Was on Whitstable beach with my 3 year son and we were both wearing our Charlton shirts (I'm slowly brainwashing him) Someone walked past and said he liked our shirts with a smile on his face. Always nice to meet felllow Addicks in the area.
I had a run in with a seagull in Herne Bay last year. We were sitting on a bench on the seafront, eating fish and chips. I suddenly felt something hit my head, then a seagull grabbed my piece of fish and flew off with it. Fortunately I had eaten most of it, but it was a bit scary at the time.
Am in Whitstable for a few days from the 21st. Is there any decent pubs for grub in and around their worth visiting.
Been to Old Neptune's/Rose in Bloom and they were awful when we visited last year.
Ship Centurion/Naval reserve were great for beer.
East Kent is worth a try.
As I've mentioned before, I don't think Whitstable has moved with the times. There are about 4/5 pubs on the high street who still marvel in serving rolls/ frozen food meals. Add the two you mentioned and it's a strangely high number for such a popular destination.
I went to Herne Bay once about 20 years ago, drove along for a few minutes and thought no thank you. It didn't appeal to me at all, I can't think of a worse looking resort that I've been to. Apologies to anyone who lives there or likes the place. Horses for courses I suppose.

It is much better than it used to be.
Completely agree, I used to visit 12-13 years ago to play squash in the pier sports centre and back then it felt like there was a run down sports centre, a couple of chavvy arcades and a Wetherspoons.
Remember it being described by a mate as looking like a Biff casino (BTTF) version of Whitstable and that wasn't too far off.
But since they redid the pier it's brought that whole part up, there are nice restaurants along there, good play areas for the kids... and chavvy arcades and a Wetherspoons (I quite like chavvy arcades though!).
Lived on Isle of Sheppey for fifty years(now sittingbourne) went to Herne Bay several times used to be a good Vinyl Record shop there,B Side the C side,now closed.

I would sometimes drive down there, have a coffee in that odd place by the pier, (central band stand I think?) before visiting my elderly Uncle. I remember thinking as I sat there all forlorn one day that Herne Bay could do with being hit by rock and roll. I kid you not, a guy then arrived, plugged in a bright red strat, started his backing tape and knocked out some Hank Marvin covers.
It was a particularly grim weather day, my uncle was in a very bad way and the drive to his house seemed tortuous. A grey drive, on a grey day, in a grey place. He was a good old boy, miss him dearly, can't say the same for Herne Bay.

My dad used to go fishing there - even dragged me along once. He always said it was a good deal walmer there. He was very proud of that joke.
My brother in law had been living down in Deal for about 10 years (Hershcell road east) he then moved to Walmer (6 years), where he bought a house with land, as they had horses. He has just moved to Scotland. He plays a lot of golf and was a member at Royal Cinque Ports, would often play with Charlie Wright. Been to a few gigs in the Astor. It's an area where you get to see some stars, Viv Reeves lives down that way.

Apart from that I'd separate the two, The Ship or one of the Micropubs for a drink, and then there's plenty of decent restaurants.

Was bizarre, really old man pub type place and yet unbelieve Thai curries for about a fiver.
On a side note...popped into the spoons this afternoon in Herne Bay, bumped into a Charlton fan who is adamant we will romp this league.
