  • Norrie beaten in four sets by Berrettini.

Raducanu wins in straight sets over 26th seed Alexandrova.
Worryingly she hit 15 double faults, more serving practice needed

I guess that’s sort of to be expected, she’s changing her serve but hasn’t played much so is kinda learning on the job. Really hope she can get through the Aussie open without having to withdraw with injury.
  • Boulter through in 3 sets

Elevated her game that critical %age point to close out the 3rd set against a very capable in form opponent

Next up Veronika Kudermetova, world top 10 in 2022, currently WTA ranked 17 but not seeded at AO, she coasted thru 1st round 6-1 6-1

That's about as tough a 2nd round opponent as any seed could have
  • Four British women and two men through to second round - a decent return.

    Valuable ranking points on offer.
  • BBC are saying that 6 winners in the first round is a record for British players in the Australian Open. There had been a few years with 5, but anything more than that seemingly goes back to the amateur days.

Agreed kudermetova is a tough draw but the Eurosport commentators repeatedly said she had an easy draw through to the second week which I found odd given she may also have to play haddad maia before that
  • Jodie Burrage also won - 4  out 4 Brit wins on day 2
4/5 - Kartal was defeated right at the beginning of the day.
Her loss was on day 1 I think, but it's splitting hairs, she lost either way.  4/5 still a decent start, hopefully Norrie and Boulter can add to this
There’s splitting hairs, and then there is being right.
As Dart wasn’t scheduled to play you could argue we got 4 through out of 4 even with kartal losing
  • Fearnley v Cazaux scheduled for around 3am U.K. time tonight. Dart v Vekic around 5am.

    Draper v Kokkinakis & Burrage v Gauff at 8am U.K. time.

Good effort from Burrage but ultmately loses to the third seed Coco Gauff. Three other Briits in action atm

  • Draper one set all with Kokkinakis.

Fearnley coming towards the business of a second set, he’s a set down to Cazaux.

Harriet Dart serving for, and about to take, the first set against Vekic. This would be a big upset.
  • Dart wins the opening set over Vekic 6-4.
  • I'm finding the Australian crowd very annoying - surely the crowds at Wimbledon aren't this bad?! I keep turning the sound down a bit but now I can't hear the commentators properly
  • Dart loses in three sets 4-6 6-0 6-2.

Draper in trouble in the fourth set against Kokkinakis. Down 2-1 and a break.

Fearnley in a strong position against Cazaux in their fourth set. Up 2-1 and a break.

not helped by the Aussie being 2 sets to 1 up and a break up in the 4th!

It does happen at Wimbledon too but this game has been particularly bad. Things like cheering missed first serves etc is a bit crappy

Happened with the Kyrgios Fearnley match too
  • Brilliant break to love by Draper with Kokkinakis serving for the match
  • Huge game for Draper, breaking back when Kokkinakis was serving for the set and he gestures to the crowd.

Fearnley wins his game, great tournament for him so far.

His best game of the match so far right when he needed it, combined with a clearly nervous Kokkinakis who has never made the third round of his home slam before.

  • Fearnley through to Round 3, winning 3-6 7-5 6-2 6-3.
  • Fearnley likely to be playing second seed Zverev in the next round, who is 2 sets up at the moment
  • BIG hold next game too

    agreed
  • Huge set for Draper, hopefully that set has taken it out of Kokkinakis
  • And Draper breaks to win the 4th
  • 2 sets all!

  • If Draper wins he'd have another Aussie in the next round which would be fun
  • Very unsportsmanlike from the crowd tbh so I don't blame Draper for having a go back.
