I don’t disagree with anything of what you’ve said above Lincs, it’s ridiculously expensive to live down south, but we are ‘told’ that players love to live in London and the southeast , and it is a big attraction?mistrollingin62 said:Richard J said:Simon Jordan has just said that Defoe could come to Charlton because of his relationship with Jacko.

It's worth saying again .. for a talented young player on average to good L1 wages, a move to the London area is often not viable. He might be living in a £200,000 house in a northern/midlands town or city with his family. Little traffic, good schools, easy travel to and from the training ground. Then, he signs for Charlton, sells the nice house and for the price he gets, he can buy a leasehold one bedroom flat above a chip shop in Penge with no parking space for his nice motor and no space for the wife and saucepan lids (if he has either)
THIS i m o is the biggest recruitment problem we have, the cost of living in London, as I say, for a footballer earning good money, but a salary that gives him an inferior standard of living to what he might enjoy well outside the M25
But you’re right you can buy a cow shed in London for the price of a 4 bed detached up north0 -
I actually thought Hemed was ok, I know strikers main KPI is scoring but he did alot of donkey work8

I found Hemed's failure at the club really strange; he had been brilliant for BHA prior to their promotion and looked to be a real coup of a signing.EricBanterna said:I actually thought Hemed was ok, I know strikers main KPI is scoring but he did alot of donkey work
Unfortunately, he turned out to be a real disappointment. Kept waiting for him to find his feet, but it never happened.
Win some, lose some, I suppose!3 -
Would be a great signing but might be too expensiveCallumcafc said:Paddy Lane in next please Thomas.0 -

Great to see Chuks Aneke back.
Football is a crazy business, and transfers don't work out. I don't think we could've got anyone better who would drop down a division ?
Is 16 year old Bellingham next ?

Leko is still a good player, he’s just in bad form - mainly because he’s not a wing-back or striker.I’d actually quite like to see what Jackson can do with a 4-2-3-1. I like the idea of:
Aneke
Kirk - Lee - Leko
It might not work in practice, but it would be an interesting watch.3 -

Next season if we are continuing with two up top there has got to be cover for both, the legs and energy of Washington along with Presence and hold up play of Stockley. So poor watching a side toothless up top.
Taylor, Bonne, Aneke and Hemed was decent enough quantity, even if Hemed turned out to be a massive disappointmentI’m just about old enough to remember when we had Leaburn, Nelson, Grant and Whyte on the books, imagine that quartet in this league!BR7_addick said:

If we had leaburn, grant, and nelson as 3 of our 4 forwards this season we would be bang in trouble! David whyte on the other hand yes please.0
-
January wishlist:
Paddy Lane - Fleetwood
Tom O’Connor - Burton
Two left footed chance creators. Lane has a bucket of assists from open play and O’Connor has a mean set piece delivery.
Stockley and Chuks would love them both. @Richard J would too. :-)1 -
Just no. They all played their entire Charlton careers at a higher level. You have to think a front two of Leaburn and Grant in their prime would tear this division up.Rufisonfire said:If we had leaburn, grant, and nelson as 3 of our 4 forwards this season we would be bang in trouble! Indeed the players in the pitiful Luzon/Fraeye/Riga season would give us a good game also, seeing that they were competing at a higher level too. You imagine the likes of Makienok would be a lot more prolific in L1.randy andy said:

Are we talking about the same 3 players? Maybe my memory is a bit shit but they were hardly what you would call prolific.0

Isn’t Paddy Lane a left winger? I’ve heard good things…. ButCallumcafc said:January wishlist:

…What would we do with another winger we already have 4 average ones we can’t fit into a team?0 -
I’ve always thought of him as part of a midfield three. Candidate for the Elliott Lee / Albie Morgan creativity role.Maccn05 said:

With respect, cos I was only about 8/9. But my memory of all four is strong. Whyte the goal scorer, Nelson the work horse who had some technical ability to go with it, Grant the pacey poacher from the bench and Leaburn is just Leaburn you can’t insult a strong cult figure like that. I’m confident they’d get 50 goals between them in league one.Rufisonfire said:If we had leaburn, grant, and nelson as 3 of our 4 forwards this season we would be bang in trouble! We got £2.5m for him......DOUCHER said:Blimey - we get all precious about parker and kids in the academy being sold but then are willing to take back a 39 year old who f**ked off at 16 after being with us from the age of 9 just coz west ham offered his mum a car - we got nothing for him, at least we got good money for the rest.0 -

If we can get him on a free or for a small fee, I'd do it now as it would free up another loan space.charlton_hero said:0 -
But not a squad place, with Aneke and JFC replacing Schwartz and Arter we can’t register anyone else. We need to move players on or sign u21s.Redmidland said:
