Glad Bairstow made up for those dropped catches with a massive score of 12.

    On his home ground.

    In good conditions.
Don’t forget he caught the just stop oil bloke.

Keep swinging the bat at deliveries that should be left.
Giving the slip fielders catching practice
I don't understand the logic chasing a wide one from a bowler who's stock delivery is a swinging ball at the beginning of the day.
Stokes and McCullum said it - Bazball is about giving the batsmen the freedom to play the way they want to play without fear of recrimination. That is why we had that mad couple of hours in the last Test when we should have ground the Aussie quicks into the ground given the absence of Lyon. There are no guidelines which is why a classical batsman like Root says to his mate in the dressing room "I think I'm going to go out and ramp the first ball I face". And does just that. There is no evaluation of the bigger picture. It's an arrogance that worked against most sides but will not do so at the best Test team in the world who will keep coming. Soak it up when they need to and be aggressive when the time is right to do so.

Imagine having a 22 year old spinner that could come in and put the ball on the spot from the off. Actually, imagine that we could find a spinner of any age who could do just that!

Isn't Jack Carson reputed to be this?

England will, at some point this morning, be begging for Moeen Ali to score a Test fifty. That's what it will come to; that's what our illusory batting aptitude has led us to. And you know what? He'll be out for about 8. I mean, unless...
On 8, he goes for a scything drive. Does he nick it to 2nd slip? Nay, it flies for 4 along the carpet. He's gonna score a ton here lads

There's a consistent trend in young spinners getting called up and then their technique/confidence gets completely destroyed in this country.

I don't know enough about Carson but reputations don't get you to bowl in Test cricket if that is the case. Selectors do. I see Carson only has 14 FC wickets this season. There again, who did we send to Pakistan? Will Jacks who has 29 career First Class wickets and has taken 2 wickets this season.

Murphy was sent to India. He took 14 wickets at 25.20 against the best players of spin in the world.

Leuth is the next kid of the block.
I've heard he's made of sterner stuff.

That's because they aren't being given a chance to hone their skills in the CC. Start games at the beginning of April and finish half of them by the end of May and you reap what you sow. That is the reason why 44 of the top 46 bowlers in the country are seamers and the only two that aren't are the war horses that are Harmer and Leach. Harmer isn't English and the latter got to learn his trade on those bunsen burners at Somerset.

Moeen Ali is 36, has played hundreds of times for England, and has just today worked out how to bat in Tests

It's so very sad to see Stokes struggle so much physically. Nobody could say that the guy hasn't given every ounce for his country but his body really is falling apart due to that very fact.

You were saying? He gave one chance doing that so decided to repeat the dose just in case.

Bairstow up the order is not the solution when he can't bat down the order.  His keeping is average at best. Time to recall a wicket keeper who might not score as many as bairstow but wouldn't drop catches which will let the Aussies get away from us........time for billings

seriously, foakes has to come in for the next test

Much as I think it should happen, I can’t see it happening. Seems like they double down on supporting their favourite players.

Billings makes Bairstow look like Adam Gilchrist. He has batted 25 times this season and has a top score of 36 and has been dropped from the Kent CC side.

It should be Foakes but, as I've said before, coaches have this habit of giving as many chances as they can to players who they want to prove themselves right and as few as possible to those that might prove them wrong. England confirmed last summer that the next two on the rank are Jamie Smith and that other Ollie Robinson. Smith has Foakes in front of him at Surrey but has scored 484 runs at an average of 44.00 at a SR of 61.03 whereas Robinson has scored 734 runs (and 3rd top run scorer in Division 2) at an average of 66.72 and an incredible SR of 87.17

Murphy's figures of 4-0-4-0 are quite unique. 4 runs conceded in 4 overs and not a maiden in sight.

Woakes has seen Ali (and the rest of England) batting and decided to play Test cricket in the same style

74-4 off 23.1 overs in the session

I would like to think that Stokes will now go into "Rambo mode" but he looks as if he can hardly move let alone swing his bat in anger. Time for the physios to earn their corn at lunch.

slag off the batsmen all you like, the primary reason we are losing this series is abysmal catching, especially in the slips and bad wicket keeping .. Bairstow needs to lose a couple of stone, that would improve his agility many times over

Root and Baistow dropped catches and they are batsmen (batters).
