I heard on the radio tonight that there is a real security threat when using Deep seek. Lots of warnings like this around.
DeepSeek AI will fully compromise your digital security and personal privacy. You will expose all passwords, usernames, and accounts across every device you own. The Chinese government has unrestricted access to all your data, including your credentials, personal files, messages, and financial information.
DeepSeek actively records every keystroke, allowing them to capture everything you type—passwords, private messages, and sensitive information in real time. Once installed, their software exploits access to other devices on your network, spreading surveillance and control far beyond the original device.
Exactly the same as Copilot, and any other AI that you allow access to your system for the purposes of 'learning your habits'. It's spyware on steroids.

Interesting to see that Deep Seek - the lower-cost, Chinese-developed alternative to ChatGPT - has caused some pearl clutching among US tech stocks today
More efficient models mean you can do more with given hardware, so I can't see why tech companies would stop buying Nvidia's GPUs: at a minimum, it means AI companies can re-train their models 10 times more frequently.
Still, I hope it will dampen some of the AI hype.
I had a quick go on the DeepSeek website and it feels very similar to ChatGPT, with the odd mistake or inconsistency:
"the Lancaster bomber could carry up to 14,000 lbs (6,350 kg) of bombs, including the 12,000 lb 'Tallboy' and 22,000 lb 'Grand Slam' earthquake bombs".
So, not much difference in quality, just vastly cheaper.
I want to uncover the masks I am currently wearing, the roles I am playing and the illusions I am believing. Please guide me through this process by asking me ten reflective questions, one at a time, to help me recognise the stories I am telling myself. After I answer the tenth question, please step into the role of my higher self and analyse my responses. Identify the top ten negative patterns in my life, and the top positive behaviours I can embrace to grow. Be direct and truthful, tough love is welcome. Provide me with some affirmations to support my growth; and actionable steps to change my behaviour and embody my authentic self. Include a message of encouragement from my highest self to celebrate how far I have come on my journey and to inspire me to continue to grow in the right direction.
Only use it if you're prepared for some interesting answers about yourself.

It will basically be this, but without the changes forced onto Microsoft by the public outcry: https://www.zdnet.com/article/microsoft-announces-sweeping-changes-to-controversial-recall-feature-for-windows-11-copilot-pcs/
