A lot of players are like Albie ..they are not the complete package but do some things well..Albie can ping a pass but he does most other things averagely, seems to lack defensive awareness and loses the ball too often. I have been willing him to succeed but I don't think hes going to make it with us.
I don't agree with the writing off of Morgan here. Yes he's got lost with the shambles of our team, but I'm sure he'll have plenty of game time in the next few months.
Genuine question, what do you see in him that thinks he could do well for the club?
2 weeks ago many people here were saying that Dobson was a massive transfer error. Or that Pearce was over the hill and just wrestled people. DJ was out in the cold but has come back and played well
It's a long season
But Dobson we've only seen a handful of games before last week and Pearce I think we all know what we are getting especially with his age. Morgan the big thing people kept moaning about was that he hadn't been given a chance, for me he's had plenty of chances now and still hasn't shown enough.
He’s been playing in a dire side under a dreadful manager . Evidently I believe in personal responsibility but Jacko seems have perked up a few other players so let’s see what he can do with Albie . I’m reluctant to write off players with good technical ability , but it’s up to him to show he has what he takes, granted .
Agreed, as can be seen in the change with other players. DJ for example came back into the side yesterday and did well, after looking hopeless under Adkins. Matthews and Gunter have looked much better since the change. Stockley was ineffective and frustrated before the change etc
I've never hidden my thoughts about how I've never thought he was good enough despite that I've always wanted him to do well since he came through the ranks and tbf he does always try his best. But agree above, he's been given plenty of chances especially this season. He may well still carve out a decent enough career but it might be best for all involved to move on.
Agreed, needs to follow Lapslie’s path. Could come back, play and do well at this level but I think he needs to drop down a division first.
He needs to learn a position and role - for a young player he has been asked to do too many different things. If we could play him 10 games in a row in a single role/position that suited him then we might have a very good player on our hands - but I don't think we can offer that at present, so a loan is probably best for his development.
The fact that he has been tried in so many positions does suggest that he is showing not a little ability to coaches/managers on the training ground.
I think we have been so fortunate with academy talent over the last few years, I imagine you could make a pretty decent Premier League squad made up of academy talents we've developed and sold over recent years.
I often think it results in players who come through the academy being judged alongside talents like Gomez, Lookman etc. It's been brilliant seeing some of the talent over recent years but they are essentially one offs, the vast majority of players who come through the academy will either end up playing lower league football or bouncing around the championship and football league etc.
I dare say Albert isn't going to be sold on for millions or play in the Premier League but I think he could be a decent player for us given the time and opportunity to develop. Its easy to remember he has played what 75 games for us in his professional career? A lot of that has been as a substitute or getting a game here and there, under different managers, playing different systems etc.
Young players are often inconsistent and he has plenty of time on his side. At the moment we don't necessarily need players who are going to be future Premier League stars, we just need players who can do a decent job in League One/The championship and I think Albie has a decent chance of doing that. Who knows perhaps he will surprise us all and really kick on and develop and move on to bigger things, or perhaps he will fall away and end up falling down the pyramid. But I'm not sure he's at a stage yet where he can be written off.
He still wants to be the boy that pings the ball about at different pace to different areas of the pitch. Players who want this role also usually have the ability to ping the ball into the net from both inside and out the box. Personally, his season has been summarised in the Sheff W game.

If he does we are bang in trouble
If he does, he’s keeping good players out of the side
He's had years of coaching from Bowyer and Jackson and he still hasn't improved in that CM role. For me he still looks like a raw talent.
I don’t think it’s true that he hasn’t improved. He still needs to improve more but he’s much fitter and works harder on the defensive side of the ball than he did when he first came into the side. He looks raw still because he’s 21 and many many 21 year olds are raw. We have older players than him that look raw.
For someone to play as many games as he has, he should be keeping other players out of the side, he isn’t even making the bench now. I think that speaks for itself. He really needs to go somewhere else for games, maybe return better for it. But unfortunately have my doubts.

All players mentioned there have been good for other clubs, or for us previously. Morgan has never been anything other than inconsistent at best
I was going to say he’s an obvious one to sell or loan out in January but he’s not taking up one of the 22 spaces due to his age. He’ll be 22 later this season so I believe he will next season.
If he’s going to push on, and I now have big doubts, he needs regular game time. Like Lapslie he needs to move on to get that.
No doubt he’d do better under Jackson than Adkins, but putting him in for one of our CMs would mean losing one of the players who is a big reason for our improvement in the last two games.
3 of Morgan's best games in a Charlton shirt were under Adkins. After the Lincoln home game people were raving about him being a permanent fixture for years.
All I learnt for Adkins time about Morgan is he isn't, currently, a No10 and can't even do a job there. It also re-enforced my view that he isn't consistent enough.
Morgan will be like Kevin Lisbie and people will be asking questions about whether he can make it or not when he is 30.

It's exactly this. Before this season those defending him kept saying he'll improve when he starts regularly, he started 9 games this season and now the fault that he still hasn't performed is because of Adkins (this ignores that some players at least had some decent performances under Adkins this year).
There just always seems to be an excuse for him that just don't seem to exist for other players.
no place in the team for him a t m, not even the bench .. he's neither a potential impact sub nor a defensive option, I can see him being loaned out at Christmas .. not ideal but there you go
Wonder who'd want him if we did make him available for loan again come January.
Both Lapslie and Wiredu (Albie was probably ahead of both) went on loan to League Two teams, before the deal either got made permanent, or came back for him a couple of years later, which is what happened with Brendan.
Albie on the other hand doesn't seem to have many League Two clubs interested.
Wouldnt be surprised if his only option away from the Valley was the Conference again

If the conference game I went to the other week is any indication, Morgan would get crucified in the conference.
Morgan is that paradox of a footballer that can make a good team better and a bad team worse. He has done that under 2 different managers now, although he is not alone in that, hopefully it's 3rd time lucky for him.
A real puzzle of a player .Still only young I know but I think his time with us may be close to up.
No doubt there's talent there. Avory really rates him. He just cannot find any sort of consistency at this level. I think It's fair to say he's had more than a good crack at the whip.

Dont think 21 is young in footballing terms.
He hasnt done anywhere near enough to warrant staying at the club.
I like him, he tries his best. Not looking like he will make it with us but he will drop back a little and I am confident he will then get back to league football. He is no superstar but he is tidy and willing to learn.

There's being willing to learn and there's being able to learn. Football is littered with able players who do the odd good thing but overall don't do much.
I think Morgan can play...thats obvious....but he might need to drop a couple of levels to get any longevity in the game.
He's falling into the luxury player category and probably less than that because he possesses no goal threat (I really did think he would get a few but he hasn't even threatened this season).
He just doesn’t seem to understand what’s expected of him. Bowyer had the same problem with him but he just isn’t moving forward. Against lower tier opposition, today would have been the perfect game for him to control the game. But, he just can’t do it. Hopefully for him he can go somewhere else and start afresh but somehow I doubt it. I don’t know what his problem is but he just seems to lack the intelligence or something to understand what’s needed from him as a professional who wants to make it in the professional game. He seems to be going backwards.
It beggars belief actually that Adkins gave him the #10 shirt. He has been far from that.

At the moment he has some attributes for each one but glaring weaknesses too.
I think he should pick a role and focus on the tactical knowledge of how to play that position and stick to it.

Just depends how far he has to go backwards and how determined he is to bounce back.
