Also needs to be stopped the other way, why are so many people still arriving at Heathrow that immigration queues are 5 hours?
the closure of the borders for non essential travel took place 9 months too late. With all of these new variants keeping our borders safe is still vital if we are going to get back to some sort of normality.
We have two weeks booked in Croatia in August, originally booked for last year.
We managed to change the EasyJet flights at no cost as they wouldn’t give a refund (one of the flights did proceed and we had to make a decision before this). Also we managed to put the accommodation back a year.
Haven’t a clue if EasyJet will let us change the flight again or if we can push the accommodation again.
If the flights take off, EasyJet won’t refund unless it’s forbidden (and then they have been really slow apparently).
Hope all goes well and you manage to get away or get as much money refunded as you are able to / as your suppliers are able to provide.
Going back through this thread and all others that cover holidays and travel on this forum, over several years, I've posted about the value of booking bonded and protected packages rather than doing it yourself directly with suppliers. It may in theory (though not always in practice) be considered better value to go down the DIY route, but in the event of any disruption consumers are on their own and often out of pocket.

we always go either June or September to avoid the school holidays. However, this year even those times will be a lot busier due to people not holidaying abroad. Just hope we have a decent summer so kids and parents will be on the beach and not cluttering up the tourist hot spots like Padstow, Port Isaac etc.

And professional sports people? The Beckhams seem to pop back and forth to the US and others such as actors and other media 'stars'

I'm sure he's found a loophole and not blatantly breaking the rules as being in the press/on TV would not be the brightest rule break!
The beckehams etc are free to travel to the US and back etc as is TS, as long as they self isolate, test etc as per the regulations or have some form of exemption, maybe Victoria has signed up to be a bus driver

Our trip to Zante was cancelled last year and it was all rolled over to June 19th this year but I am starting to believe it will get cancelled again.
Sadly almost certainly I would think. Even in the UK lifting of restrictions is the 21st June at the earliest, which you can see extending out. I don't see any foreign holidays before schools are back in September.

I don't think you can go to mainland Spain or France at the moment - travel insurance won't be valid. Although Spain is on the Amber list, the FCDO is not advising against all but essential travel to the Balearics or the Canaries so travel insurance should be valid despite it being Amber so you need to follow the destination countries rules and the UK's on return. Always check the FCDO Travel Advice, not only to check you travel insurance is valid but because, for example, currently some Amber countries and islands are ok

I’ve admitted defeat on any hopes of a foreign holiday this year.
Most likely 10 days in Looe at my Dad’s place and a few days in the New Forest in a B&B on the way back for a change of scenery.
can’t grumble but not my idea of a holiday where I sit in the sun and get waited on hand-and-foot as I’ll spend most of the time driving somewhere, sat in traffic or getting fucking soaked in the rain!
At the moment we got a cruise going in late September Southampton to Barcelona vis Bordeaux, it will be interesting to see if that will finally go, 14 nights of luxury some interesting ports of call, with the option of staying on board rather than tours which at the moment slightly concerns me, but we have both been double jabbed so we can decide on the day, we can cancel the cruise at the last moment if we consider it unsafe.

That does depend though. The rules and cover within travel insurance is fixed and won’t change, but FCDO advice for each country is flexible and can change on a daily basis. If you’re booking a holiday for November, there’s no way of knowing what the FCDO advice will be for your destination, but you can at least purchase travel insurance with covid cover at the time you book your holiday, you’ll then have a better chance of full refund of cancellation occurs due to covid.
