Didnt watch it - but were Pompey a bunch of cloggers?

According to the commentators, we were!

  • Well old chaps
That result has certainly put the cat amongst the pigeons
  • Not surprised with the sending off... Went straight into Taylor and didnt see either getting the ball to be honest

Pompey commentary on iFollow was so fucking biased.....the half time round up was laughable beyond words.

I honestly thought I had been watching a different match when I started listening to their half-time piffle.
  • How great it would be for everybody to forget who owns this club and get down to the Valley on Saturday, these players deserve to be playing in front of 15000 plus,we could with luck be in the top 2 before long especially after performances like tonight. We have a true Charlton management team, every game 4-5 lads who have come through the ranks are running their nuts off for the club they love.RD is insignificant and does not even warrent a thought.

We’ve got a pretty decent record down there in the last 30 years

Speaking to my old man, he took me down there for a win in the early 90s. We won 2-1 in 93. I remember going a 2-0 win just before Xmas in 97, season we won promotion

We beat them quite easily when we won the championship in 99/00 season

Beat them again in Oct 03 I think when we had Di Canio. Again the season after when Rommedahl scored, game was live on Sky

That win last season and now tonight

No wonder some of their fans may be a bit fed up with us
  • Well after that stellar performance I hope we don't buckle under lowly Wimbledon this weekend.

    PWR.
    ifollow.

Epic result in a muck and bullets game against a team that had only lost once.

Very close to rubbing out the disappointment of Doncaster and Blackpool.

Elated, especially because Bow and Jacko got it totally spot on tactically, and each player put in a real shift, and our fans were great too.

The first quarter we increasingly gained traction, indeed Taylor hit the post with a good effort as we started to improve packages of play around Portsmouth's general possession. Then there was a down then up moment when it looked like Karlan had picked up a hamstring injury (which I suspect he has), but he struggled on for a few minutes and scored at the far post after good approach play down our right.

Karlans replacement Ajose then repeated the Karlan trick. Now it is true that Lapslie had made a dreadful wayward pass in the middle of the first half, but just as half time approached our George seemed to almost crawl along the touchline with the ball between his knees, and as the Portsmouth defender thought it had gone out, Lapslie sprang up and away with the ball, a neat little cross, a clever deliberate back header by Taylor and there was Ajose 2-0. Lapslie was everywhere throughout the game and got a hefty kick in the face late on.

Second half Portsmouth were especially competitive and tested us everywhere but this is when we showed a resilience that gives us hope for the future. There was a forearm smash on Belik which the ref must have missed but it was pretty nasty, the Portsmouth commentator unsurprisingly called it a 50-50. And the second half was like that Portsmouth pressing quickly in numbers, and we defended well, not defended for our lives, but defended well. An archetypical 'mans' game.

Portsmouth tried everything, lots of penalty shouts, and close things, one of theirs was booked for diving. A multi-player ruckus and general chucking around of the muck and the bullets everywhere. We were very steadfast, and even though Portsmouth scored late on, and we had the 6 (six) minutes added time we didn't buckle, had a few sniffs of our own, and Portsmouth had a very late straight red when their bloke finally had had enough of (yet again excellent) Taylor.

I am of course biased, but I thought the ref did well in an intimidating atmosphere.

    Our players?
Every one of them at least a seven actually.
Steer decent keeping, Sarr was strong, Pearce and Bauer tremendous, and the tested Djiksteel responded well to everything.
In midfield I thought Belik was improved and also he improved as the game went on, the facial smash did for him and our Chris came on to put himself about. Aribo was gracious and skilled, Lapslie was wonderfully industrious, Reeves did his bit and Marshall did his different to Reeves bit when he replaced him with 65 minutes left.
Taylor and Grant are a pretty deadly duo, and no defence can enjoy an easy time against them. Taylor was very willing to cover back late on leaving Ajose hunting a few scraps here and there.

A fantastic result, we need to count the bodies left and absolutely need to be at it on Saturday against Wimbledon, and then Gillingham.

This Bowyer shaped team approaches mid season as a very hard working and competitive group. God knows how given the injury disruption, but we are serious players in the competition this season. If all of our players were fit (bar JFC) we would be able to match anybody in this division.
  • I actually quite like Pompey as a club but they certainly don't like us!
  • I had a little dig at my Pompey mate who was at the game, his response...

'Did a job on us in first half. Ref very poor. Your team (Charlton) played at it all game going down easily.

There were a few moments but they saved their best for last when they moaned about the foul on Lapslie right at the end

The kid took a boot to the bloody face, what else do they think was going to happen

Got up at midnight to leave Jerusalem to catch a flight home to make it down to Fratton to see that. Not going to get home until midnight either. Bothered? Nah. That’s what makes it special, nights like this

Please wish Jesus a happy birthday on your return and says thanks for tonight’s result. If you could have a word about getting Roland out, that would be nice too.
  • Dont get all the Pompey fans bashing tbh, i spent 7 years living and working there, and had a great time - good people. The 'inbreds' bit just sounds a bit childish tbh.
Plus in terms of their fans, they are one of the best in the country for following their team through thick and thin.

Sorry dont see it... but regardless we've been mugged off by so many teams at this level for doing the same its nice if we're giving that behaviour back

    ESPECIALLY the time wasting!!

Wowsers, not expecting that at all. Was out, so not able to keep up to date, but a great performance. An interesting team as well, Dijksteel and Sarr at FB, Fosu unused on the bench.
  • Well happy with that win, wasn’t confident at all beforehand.

    Yep. He's from Pompey alright.

  • Bit rubbish that the BBC don't have the full details and text commentary of the match!

We've got a lengthy injury list, and we're missing key players.

Pompey should be thankful that they didn't have to play our 1st team!

Going by the Portsmouth formation / line ups I think its fair we give credit to Karl Robinson for tonights win

After all he was the man to bring 4-2-3-1 to the Valley and so taught us not only how to play it yet how to beat it - What a great man!!

You're right. Let's just give them the three points for being such nice people. Hoping our team coach crashes is just friendly banter.
