatar where we shouldn’t have been as a footballing nation while thing was a farce and ridiculous.

1) He is a sports presenter so as I understand it hasn't broken impartiality rules as they don't apply in his case.
2) What he said was 100% on the money. We are approaching Enoch Powell territory but no one seems to give a shit

I was down in East Kent last week and after seeing the figures of Albanians being the highest number of people attempting to cross the channel by small boats and dingies I had the opportunity to Listen to the views of professionals that have to deal with the result of gangs that make easy money by exploitation of people. Let's just say that the demands of the Albanians tell you that they have been sold a story of milk and honey plus houses once they reach the UK.
This is a far right government that Margaret Thatcher would be proud of BUT this is a major problem that Labour will have to deal with if/when elected.
The UK and France need to tackle this issue together.
Apologies for my ignorance, but can anyone give me the context of how GL's tweet came to be questioned in the HoC? Was it during a debate on the bill, or facilitated by some other mechanism, and were MP's voicing concerns about it doing so representing concerns of, or offense taken by, constituents?
I didn't pay it much attention at first, but it's got very big on us all of a sudden and I'm not privy to GL's contract terms. If he hasn't breached them, he shouldn't be suspended is my simplistic take on it, and I'm guessing those coming out in solidarity hold the view that he hasn't.

Sugar is a presenter on the BBC - Lineker is a presenter on the BBC. One made a statement about Trade Union activity and in particular the leader of the RMT - the other made a statement on how he saw the latest government policy.
I agree - neither has anything to do with The Apprentice or MOTD - they are both examples of a so-called breach of impartiality. Sugar isn't a news or current affairs reporter, neither is Lineker, and I have no issue whatsoever with Sugar's or Lineker's comments as they have f*ck all to do with the jobs they do for the BBC.
This is clearly a ridiculous situation, and the outcry is very understandable. It does strike me however that if this was a case of a BBC presenter with right leaning political views (under whatever form of contract) comparing Labour policies and rhetoric as similar to Naziism then many of the same people up in arms about Lineker’s censorship would be calling for that right wing presenter or to be similarly censored.
I think people, on both sides of the spectrum, care less about “freedom of speech” and more about ensuring that speech is only permitted to say things they agree with.

Its board is packed with Tories doing favours for their mates now - as this episode shows.
It's effectively a state broadcaster that is supposed to be neutral, and it would tend to not be overly critical of the government of the day, by default, whether left or right. At the same time they should, arguably, take into account the mood of the nation. For example they put the Labour government under a lot of pressure at the time of the Gulf War. They were also openly critical of Jeremy Corbyn when he was the Labour leader, perhaps believing they were reflecting the mood of the nation, but were surprised when Labour won 40% of the vote to the Tories 42% in 2017. (Personally I think with someone like Yvette Cooper as leader Labour would have won easily, but that's another matter).
This is the first time that the BBC has appeared to be properly hamstrung by the government of the day outside of a war situation. They do seem to have a bit of a grip over its political coverage at the moment.

Was it not the other way for many years before? And right leaning people felt similarly aggrieved with their stance then.
Just like the govt having a firmer approach to illegal immigration now. Go back to the early Blair years when the govt openly implemented what was effectively an open door policy on immigration which a lot of people also felt was a bad move.
The concerns of some of the general public are not centred purely on current numbers we may or may not be taking, it’s the compounded impact of years of immigration targeting a multicultural society that really has not and does not work in a lot of deprived areas. It’s the impact of that on local infrastructure and public services. Now immigration is not the only factor, it’s years of underfunding too, of course. But when joe bloggs can never get a doctors appointment and when they do the room is full off people clearly not originally from these shores, the perception becomes ingrained in the eyes of those people.
The thing about this is Lineker has never hidden his political beliefs before and has regularly tweeted about them. Clearly the Nazi connotations of this latest one are deemed a step too far for those up the hierarchy.

It may be my bias but I see the BBC as packed with right wingers like Andrew Neil (previously) Fiona Bruce, Laura Kuenssberg, Alan Sugar and Karren Brady, Jeremy Clarkson and many others. Not to mention the BBC Director General being a Tory doner and helping to facilitate money for Boris Johnson. I probably missed the bit where Ainsley Harriot raised millions for Jeremy Corbyn.

People defending the BBC decision on Linekar but will ignore Alan Sugar or Andrew Neil preaching right wing doctrine shows how partisan the BBC has become.

He isn’t. However - and I’m furious with myself for forgetting it when I bought into the excuses from former BBC Trust chair Richard Ayre on Thursday - before he left, his personal Twitter output was an absolute tirade of bile. Not just right wing in opinion, but really aggressive. He was one of those who bullied the journalist Carole Cadwalladr when she exposed Aaron Banks, (and has recently defeated him in court). All this while he was supposedly the BBC’s heavy hitter, entrusted with challenging govt. Ministers. It was much worse than Lineker because of his role, and the fact that he was doing this, like, all the time.
Then he went off to GB News if you recall, as Chairman, but he quickly through his toys out of the pram when he discovered that it was basically a low-rent Fox. Now he’s on C4. And curiously, I don’t recall him popping up on my feed since he left Geebees.
Our political class are in the main so craven that moral leadership falls to footballers. It's not just Lineker here, but Marcus Rashford on feeding hungry kids. I didn't expect that football would step up to the plate like this and a few years ago it would have been unthinkable - but if we ask that our Academy lads and players do things like give back, and understand they are in a fortunate position, and visit schools, hospitals, hospices, and support people less fortunate than themselves - this comes with the responsibility of speaking up when there are plans to target those who are less fortunate. In the past this wouldn't have been seen as politically partisan - it used to be that compassion wasn't something that was limited to people on the left/centre, but culture war stuff is all there is now from the current Tory party and their bosses in the press.
Lineker is a centrist, not even a lefty, so it is beyond bizarre that the BBC have decided to bow to the govt and the Daily Mail/Telegraph on this. It's like there's another agenda at work here (destroying it from within). It shows how far right wing we've come. I love how some people above are saying Ian Hislop is a leftie - he's an old fashioned high Tory, he just sounds like he's on the left because he criticises stuff wherever he sees it (and to be fair the current government have done their best to make satire dead). HIGNFY is the last satirical programme left on the channel as far as I can see, they've axed all the rest. Unless you count Question Time with its in-built right wing bias.
