simonmatthews said:Not sure what to make of the moves for Toney and Maddison. If both are being brought in as part of some extra muscle to keep us up - fine. But neither look like the type of long term acquisitions I'd expect from a new owner...or from a manager with cash to spend from a new owner.Proven League One pro's are unlikely to get us promoted to the top flight IMO.
Would definitely say they could be long term acquistions - Both have shown they can handle League One so is right they should be allowed to make the step up

Imo, Toney is a signing that shows a lot of promise17 -

A couple of our best are on loan too. If they are going to massively improve our team we should go in for them. I suspect both of these are:0

Bringing in Maddison and Toney would be a fabulous statement. Even if they just do enough to keep us in Champs then that is sufficient short term. Then there are many players who have come through the leagues to make a real presence in the Prem. Vardy, Maguire, Robertson spring to mind.
Main worry for me is that we keep leaking goals, and CB also needs addressing, but looks like LB and SG are on that case too.
Onwards and upwards - exciting tines, unlike previous Jan windows where we were just looking to sell anybody who is worth any money.

Dont think we will he buying Toney. I think they will want £4m + (the £13m was pie in the sky) and I dont think we would splash that amount of money. Might as well get Gnanduillet for £1m.3

too much cash!
Didn't sound like Southall wanted to spend that much on him judging by his interview on sky.
He spoke about him, that made it sound like that was that.Might surprise us yet though!!0 -

Their chairman said it publicly.0 -
Maddison would be a very good signing. Toney would be an astonishing signing. If he is touted around by Peterborough then there will be quite a few Championship sides very interested. Strikers always attract a lot of attention.0

I just don't get it, we currently have a lad who was playing non league leading the line for us, how can anyone think Toney is anything but an ambitious signing is beyond me. As for Maddison, show me one player we have or have had recently that even compares to him stats wise in the midfield.
Both capable of making the step up, both would be long term for us, bonkers22 - Sponsored links:

Maddison is 100% not going to sign. MS is playing along to help push the price up for the teams actually interested...Toney could be more realistic pending the Lyle Taylor situation

Maddison has only been allowed to go due to his contract situation, whereas Toney still has a while to go on his. DMAC is far too savvy to throw the chance of promotion away just for a pound note
They are 9th and heading downwards.
Then they buy another youngster and hope to sell him on.
Good business model but must be frustrating as hell for their fans.
Lookie, konsa, grant,Gomez and aribo have all made the step up from league 1
I wonder from where??

I think it depends what your expectations are. I think Brentford fans might start getting the hump if they continue with there current policy for 3 or 4 more years and don't go up. For example. I think MOST of us would be happy with it for a few years but the SOME would get restless with "standing still".0 -

sorry, not sure how to embed tweets. it’s peterborough’s chairman saying they have turned down every bid for toney0 -
If Maddison was the player Lee drove to see and I assume it was at they said it came from Matt Southall, then you would like to think that Marcus has the ambition to step up now and a chat from Lee Bowyer and a decent contract may make the player come to London. Could still be 50/50 but l hope so as I wanted this to happen 6 years ago the week before he signed for Posh from Gateshead.

Young and hungry players that have something to prove. You seem to have missed the building gradually bit about the long term plan. IF signed they would be perfect players for what we are trying to achieve. Get a grip.2 -
Mcanthony has stated tonight that bids have been made for Toney but none accepted0

He doesnt need to push the price up!!... Its a release clauseJonT_Abs said:Maddison is 100% not going to sign. MS is playing along to help push the price up for the teams actually interested...Toney could be more realistic pending the Lyle Taylor situation

...thats a fair point ..though still think it's a mechanism to get other teams to meet the release clause and Charlton's 'bid' is maybe not so serious as he's not the main target
My first post here, could be my last if I'm horribly wrong!2 -

Put it as simple as this....
Mendonca - always caused us problems so we signed him.
Lyle Taylor - always caused us problems so we signed him
Maddison - always caused us problems.....let’s get him in!Class if we do sign him!!!
Eddie Howe obviously put that down in his pitchside notebook if Yann ever became available and thanks to Katrien and Roly it did.0 -
wonder If macanthony is using his mate as bait to get interest in him. Just don’t see him being a bowyer signing.2
-
Don’t trust that Peterborough chairman - making everything public.... drumming up more interest.... something doesn’t ring true2
