    Now Iraq need a goal and an equaliser for S Korea.

    It’s a smash and grab lead. South Korea have had pretty much all the pressure (graph below, green = home, blue = away).

    But UAE won’t care one bit.

    As far as i understand it, both the AFC play off game and then the play off v the 5th placed team from South America will both be played in Qatar in June.

    But it was too hot to play a world cup then, so how are these games ok? Will they play them indoors?

    UAE hold on for a surprise 1-0 win and advance to the AFC play-off against Australia. South Korea hit the woodwork once in each half but couldn’t get the goal.

    Iraq are eliminated.

    Ghana took the lead but Nigeria equalised 12 minutes later. Heading into HT now.

    Away goals count in WC qualifying so as it stands, Ghana would qualify at the expense of Nigeria.

    Lookman getting lots of compliments from Nigerian fans on Twitter. He won the penalty that brought about their equalising goal.


    HT on both the early African games:

    Senegal 1-0 Egypt (1-1 agg - heading to extra time as it stands)

    Nigeria 1-1 Ghana (1-1 agg - Ghana qualify on away goals as it stands)

    Since they qualified for the first time in 1994, they have only missed out that one time (now two times).

    African qualifiers in 2006 were Ghana, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Angola and Togo.

    Salah will take first for Egypt - in a change of tactics from AFCON where he was fifth but never got to take one.

    What the hell is going on with the lasers?

    Cheating bastards!! - Every time Egypt take a penalty they're shining on the player, when its Senegal's turn the lasers are on the Goalkeeper

    I thought the away goals rule was scrapped across football, didn't realise it was kept by some competitions.

    Ghana are terrible, no idea how they've qualified. Hope they're in England's group.

    UEFA scrapped it for their own competitions but FIFA have kept it, for now.
