Literally hasn't progressed in 3/4 seasons of football now, he's going to be a waste of a squad space soon, unless we let him go
Of course he has progressed. Unfortunately, he has always been the easy player to drop to make way for the more senior players, even if they are no better than Albie and often worse. I could see a middle three of Dobson, JFC and Albie working quite nicely.
To digress a little, there may be a clue to the performances of Frazer and Gilbey in that they both suffered bad bouts of Co vid but I think Albie coming on against Wimbledon may have given us a better attacking edge, he wasn't on the bench so I'm starting to wonder if he may be moved on, shame if that's the case.
I would say if Covid was impacting Gilbey it would be more from a stamina and fitness point of view, not his ability. He seems to have a decent amount of stamina and doesn’t look like he has trouble getting through 90 mins. It’s his lack of talent and I don’t think Covid can be blamed for that
So that's 100 games in roughly 3 and a half seasons?
Roughly half of our games in that time? That doesn't feel right. There seems to have been long spells when he has been out for months at a time. Anyway I digress.
How may under 23s games/games out on loan has he played in that time?
I feel he has been a bit of a victim because he got "in and around" the first team early and has been stuck between a rock and a hard place since. How is someone actually going to improve if they never play, for anyone?
Think it’s best for everyone if he moves on. Not that there’s not a player in there, but we have to be thinking bigger and he needs to go somewhere and be a regular starter.
He needs to be let go to fulfill his potential. Still feel like there is a key piece to his game that is missing and he needs a fresh start to find it. Gillingham or Orient would be ideal places for him.
Quicker than you think, clearly has bags of potential with the ball at his feet, and from what I understand is a very well liked member of the squad.
It’s just a shame that he can never seems to hold down a place. I feel this is partly due to the way we play, and partly due to the fact he is sadly probably not good enough to really perform consistently at the level we hope for.
He's a league one player, hence why he's played so many at this level. He's also young enough still to develop like so many have at his age and older.
He's under contract so unless we receive an offer he's staying.
Let us not forget he could and probably should be playing games for the U23s when not in the side, but isn't because management don't want to risk him.
I think like others have said his career needs a kick and I think a loan or transfer will prove that. I'd suggest he needs to bulk a bit too as he's just so lightweight, also his finishing (I suspect he already is working on that).
I think that his position as first choice youth midfielder is his to lose to any one of the bright sparks from the academy, should he not continue to develop.

Bigger like Fraser and Lee ? I hope if we ditch Morgan that we will do better than those two too .

Fraser who 99% of people wanted to sign and has been one of the better players in L1 for a few years and Lee who played 38 games as part of a promotion winning squad before.
Not sure "we will do better than those two", but would definitely help if we didn't bypass midfield most of the time because we can't string 3 passes together as a team.
Must admit I thought he was out of contract this summer and was happy to say goodbye to him. Don’t think he has improved from his debut in 18/19. Gave up hope he would be the next Aribo years ago.

I don’t think it was 99%. Anyway - I hope he comes good . What I would say, however , is that if we go into the season with Stockley and Chuks, we are hardly like to be playing anything other than direct football .

Fraser is an absolute top class midfielder at this level and I have zero doubts we will see that next season.
The recruitment team have got a lot wrong these past two seasons but signing Scott Fraser is a positive.
he came to us after a long injury lay off, he then caught covid, he played 4 or 5 games and was starting to settle then got injured again.
I really dont understand what he does done wrong
I think (because this is my view) it's mainly because it's just another example of a player that comes in and we never see them play - for whatever reason. The recruitment team have very little credit at this point - I have zero doubt he has quality but I have such low expectations at this point my immediate go to thought is negative.
I think Morgan is absolutely adequate for a L1 promotion chasing team. Maybe not as a starter but 100% definitely as a squad player. Happy if he stays and if we play the entertaining, possession based football that will fit him best
Whatever you think of him, he's just turned 22 and has played 100 first team games for us, 75% in League 1 and 25% in the Championship. With probably another 10+ years ahead of him he could quite easily hit 500 career games. I've also never seen him not try, he puts in a shift.
My view on him as a player, he's got very good feet and natural ability, however he lacks football acumen. It's not just about being able to hit a pass, it's about knowing when to and when not to and split second decision making, also your overall sense of what and where.
I always use two examples of players at League 1/2 level (excluding the better players who naturally drop levels as they age). Generally they either have very good footballing brains but not quite the technical ability and pace to play at a higher level. Or they have the technical ability but not quite the footballing brain.
Morgan very much falls into the latter whereas say a Jonny Jackson very much fell into the former (as would say Pratley).
Sadly I think it's time for him to move on. By 100 games if the acumen side was going to improve/fall into place it would have by now, it's often harder to improve that type of player than it is the one lacking slightly the technical ability which can be improved generally with practice. Thats said there's only merit as a club moving him on if we can recruit better - that I'm yet to be convinced of (on a permanent).
Morgan has another year. Is it likely a higher team is going to come in and buy him? Will a lower team match his salary? I suspect he will be here for another year and from his perspective, it is then down to him.

Always impressive for an academy graduate to get to 100 matches. Congrats Morgan.

he can range from playing anywhere between Paul Scholes and Paul Chuckle on his day

So Fox may count on that theory then
He's not good enough if we are serious about promotion.

Dobson could probably hit a decent corner too but we need him ready to defend.
