Raducanu wins in straight sets over 26th seed Alexandrova.
Worryingly she hit 15 double faults, more serving practice needed
I guess that’s sort of to be expected, she’s changing her serve but hasn’t played much so is kinda learning on the job. Really hope she can get through the Aussie open without having to withdraw with injury.
BBC are saying that 6 winners in the first round is a record for British players in the Australian Open. There had been a few years with 5, but anything more than that seemingly goes back to the amateur days. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/articles/cqldr9xnn96o
Elevated her game that critical %age point to close out the 3rd set against a very capable in form opponent
Next up Veronika Kudermetova, world top 10 in 2022, currently WTA ranked 17 but not seeded at AO, she coasted thru 1st round 6-1 6-1
That's about as tough a 2nd round opponent as any seed could have
Agreed kudermetova is a tough draw but the Eurosport commentators repeatedly said she had an easy draw through to the second week which I found odd given she may also have to play haddad maia before that
I'm finding the Australian crowd very annoying - surely the crowds at Wimbledon aren't this bad?! I keep turning the sound down a bit but now I can't hear the commentators properly

not helped by the Aussie being 2 sets to 1 up and a break up in the 4th!

It does happen at Wimbledon too but this game has been particularly bad. Things like cheering missed first serves etc is a bit crappy

Brilliant break to love by Draper with Kokkinakis serving for the match
His best game of the match so far right when he needed it, combined with a clearly nervous Kokkinakis who has never made the third round of his home slam before.

Valuable ranking points on offer.

Fearnley coming towards the business of a second set, he’s a set down to Cazaux.
Harriet Dart serving for, and about to take, the first set against Vekic. This would be a big upset.
Draper in trouble in the fourth set against Kokkinakis. Down 2-1 and a break.
Fearnley in a strong position against Cazaux in their fourth set. Up 2-1 and a break.
Fearnley wins his game, great tournament for him so far.
