Where's Vigo Jacobsen and Paul Walsh in that photo!!
Killer got 8 goals in 23 games, with Gritt and Robinson getting 7 each in 31 games, Les Berry being the only ever present and Nicky Johns taking over from Wood in goal.
I remember this season (and the following) particularly well. I missed three games away (despite our woeful away form)and none at home in the league.
Particular away memories were
An away draw at Burnley on a Tuesday night. I was in the loos when Martin Robinson got the equaliser near the end. A 4-0 defeat at Roker Park, but I won 50 quid from a 'scratch-off' panel on the match day programme (I also remember some Charlton fans on my coach not being allowed into the ground by the OB as they were too pissed - all that way and no match!) Freezing my nuts off in a 3-0 defeat at Luton - and meeting up with some young ladies who we were supposed to have taken to the game from Blackheath but had made their own way there A 3-2 defeat at the Racecourse ground after going 2-0 up with Johnny Oostergaard getting the Welsh Goal of the season. Tom Finney getting some serious abuse at Cambridge (history from the Grahm Tutt incident) and scoring in front of us 5 mins from time - he was close to getting lynched Peter Shaw giving me match tickets for the main stand at Boundary Park - another last five minute winner from the home team!
Best of all that season was our marvellous FA Cup Run.
3rd round draw, Addickted's 18th Birthday. 6-0. I still went to the league game two weeks later though.
My old peepers are shot too, but is the young Paul Walsh amongst the assembled gathering? Er, no he's not but I believe he would have played in the ill fated Liverpool/Juventus Final at the Heysel Stadium in '85.
bloke in the blue said the bloke with the beard tried to get the club to stay down in the 3rd the following season as they were getting better win and goals bonus' than they did when they kept losing in the 2nd division and wanted that to continue. RIP harry.
only a couple of years before the club was almost shut down.
79/80 season our top scorer managed 8 goals and we won 6 games so the players didn't get paid very much that year. it was then realised by feb the following season when we were pretty much pissing the division that they were getting better wages winning and scoring more in the lower league than if they were to go up and quite fancied doing it again for another season.thankfully the teams below us were utter dog poo and we made it back up.
the following season back in division 2,our top scorer young paul walsh bagged 13 and we won 13 games which was less than what we had won in just our home games the previous season.
went to 13 away games and sit not see us puck up a single point! Including the cup at wrexham .... Incidentally the financial damage was done AFTER we got promoted ... Mike Bailey left for Brighton and we got Mullery... Crowds the same but the costs went through the roof - don't know the detail why but makes me laugh when I used to see mullery on sky playing the expert - a sort of redknapp type but without any success on the pitch
In answer to the question about Paul Walsh, I believe he didn't make his debut until the following season. As for Henry's comparison with that season to this one, thats a good one.
I hate to p*ss on that parade but I was hoping that we did not have a similar period as the one at the start of 1970s when an ex player the Manager Eddie Firmani was replaced by assistant Theo Foley. He managed to keep us up - just in his first season. The following one we were relegated to the third tier and then after two frankly pretty disasterous seasons, he was finally replaced by Andy Nelson and we finally got promoted. To be fair to Foley, he did sign Hales, Flanagan and Powell, he just couldn't fashion a team.

Can't quite agree there, Bing ;o)
In Division 3, Theo fashioned a decent enough footballing side all right, especially at home if they felt in the mood to play.
Trouble was, Theo was a bit close to the lads and fond of sharing a beer with them.
It took a new manager in the shape of Andy Nelson to take Theo's team, and with a bit of discipline and better organisation, turn it into a promotion side.
I only mean't disasterous in the sense that they didn't lead to promotion or even a near miss Oggy. Sure there were some decent performances, Notts County 6-0 for example with Flanagan scoring 4, the problem was we didn't have enough of them.

Hi Bing, that's what I meant by what I said above:

Thanks.
Walsh played 7 league games that 79/80 season. His debut was on 22.9.79 v Shewsbury.
He didn't score at all that season so even then we had non-goal scoring forwards. In fact it took him 20 league games to get a goal. Can you imagine the screams if that was now.
he had scored some league cup goals (hat trick v Brentford) but maybe we gave players more time then.
The error in my analogy was actually Shelvey who, of course, made his debut, last season not this but as they were both 16 I hope you will forgive my artistic licence.
I'd forgot that Paul Walsh never scored in his first 20 games - and then became so prolific, we couldn't cash in fast enough (alright, to pay the wage bill and get Luton striker Steve White in exchange).
Paul Williams was another who at first couldn't hit a barn door to save his life. Must have played a dozen or so games without scoring, was shipped out to somebody like Gillingham or Brentford, broke his duck - and came back on fire, became leading goalscorer and played for England 'B' - before Sheff Wed pounced in the Charlton bargain department, in the wake of our relegation.
So Dicko, don't worry - your time will come. Even if you have to go loan to Gillingham again first.....(!)

David Campbell has done very well for himself - I would say slightly better than the others, including Andy Nelson.

My first match at the Valley!

Was talking about this season at the game yesterday.
79/80 Won 6 games
08/09 Have won 6 game
79/80 Sacked manager and assistant took over
08/09 Sacked Manager and Assistant took over
79/80 Finished bottom
08/09 Look like finishing bottom
79/80 Young youth product made début - Went on to play in European Cup Final
08/09 Young youth product made début - Goes on to?
79/80 Next season same manager and largely same squad get automatic promotion
08/09 Next season..............................
Anything on the financials for that season?
.....
The key to success next year is keeping the squad together, or the nucleus of it. Whether we keep Parky or not is a moot point.
Too good a quiz question to waste : - )
Anyone?
Amdy Faye , no Churchouse was a footballer!
Turnover was up by £50k to £455,122.
We made a profit of £187,184 but mainly due to the selling Flanaghan.
Our worryingly large overdraft was £239,844.
Average crowd was 7,208
That's all I can remember off the top of my head
only a couple of years before the club was almost shut down.

we had 2 seasons 1933-35 and the one season 1980-1
i'd take 3 seasons and promotion right here and now cos i fear we could be down for a while ;-(
Why?
Jacobsen and Ostergaard?
