Is it normal for a pre-contract agreement to be announced with a shirt-holding photo? Or has that happened with the assumption that a permanent deal was about to be completed?
I wonder if George was asked if he was happy for this announcement / photo release to happen once the immediate transfer fell through.
Not ideal for a club captain to have that out in the public domain but it gives me some hope as he’s obviously said to Jones that he’s willing to stay and fight to keep us up.
It is not obvious at all - it is most likely Jones who said that he needed him for the rest of the season. We do not know what George wanted.

None of know what the hell has gone on with GD but my assessment of the bloke is that if he is picked he will still give 100% for us, I honestly dont think it is in his DNA not to do so6

Lads, hear me out, with the news of Dobson staying for the rest of the season who fancies meeting me in the west stand toilets during the Lincoln game for some UniCum?21

If George had thrown his toys out the pram and insisted he wanted to go, he would have gone. Regardless of contracts the reality is the player holds the cards in such a situation. They can refuse to play ala Parker, or play but make it blatantly obvious they're not putting in much effort until they get "injured" ala CBT.0 -

Jones comes across as someone who gets what he wants. What price Dobson storms the final couple of months, gets a new deal, stays and Jones ousts Scott as "surplus to requirements". It's the sort of role where he could justify saying he wants his own man.
Jones has been here a week and has already undermined/got the better of Scott.2 -

Too many questions at present & not enough clarity.
Surely, having our new manager in the firing line at his pre match interview ( which he handled superbly as we knew he would) won't cut the mustard .
And sooner or later, Dobbo's position will need clarification....
Once again, I'd urge all the home fans there tomorrow night to be loud & proud in their support of our captain & leave him in NO doubt whatsoever that his place and his future is here, wearing the red shirt.

The agreement in place is between him and Fehrevar.Had the club not pulled the plug and agreed a fee with Fehrevar for the immediate transfer, obviously a news post would've gone out. But it would odd if the club commented on the business of other parties IMO.Plenty of sticks to beat the SMT with but the statement/no statement situation isn't one of them.
We are not talking about the private career of a senior executive. We are talking about the club captain of a team in freefall to the relegation zone, in the transfer window; who is seen by most fans as the one of only two players (Alfie being the other) who seems to give a toss about it. The club had previously let it be known that contract discussions were ongoing. Then we get the bizarre rumours of an offer from Hungary, followed by the dawning realisation that other countries have a different window calendar. Then the sudden announcement that he’s picked up a “niggle” and unavailable for crucial games. Then the deal in Hungary goes from being one in summer after his contract ends, to a perm now. Then we get two Lifers clearly connected to his family spilling beans about his current deal. And we have a new manager coming in who is immediately obliged to go along with the “injury” charade, thus undoing the positives of his own appointment and what had seemed like a decent window. You cannot pretend it is purely a private issue like say the CEO of Tesco talking about jumping ship to Aldi. This is a football club and fans are stakeholders. The idea that in 2024 the club can just sniff and say “nothing to see here, move along, and btw bring a friend to Lincoln” is absolutely untenable.
And if you do put out a statement to that effect, what do you gain? For supporters who are not avidly on CL and Twitter, they will probably be asking why the club has put out a statement that the club captain is still a club player, and that further in flames the situation. And if the club is under the impression that Dobbo wanted to go, and given all the noise around it they'd have every right to believe that unless explicitly told otherwise, then saying "he's a Charlton player" the day before he leaves the club is a huge own goal.
I obviously cannot comment on how things were handled with Dobbo behind the scenes. But it doesn't seem to me like the club has leaked anything here, at least not recently, and they have offered him a deal to stay so it seems they want him to stay, it just may not be under the terms he desires.
It's certainly very possible that Jones has convinced Dobbo to stay. But I think it's also very possible that Dobbo's camp/agent kept ramping up the stakes in a hope for a last minute improved offer from Charlton that didn't happen. That included trying to carry out negotiations and emotional pleas through the press and fans. And fair play, it's a good way to carry out negotiations for a player massively popular amongst the fanbase.
And in the end that turned out to be a bluff.2 -

Assuming he plays tomorrow night, what are the chances of him being sent off as he’ll be trying too hard?0

I would imagine that George himself had a very big say in this decision, as they'd be no point in this if he wasn't up for it.2

György-Porgie, Unicum and pie,
Signed for the Hungarians and made them cry,
When the Addicks came out to play,
György-Porgie came back anyway25 -
As much as the decision to let him leave was idiotic and potentially fatal, the move to intervene and bring him back could be galvanising. Start him tomorrow with the armband and you immediately get the crowd onside and vocal.7

Wasn’t just me that heard Jones hinting that there was a chance Dobson could still stay beyond this season was it?0

Well done, Nathan Jones!0
