My biggest fear is we get a 'name' manager who is on the way down. Surprised at the lack of progress...
Or surprised at not being told about the progress?
    Fair point.

Either way I do feel we need to get out skates on, players out of contract , we need to start getting the foundations in place and not end up miles behind again like we were at the start of last season

Another name that hasn't really been mentioned is Paul Cook?
He's back at Chesterfield now - Be surprised if TS showed interest given his Ipswich performances.
Ah fair enough, didn’t see that he’d taken a new job.

Cant get a 30yr old with 50 yrs experience.....no shit Thomas!
    He’s was clearly joking.
No I’ve done the maths. It’s definitely not possible , maybe a 40 year old but definitely not a 30 year old.

I am sure Nathan Jones will be manager at some point during the next 5 years, just need the timmings to work
That will depend on the trajectories of both him and Charlton during that time.
  • Personally, and I have to be honest, if we win and the football is terrible, I don't really care. Obviously, the football was generally terrible last season and we didn't win enough but it is the not winning enough which bothers me.
I think winning helps the unattractive football medicine go down. On the whole though I think there is a correlation between good football and good results.

I think the manner of losing was an issue. Those losses we went down with a wimper and rolled over for teams. We wont win every game & play well but when we do lose, you want to at least see that the effort was there.

Wholly agree. Would happily climb the leagues winning 1-0 than stay here playing nice football.

Can change to a more pleasing style when we're challenging city and liverpool and have the players and resources to do so (ie so far away and unlikely to be unrealistic as a concern).

Until then just do what it takes to move forward and get us back competing in the championship.

Winning style is what we and the majority of the 92 need to be successful.

Ideally we'd have both but currently we have neither and if it's one or the other I'll take the one that gets points on the board all day long.

Yes, that is true. It isn't always the case but usually.
  • It's the timing of Jackson's sacking that I think was wrong.
If Sandgaard was going to sack him he should have done it about 6 or 7 weeks ago and had a new manager lined up so that he could assess the squad.
Either that or don't sack Jackson but support him in this transfer window.

He done neither of these things and now we are in a transfer window with no manager in place.
Yet another example of not having proper football people to advise him.
That might depend on who was targeted and if they were employed or if their teams were involved with possible promotion. I suspect there has been a list of names for months. That’s not saying that any were approached before the sacking.
  • I know Warburton is leaving QPR, but would a mid table League one club be a big enough draw, or does he see himself as a championship manager?

Think Charlton a great job for anyone the potential is massive .. Facillites second to none .

it’s a great challenge for anyone who has faith in himself
    Facilities second to none!
Ermmmm, they aren’t the worst by any means but to describe them as second to none is way off the mark.
Facilities that the club doesn't own!
  • I think Sandgaard juniors name should be included in the list of possibles.

I want to see some controlled possession with progressive passing and, on a good day, maybe some 1 touch stuff on occasion. Don't say you can't expect that in League One because I saw our opponents seem to do it every other week!

Plus it would have cost TS more money sacking him before the season ended and before he had "failed" the clause in his contract about finishing 8th.

Exactly. All part of the five year plan.

TS maybe describing Manning. MKD will be saying goodbye to five of their first team who were on loan and will no doubt be targets for bigger Clubs to buy or get on loan next season. They also have a couple of good players that could, and probably will leave. Twine being one.

I see us a big upgrade that would give him the opportunity to build something more permanent and with the prospects of going a lot higher than MKD.
Good call. And playing in that monster of a stadium when it’s virtually empty, week in, week out, must be thoroughly depressing. They still don’t feel like a real club to me.
Manning would be a good fit for us and I would love to see him appointed, but it will be expensive to attract him away from MK Dons. He would probably want a big upgrade in salary, and I believe we would also need to pay compensation as he is under contract. I think TS is more likely to go for someone out of work where no compensation will be needed, and where salary expectations are modest.

It's hard to imagine us playing that stuff when Stockley is the focal point of our team

Does he have the required coaching badges? I don't think so, but not entirely sure.

Was informed that Beale will be a non starter as he was not happy that Thomas said he had contacted him in an interview when Adkins left. I can't recall this can anyone verify please? Hoping this is not the case and Beale is a possibility. Thomas has verified to me that he tried to contact Beale last time.

    And then appointed…Jackson!
Csnt believe a word he says really.
    Blimey Eugene…..that’s a bit harsh. 🧐

I’ve thought that before but on the other hand you should get a better choice of candidates if you wait until the season has ended.

You might even have a specific person in mind who is at a club with something to play for, or a contract coming to an end.

As with making signings it’s about the wider picture, not just the action we’re taking or not taking.

It is but if we played it into his feet rather than pumping it in the general direction of his head he’d look better for it.
  • Dave Jones is available. 🙄
  • Tony Mowbray?

Just my opinion. Hence the use of words like "probably" and "I think". I would love to be proved wrong though.
