Tyreece Campbell - June 2025 - called up for Jamaica again (p34)

Back to the player he was under Holden.
Appleton destroyed his confidence.
Tonight he was taking players on, putting good crosses in and winning tackles. Couple of shots straight at the keeper he could have done better with but so much potential.25 -

I know Lua Lua didn’t do much on the pitch tonight but I do wonder if he’s been a positive influence on Tupac since he arrived? I’d love to see Campbell make a success if it here - undoubtedly a v talented footballer, just needs his confidence building.6

We will 100% be offering him a contract and wanting him to stay, but I still don’t see why he’d sign it
Think he will get a good move and we will get some compensation0 -

I know of one league 1 club definitely interested in him already.
His last couple of cameos have been excellent and it's clear Nathan is managing to get a tune out of him - I just hope we can get another season with them working together because he has potential to be pretty decent IMO9 -

The question is "Can TC help to achieve that aim?"
I think he can. He has skill, pace and creates goals.
He's young and still learning but that also means that he doesn't count towards the 23? man squad limit so is a "bonus player". I doubt the 8-8-8 squad idea is going to be the plan under Jones but if it is TC is clearly in the Academy 8.
Do we have better wingers at the moment? No we don't. In fact, all we have is a 33 year old loanee who's shown nothing so far in his two short appearances and even younger players like Rylah (another great prospect IMHO but not ready yet and currently injured).
Should we buy/loan better wingers? Yeah, of course, if we can find them but that is easier said than done.
Meanwhile we have a decent winger on our books we can develop. Not sure a loan at a lower level develops him or helps us get promotion.
Sure his form took a big dip under Appleton but the whole club took a big dip under Appleton. Let's see what he does under Jones.8 -
What we have with Kanu, Anderson, Asiimwe, Ness and Campbell is young players learning the game. It is hard to buy players better than the division, but you can develop young players to be better than the division and I think three or four of those at least will become better than League One. I think next season we coud reap the rewards of this. We don't know where the ceiling is with these players, but the games they have played where it hasn't gone their own way are very valuable.7

He needs to play regularly and there's no guarantee of this with a move.0 -
Ideally, I'd like to see us offer a contract for two years and let him know that the first part of next season, he will probably be loaned to a League One club to start with. I think there will be takers for this and we can see him develop. He might be persuaded to sign as there would be a clear pathway for him.0

I'm with you Scoham, i like the kid, think Appleton absolutely destroyed him tbh. I'd like us to keep him and get him on a 2/3yr deal, send him somewhere on loan next season where he will play week in week out, but i don't think he would accept that. We will 100% offer him something, if he wasn't in NJ's plans, i can't have seen him anywhere near the Matchday squad for the past 12 games.0

I'm sure Jones is looking at players with a view to next season and the last two cameos from Campbell will ensure he hasn't written him off.2

He’s a young winger with goals and assists in him if he develops well. Paying compensation probably rules out those with smaller budgets too.1

He has enough technical ability and pace to be an impact player, either from the start or off the bench. I really like his off the ball movement, it's quite clever.
I think his questions for next season are how will he do as a forward in a front two, or as a 10. I still think his best position is left wing, and that part of the reason his form dipped last year is due to him being played on the right.
For me this is a good extension. Maybe he becomes a first team regular, maybe he doesn't but at 20 he has a good fpundation to build from.

I'm really pleased about this.
He looked bereft of confidence under Appleton last season and I feel like the club owe TC the opportunity to realize his potential.0 -

I’m delighted 🥰0

Out of all the players whose contracts were expiring, probably the only one I wouldn't have minded us keeping.
He's still young, has natural skill, quick. Has a fairly high ceiling with his attributes, his form just fell off a cliff last season, where he of course picked it up again.
I think he needs a loan next season personally, but I don't mind us keeping young Tyreece on the books at all.
Congrats TC1 -
Think he deserves at least a chance to show what he can do under a manager who is actually competent and two years says to me this isn't (just) about getting a fee if he does leave.
Hopefully Jones can help to rebuild his confidence and get him fired up, as I think there's a really good player in there.3 -
Very happy with this, think he is a cracking player who lost his way under Appleton. Has great technical ability, no little skill and decent pace which are the raw materials needed so he has a high ceiling and could grow with the club with luck.1
