But he's still not the answer...

    Of course it wasn't.
But he doesn't have enough about him to make a difference
  • It feels a shame that such a meaningful number (10) has been wasted this season.

Doesn’t have much meaning at Charlton to be honest. Working backwards our recent 10s before Albie have been Aneke, Parker, Clarke, Ajose, Ceballos, Moussa, Sordell, BWP. Some all time shockers in there, probably two successful players, and even Aneke had a disastrous first season. If anything it’s good of Albie to take the shirt away to absorb its curse with his averageness.
  • He's not good enough sorry to say. Needs to go out on loan to a L2 team with a view to a perm move.
  • Agree - He should try his hardest to learn from Conor Gallagher, from work rate to awareness, intent, pressing, passing and shooting!

As much as I don’t think Albie is that good, asking him to be anything like Gallagher is probably very unfair as the latter is absolutely mustard. However I get your point that he could have learnt something.

  • Don't give up on Albie yet - there is a good player there
Its been a 'Mad ' start to the season - which is very long
I Genuinely feel we can still reach the playoffs and the squad including Alfie will be fully used -
Keep supporting him - he will come good

He really isn’t and won’t… simply because he doesn’t have a footballing brain.
  • I don't agree with the writing off of Morgan here. Yes he's got lost with the shambles of our team, but I'm sure he'll have plenty of game time in the next few months.

Not sure, only going to get tougher when JFC is back. Arter and Watson are cover for Dobson and then JFC will cover Gilbey and Lee. With Clare aswell we’re overloaded with CMs and he’s right near the bottom of the list. He’s the obvious contender to leave with 8 being a bit too much.

So what about the last few years aswell then ?! For a player that has been in and around the first team now for 2/3 years he hasnt pushed on at all and neither us fans or it seems past or present management can find his best position and let him nail it down

he has had countless opportunities now and if we want to push on and progress as a team and look upwards in this league rather than down i really dont think he has what it takes unfortunately

Genuine question, what do you see in him that thinks he could do well for the club?

Buts it’s not just this season he’s played over 70 games and he’s never played well in more than the odd sporadic match.

It’s been said before but if he wasn’t our own he’d have been gone long ago.

To say he has not come on seems a bit unfair. He seemed to listen to Bows and improve as a player as he became more defensively minded.  He will carve out a reasonable career in football I think and would be interesting to see how he did in a Jacko team playing with more intensity and confidence.

However as said above he may we'll be behind many now and so not sure he will get the chance.  Whatever happens with the lad he has always put the effort in for us imo and so I wish him well.

I agree he listened to Bowyer and worked on his weaknesses, but I think it came at a cost to his strengths. He definitely works harder now and his reading of the game defensively improved, but I don’t think his ball playing ability has developed at all. In fact, I have less confidence now than I did 2 years ago.
  • Review in early Jan.  If he is still not making match day squads take a loan in L1 or L2  and get a run of games somewhere. Then we can reassess as I don't want to write him off completely just yet.

I've never hidden my thoughts about how I've never thought he was good enough despite that I've always wanted him to do well since he came through the ranks and tbf he does always try his best. But agree above, he's been given plenty of chances especially this season. He may well still carve out a decent enough career but it might be best for all involved to move on.
Agreed, needs to follow Lapslie’s path. Could come back, play and do well at this level but I think he needs to drop down a division first.
There were some on here saying we shouldn't have let Lapslie go. Now the guy is pretty much doing nothing for a side at the foot of league two.

I personally wouldn't give up on Morgan yet, but he needs a league 2 loan in January. Having him sitting on the bench or in the stands is doing nothing for either him or us. He's contracted to summer 2023, so a 6 month loan will help us decide what to do with him. If he doesn't impress on loan then we can look to offload him in the summer. Loans worked for Grant and Doughty.

Ultimately though our ambition is obviously to get out of this league and into the championship and as with Lapslie, whilst you always want a homegrown player to do well, i just don't think Morgan is going to be good enough for where we want to be.

2 weeks ago many people here were saying that Dobson was a massive transfer error. Or that Pearce was over the hill and just wrestled people. DJ was out in the cold but has come back and played well

    It's a long season
But Dobson we've only seen a handful of games before last week and Pearce I think we all know what we are getting especially with his age. Morgan the big thing people kept moaning about was that he hadn't been given a chance, for me he's had plenty of chances now and still hasn't shown enough.

He’s been playing in a dire side under a dreadful manager .  Evidently I believe in personal responsibility but Jacko seems have perked up a few other players so let’s see what he can do with Albie .  I’m reluctant to write off players with good technical ability , but it’s up to him to show he has what he takes, granted .
  • I was going to say he’s an obvious one to sell or loan out in January but he’s not taking up one of the 22 spaces due to his age. He’ll be 22 later this season so I believe he will next season.

If he’s going to push on, and I now have big doubts, he needs regular game time. Like Lapslie he needs to move on to get that.

No doubt he’d do better under Jackson than Adkins, but putting him in for one of our CMs would mean losing one of the players who is a big reason for our improvement in the last two games.
  • He was given a fitness assessment on the pitch before yesterday's game. This was while the goalkeepers were warming up.
