No. It was a picture of Sandgaard on the wall in the boardroom.dajavouslagan said:Didn’t someone say there was a familiar face in the boardroom last week. Defoe??!!!!4 -
Surprised Bowyer would want Taylor at Brum!NorthheathAddick said:Maybe Chuks coming back to us as rumour has it Taylor maybe going to Brum…🤔2 -
It says says something that only players being mentioned are ex players , Taylor , Chucks and even Defoe??? WTF is wrong here is this some sort Charlton thing that we are all so obsessed with the past? Why can’t we get an actual rumour about decent young fresh striker coming in6
-
All I will say is that we all know that this transfer window will follow previous ones..... not much activity & what does happen will be at the end of the window.
Just have a look at what other clubs are doing.....Wigan signing Magennis, Newcastle signing Wood, etc etc. Those clubs are on the ball, identified their target & swooped.
We have already played (and lost) 2 matches since the window opened & Jacko has just said that no-one will be coming in before the Cheltenham match.....so that makes 3.
Wouldn't it be nice for once to be one of the teams that are first to sign someone & have them play these important games instead of going into matches with a weakened team.

Rather than being obsessed with the past, I think these people have a lack of imagination and/or limited knowledge of the lower echelons of the EFL.CH4RLTON said:It says says something that only players being mentioned are ex players , Taylor , Chucks and even Defoe??? As far as this window goes, there is no urgency for me.We need a SCP style 17 man recruitment drive for next season and offload the passengers that we are carrying now.Forget this season - it was over when we kept soppy bollox in charge for 4 games too many, everything since is just window dressing.Beat Pompey and the Gills, then let that be an end to our expectations.0
-
I thought we were signing the youngster with the double barrel name from Palarse on loan.0
-
So Taylor and Defoe as our front two then.
That will delight some on here.
(Might score some goals though)1 -
Wigan are going for automatic promotion and pay decent wages (Wyke is allegedly on 10k a week). Newcastle are now the richest club in the world and have 100m+ at stake if they're relegated. We are a mid-table team with nothing to play for so naturally are going to find it harder to sign players.golfaddick said:All I will say is that we all know that this transfer window will follow previous ones..... not much activity & what does happen will be at the end of the window.

Also yes whilst it is technically 2 games lost since the window opened, Wycombe was 1st Jan, so would it even have been possible to sign, register and play a new signing in that game?
I guess there's now a sense within the club of whether it is worth pushing the boat out for new signings in a dead season, they will probably just bring in a couple of loans and save the money for the summer. I'd now be very surprised if we do much else.2 -
Because in Jan you need someone who can hit the floor running not taking month or two to settle at the club and area … makes a lot of sense in Jan to go fir players that we know very wellCH4RLTON said:It says says something that only players being mentioned are ex players , Taylor , Chucks and even Defoe??? Defoe is far to old for us at thirty nine.
Personally, I would go for Danny Kedwell who is a year younger.3 -
Cannot believe this level of blame is still being thrown at Adkins.Valiantphil said:As far as this window goes, there is no urgency for me.We need a SCP style 17 man recruitment drive for next season and offload the passengers that we are carrying now.Forget this season - it was over when we kept soppy bollox in charge for 4 games too many, everything since is just window dressing.Beat Pompey and the Gills, then let that be an end to our expectations.
a) he doesn't deserve to be insulted
b) IT'S THE FUCKING PLAYERS!!!5 -
Looking at Defoe's Wikipedia, he's scored four goals in the past two years. And at 39 I'm not sure he'd be a solution to our goalscoring problems.0

i'm not so sure - i think we should judge the difference once Stockley and Washington are back in tandem up front because i think Stockley's absence is what is crippling us at the momentCroydon said:

