Godden was fantastic last season, but I think Leaburn over the Xmas period was actually even better. Looked unplayable at times, if he can get back to that level consistently then we are laughing

Brilliant news, and really went under the radar as a lot of our news is doing at the moment. Makes you wonder if we have any other big contract renewals on the go

Cynic in me says that he's realised that he ain't getting a move anytime soon & would rather secure his future with a longer term deal than getting injured next Spring & seeing it running out.

Great news, think he will do well with a full pre season.

Fantastic news. Really looking forward to what a fully fit Miles with a pre-season under his belt can do. But yeah...this thread title needs changing!

Can't be many that aren't tied down to two or more years now bar the older players or those who haven't been first team regulars.  Where's @Scoham when you need him?

Great news and shows commitment from both sides. Massive season for Miles coming up and hopefully he can stay fit and fulfill the potential he definitely has

Optimist in me suggests that he wants to stay and it gives the club a contract to sell win - win 😁

Just said in the rumours thread TC is hopefully next for a new deal, and Asiimwe if NJ rates him.

I don’t see AMB and Taylor being offered new deals.

Godden has a year to go but an optional extension, given his age I would guess we’ll wait to see where we are and he is as we move through the season.

In the u21s, Tommy Reid, Casey and Rylah have a year to go. They weren’t part of the Wembley u21 group, so decisions might also be made as we move through the season. Wonder if any of them will be loaned out to help with those decisions?

There are also a few u21s where we don’t know contract lengths, and they signed those deals 1+ years ago.

It feels just like a Terry Taylor.

Would expect Casey out on loan definitely. Needs to go and prove he can score at senior level , Wealdstone wouldn't be a bad idea. Reid I would expect to stay around in case of injury.

Miles with a full pre season will be like a new signing. Fantastic news.

Sensible all round - protects us from him leaving on a free if he does well next season, and means Miles gets a guaranteed (almost certainly increased) wage for the next 3 years when he's had injury issues.

Good business, well done to the club.

21 goals in 75 appearances (starts and subs) for 21-year-old Miles.

He's been on the end of some nasty injuries, growing pains, and played out of position at times. A lot of his goals have been vital game differentiators, rather than the cherry-on-the-cake type.

Make no mistake, this extension may not have been agreed if we were still in L1. Very happy.

Agree though we have time on our side, his deal runs until 2027. The risk is he starts the season well and attracts interest, making it difficult to agree a new contract.

Great news. A very talented player when fit. Let's hope he gets a proper pre-season in and kicks on. We've invested a lot in his re-hab so hopefully we get a nice return this year. COYA

And yet if he hadn't signed, you'd be criticising the club for letting his contract run down.

This is great news! he could be a £10m player if he can prove his fitness. I've always been worried about how skinny his calf's and ankles look in supporting that massive frame, I think in time he may need to become less mobile to protect himself and suffer less injuries.

It's a very decent scoring record for a young player, particularly when you consider he would have been coming back from injury in many of those performances and played in teams that lacked creativity/chances.
Almost more than the number of goals is the variety though, headers, tap ins, long range bangers, chips, flicks... You name it.
If he was able to stay fit for the season, really grow into his body and start to use it to dominate defenders he could potentially become a £15-20M striker by the end of the season. I hope there is no sell on clause.

Made my summer that, I think he will be instrumental this season. The fact he has committed to Charlton is a reflection of our success. COYR.
This club makes me feel very happy sometimes

Really pleased Miles has signed a new contract. We know his potential but he needs a run of being fit as the last two and a half seasons have been stop, start, stop and hopefully a fresh start, under the guidance of Dr Will Abbott and Nathan gets a chance to see Leaburn blossom.🤞🏻

he is a championship forward from what we have seen of him but unfortunately we don't see enough of him fit and injury free. He wouldn't be with us if he could stay fit which I think is part of  what @golfaddick meant by his comment.

If he can stay fit we will stay up.

Absolutely over the moon with this news! Whether this translates into a crown jewel for CAFC or a big fee to CAFC in a year or two, who knows, but feels exciting right now and you just know that Nathan will help Miles develop further and deliver lots…

Hope he realises similar stats to my use of him in EA fc this year😂 This evolution built player is the finest player I have ever used in the decades I have played the game.
