  • Decent enough cover. Cover is actually pretty important if we are going to do well.
  • The article appears to confirm that we are open to offers for JFC. There are at least three midfielders I’d get rid of before JFC!!!!

If fit, I agree.  Morgan wouldn’t be one of them, however; if Garner is the great ball playing master tactician that some think he is , he will get the best out of Albie.

On paper but it appears he wants to be first choice and we can’t guarantee that.
  • I think it's do or die for Albie now, he needs to be consistently consistent, rather than consistently inconsistent in both defence and attack.

If he can also improve his shot composure and not just leather the ball every time he shoots, that'll help.

Last chance saloon Albie, now prove yourself.
  • Technical ability Albie has in abundance. The consistency and defensive awareness is where he needs to improve and he knows that.

I actually think a midfield 3 will suit him, rotating with Fraser. Playing alongside Dobson and Mcgrandles will free him up to get on the ball and make things happen. There are not many players at this level with his passing range - funnily enough the closest I have seen is Aaron Henry who also struggles with other aspects of his game.

We also need to remember that he is only 22 and is actually younger than Alfie Doughty and Josh Davison. Because he broke through very early I think we all forget just how young he is.

Big season coming up for him, hopefully under Garner he can flourish and fulfil the potential we all know he has.
Isn't basically the role he had at the start of last season?

I hate to say it, but everyone was shit last season for long periods, especially at the start. All three of them were blamed for the formation not working, which was probably contained some truth, but the bigger problem was between the manager and players.

Was pleased he see him taking some shots against Colchester to many times he’s looking to pass the ball on, but got his head up and took shots (Everyone was to blame last season for doing this). One of the things which he needed to add to his game. Hopefully, this continues in future matches.

  • Can’t wait till the season ends and he finally leaves. Just isn’t good enough in my opinion.

In and among all of our outstanding players.  I’m not saying there’s anything to suggest you are wrong but I hope you are.

Knowing our luck he’ll finally come good, refuse to sign a new deal then walk away on a free.
We'll offer him something, as he's U24 we'll get compensation regardless if he stays or leaves.

Unless Rangers come in for him, after he suddenly has an Aribo type season.

I know, but it'll be a lot less than what we'd get if he was under contract.

Oh I know - I just dont expect us to straight up release him, even if he doesnt have an outstanding season.

It was do or die this time last season. Amazing how a very decent goal in a friendly against Colchester has somehow brought back this idea that AM will be the messiah.
The woefully overhit passes, terrible tackling and poor set pieces in the same game have been forgotten.
Sadly, he’s not good enough. We’ll make a serious error of judgement if we go into another season thinking Albie should be the number 10.

  • Albie îs a very good natural footballer. His downside has been his ability to learn the wider parts of the game, positioning, when to pass/when not to pass etc. He's actually one of the best passers at the club and shooter, but he needs to nail the other side of his game, with I hope he does, but time is running out.

    Ridiculous post.

  • He's a half decent league 1 player, not good enough for a promotion drive... some people on here make him out to be a league 1 Pirlo... one of the best passers in the league, my arse

Typically over the top reaction. Friendlies are not competitive. They are an opportunity to try things.

You ignore in your post the good passes etc, but then you've decided that his career is done at 22, despite manager after manager disagreeing, by giving him opportunities above "better" players.
No, I’ve not decided Albie’s career is over at 22. Typical over the top reaction.
Nor did I claim friendlies are competitive. Quite the opposite. My post makes the point that a good goal in a friendly can’t mask the deficiencies in AM’s game.
My point is I don’t think he’s good enough for League 1. That was proved time and again last season and nothing in this pre season has convinced me otherwise. Save for a great goal I think he’s been poor. Time to move on.

  • Former Charlton academy youngster Morgan still feels he can make it as a pro.

Thats not his Brother in the picture is it? - Looks like he's had a rough paper round, unless he's a lot older.
  • Albie will have a great season ahead. The earlier posts about aspects of his game that are missing/ not good enough are all fair. But this season he will have more quality to pass to more quality to receive from and with BG having such an impact on young players Me developing them I have no doubt these aspects of his game will be improved. He has the best engine on him in the squad, is actually technically very competent and I fully believe he will be on fire this season.
  • *in developing them
  • Did alright today. There may be hope for him yet.
  • Morgan has done well this pre season, as reflected by him playing today and not last night. I've a sneaky suspicion that he's the sort of player that will do well under Garner, a manager keen on encouraging positive play with the ball.

Was very good pre-season last season, in a different position/role.
