last fling ? .. could make him more up for it and dangerous
I doubt he will be selected tbh. Him and Smith has previous and Smith wont like him making that statement before the series.
Which is what i'm hearing from the local journos down here. Smith has publicly praised him, yet it seems through gritted teeth. There is a lot of previous between the two and it seems this will be the perfect excuse for Smith to 'move him on'
SA coaching team includes Kallis, one of the greatest ever all rounders, and tough guy Boucher who still holds the record for most test dismissals (ct and stumped) by a wicketkeeper .. IF these two can sprinkle some of their magic dust on the SA players, England will be in for a tough series (IF that is)

Yes, Boucher brought in by Smith as team coach, and Kallis as batting coach. However, despite their magnificent international records, there is the story about pigs and lipstick, and i'm not sure that SA have enough lipstick for their pigs at the moment - but its also all about whether England have enough for theirs too, and will we have the usual skill to be able to do the job. Bowling wise i think we are fine, but do we have it in the batting dept? - especially now with the expected absenteeism of Stokes.
Root's decision to bowl first could still bite us in the backside. The pitch is reckoned to seriously deteriorate in the second half of the match but that was seemingly offset by the amount of grass the pitch has. Of course, not playing a spinner rather influences that decision too.
If you needed any extra evidence that international cricket is run like a members' club, Bairstow has waltzed back into the team. How much has he deserved it? Not in any way whatsoever
Denly and Root have done well to see us through to lunch albeit that Pretorius, Nortje and Maharaj have not offered the same threat as that of the opening bowlers - Philander and Rabada will no doubt be back straight after lunch

Wouldn't be surprised if Stokes misses the 1st Test.

and also i'm hearing that Markham is too.
So, they are looking to play De Kock as batsman only.
So, could be a line up of (considering i dont think they are going to play Philander) of...
Malan
Elgar
Du Plessis
De Kock
VDD
Hamza
Second
Rabada
Hendricks
Maharaj
Nortje
32-2
3 for Curren
Not in public at least...
4 for Curren
Not the best of starts to say the least!
60-2 off 21 overs
Partnership of 45 off 96 balls
Denly 17* (61)
Root 26* (40)
The Darren Stevens of international cricket now has figures of 6.1-5-1-2