18 months and that's only league. 7 in 22 across all competitions. The concern is how much he can play at 39, a game a month average doesn't leave him particularly match fit. I think he'd be capable of scoring goals if we got the right service but no doubt it would be a pointless signing.Chunes said:Looking at Defoe's Wikipedia, he's scored four goals in the past two years. The lack of Stockley may explain our lack of goals atm, but it doesn't excuse the utter shite we served up on Wednesday. Performances and effort levels were crap all over the pitch.DOUCHER said:

Time and time again this group of players are well below what we expect for our club, yet every time the majority are ready to applaud them off and give them a free pass. Everyone gets the blame - Bowyer, Adkins, Roddy, Sandgaard, Basey etc - but it's time the squad took some accountability.
I say this as someone who was incredibly critical of Bowyer towards the end. It is clear as day to me that these players are the problem, doesn't matter who's in charge.2 -
Nobody else in the squad can play the Stockley role, that's a major issue for us in his absence.DOUCHER said:

Against Plymouth away it was "they must all have Covid" to explain utter dross, now it's Stockley is missing. With Bowyer for 4 months all we heard was "center backs".
Adkins went into the season with no left back, a half fit center half with no replacement, only 3 fit center midfielders and no left winger. We got beat by 3 of the current top 6. The team were booed off the pitch.
Now I am not excusing what happened next but getting 1 point from the 1st 4 games puts you right behind the 8 ball and already the manager is in a very difficult position.
Over the last 18 months it's been utter dross apart from a 10 or so game spell under each of the 3 managers. I was a massive critic of Bowyer but I also said just sacking Adkins won't solve everything. It hasn't. And was never going to.5 -
Anybody remotely thinking Defoe would be a good signing needs to give their head a wobble.8

100% This. They have proven they can play out their skins and work as a team, it really does feel like too many just don't care.Croydon said:

fair enough - the only thing i'd say to that though is that quite a few of the players are different to those bowyer hadCroydon said:

The players can raise their game for the odd match or even an occasional run of them but they simply can't sustain that level for months on end, let alone a season.4
-
Agreed and i've said before that i think Stockley and Dobson and possibly Famewo (a defende with mobility and power) are 3 players that we don't have deputies for and if any of those 3 are missing, we are stuffed. I think the Stockley and dobson situation will be addressed this window but doubt we will bring any more central defenders in with those coming back even if they aren't simila to famewo in the combined mobility and power stakes - albeit they may have other attributes he doesn't.killerandflash said:

The thing it doesn't explain is why everyone else goes to shit. Why our midfield aren't providing towards goals, or our wingbacks for that matter.killerandflash said:

Since he went there he played 2,373 minutes in the league and scored 25 goals.Chunes said:Looking at Defoe's Wikipedia, he's scored four goals in the past two years. And at 39 I'm not sure he'd be a solution to our goalscoring problems.
A goal every 94 minutes at any level is pretty decent. Especially when a lot of the time he was coming off the bench for a few minutes here and there.
However i agree he's not what we need, he's only completed 90 minutes 9 times in 3.5 years.
The only plus point would be that he'd be good for Burstow and Kanu to learn from.1 -
Do you know we're not in talks with players & clubs, had initial approaches rejected or are you guessing?addick1956 said:
In other words people on the pitch who are the very aim of a football match. So why is it that nothing has happened, again half way through a window.Scoham said:https://londonnewsonline.co.uk/johnnie-jackson-its-so-clear-what-areas-charlton-need-to-do-business-in-this-transfer-window/Confirmation again we’re looking for attacking midfielders and strikers. not sure what the answer is then? Is it the recruitment? are we not doing our due dilligence on the players characters? i look at the likes of dobson, clare, Lavelle, Lee, Gilby, Washington, Stockley, Innis, the keeper, pearce, purrington and i don't see anything but 100% effort - albeit i don't see many away games at the moment - Leko and DJ appear to have lazy / disengaged moments - i don't think gunter and davison can be accused of not putting it in, i just think their not much good - watson and matthews, not sure.Cafc43v3r said:
