What’s latest on his contract? Did he ever sign/extend? Not sure how long we’ll be able to keep him..

Nothing signed yet , can talk to European sides from Jan about a precontract and I'd expect if he hits form there will no shortage of interest both domestically and abroad. Just hope we're actively in talks.
Even if we are in talks, it will come to nothing.

Rumours are Mason Burstow - a player a fraction of the talent and potential of Leaburn - signed for Chelsea on a salary of about £10k a week. And that's loose change to Chelsea.

And as Leaburn has had some bad injuries of late, he will surely want to grab a life changing deal now in case something more serious on the injury front should happen.

Sadly I think the only question is now do we sell him in January and get a fee or let him go for nothing in the summer.

That, I am afraid, is modern football.
  • Over him half of what he goes for
  • While he is not scoring goals we are safe , no one will want him except us. It is what 8 games this season and no goals.
What he does for us is the hold up play and bullying defenders.

We will get some compensation in the summer, so I’d at least leave it till then, unless we can get a loan back deal in January

Very minimal if he goes abroad though, and we know there’s been interest from clubs outside England in the past.

no top club is looking purely at goal records for 20ish yr old striker. They’ll look at hold up play, technical skills, pressing, passing, tactical discipline etc. Goals are important but will actually be further down the list than good expect as that can be so dependent on play style

Of all the players in our squad , Leaburn must have the most potential to play at the highest level and will have bigger clubs then others monitoring him. Does he have areas he still needs to develop.. sure what young player doesn’t but his potential is up there. He reminds me of lookman, Gomez, Aribo, poyet..
  • He is class and as long as he can avoid injuries, will definitely play at the highest level.

I know their priority will always be their son but i'd like to think that because of their strong Charlton connections, his mum and dad won't sell us short and let him leave the club on a free.

I'm hopeful he'll sign a new deal but with a relatively fair release clause fee. At the end of this season he'll still only be 21 so there is plenty of time for him to move up the leagues.

  • The club have apparently made sure the lad had the best rehab available following his last injury. I don’t think he will be leaving without the club being taken care of. I wish there was a way of us keeping him for a couple of years but alas that’s never happening. I can see him going abroad in January if he plays and stays fit until then
  • We were on the train back to Victoria with the Stockport squad and coaches yesterday. I overheard some of them discussing Miles, they seemed surprised he was only 20. I heard Dave Challinor say that he (Miles) couldn’t stay fit. They mentioned Carlo being a former Charlton player, and said that he wasn’t very good/prolific (Charlton legend in my eyes).
  • If he was to stay injury free he will 100% play most of his career PL and wouldn't surprise me if he was even top end of the PL.  Wonderful player who has it all.  Hope he signs for another year or two, has a blinder for the rest of this season and then we keep him in the Championship next season.
  • If we’re up there challenging seriously for promotion come January then I would hope, and think there is a reasonable chance, that the club will look beyond a quick pay day for selling him mid season and keep him until the summer. If we get promoted there’s a slim chance of keeping him for another season in the Championship, or a better chance of us getting some kind of loan back deal for a season from whichever bigger club he joins if he goes to a Premier League club. That’s best case scenario and assumes he signs an extension with us that means we maintain some kind of bargain position. If he lets his deal run down and goes on a Bosman then we’ll have next to no control over what happens next. Given his family ties to the club and that we have him a second chance after Chelsea let him go you would hope there is some kind of consideration for helping Charlton get a good outcome when he eventually leaves, but he also has to look after himself first so who knows what’ll happen. I don’t think it’s a foregone conclusion he’ll be off for a reduced fee in January though.
  • I hope the reason he hasn’t signed yet is because they’re haggling over the contract length and not because he’s outright refused to sign anything. The latter would be gutting.

He won’t be here much longer whether he signs a contract or not but would be a big blow to lose him for peanuts compensation in the summer.
  • I just hope if/when he goes it isn’t to Chelsea - I hate what they do to players
Doubt he’ll go there, they’ve already released him once.

They’d done the same with Burstow and he went back

Burstow was only ever on trial at Chelsea wasnt he? - We napped him first, as he came through at Maidstone

Yeah you might be right there

Lots of people were saying he isn’t a hold up man while he was out injured, think he proved that’s cobblers today
    Lots of people were right.
He has never previously been a good hold up man.
Today was the best hold up play he has displayed.
  • He’s got it all in his locker and has a very high ceiling.

Will enjoy watching him play for England in years to come

enjoy him with us whilst he’s here, his short cameo yesterday showed us just what we’ve been missing

His mom and dad won't sell us short because it is nothing to do with them. Ultimately the decision is down to him and his agent and not his parents who may arise. He's just seen how early you can lose a year of your career and how close it could be to losing his career altogether.

My biggest fear is that he decides to move on and the more toxic sectors of our fan base go on social media and attack Tracy.
  • @Kap10 weren't his Mum and Dad acting as his agent though?

    Ah did not know that!

Still dont think Tracy should get internet pelters if he moves
  • He was out injured for a year. Did we offer him a new deal then, as that was the time to show faith in him and offer him a long contract, not now, when he is healthy and in his last year

As I understand it yes contract negotiations have been ongoing for months and months. The club understand his worth

I doubt he’d have signed anything while injured. Whether he’s looking to stay or get a contract elsewhere, his value in what he can ask for will  go up if he starts scoring goals now
