VAR just takes the game so far away from the average player over the park.
It'll kill it eventually.
So tennis & cricket has died because of hawkeye? No it hasn't.
But those sports don't have ambiguity in! Its either going to hit the wicket or not, its either in the court or not. Football is too subjective, VAR imo kills the emotion in the game, it was fine without it.
PS the only games I can recall that were better, were our Wembley play off win & Liverpool's come back Champions League Final win. 4-5 from 4-1 down, wasn't it?
Against Milan? Was 3-0 Milan at half time, 3-3 full time. Liverpool won on penalties
I thought City would win 4-1 before KO. Laporte's 2 mistakes cost City big time tonight But the tie was lost in the first leg when City missed a penalty and failed to score. Some poor defending and average keeping tonight made for an exciting game.
@JohnBoyUK, you must be chuffed, I know you have been busy with your new arrival but is it common knowledge among Spurs fans that Man City left their mark on the away dressing room after the 1st Leg? Heard this from an insider at Tottenham that damage was done. I guess city aren't used to losing.

I heard they were trying to dig through to the cheese room.
I think if we are bringing in VAR that the offsides rule needs to be
change to.... "if any part of the body is ONside, then the player is
ONside." All VAR is going to do is take away 20%+ of all remaining
goals, which I don't think is beneficial for the sport. Also, I think
the NFL has it right, that there must be "substantial evidence" the call
on the field was wrong to be overturned.
I guess I see
the point that parts of his body are offside, and that means the ruling
is correct, but I still think that parts of his body are onsides and the
rule should be changed in the era of VAR from this point out.
What on earth are you talking about?
So first of all it wasn't offside and then, when proved it was, you are saying the rules are wrong?
Also, there is substantial evidence the call was wrong... he's offside!
Just admit you got it wrong.
Read it again if you don't know what I am taking about. I have an opinion. It's not about right or wrong. This is a message board. If you want facts, go to a science message board. Deal with it.
PS- yeah, he was offsides.
Geez, I know you’re Charlton mad, you’re a top man and we wanna help you, that is without doubt offside. Let it go, move on.

I wonder what John Stones thought, seeing City letting in 3 soft goals

It showed the importance of Fernandinho. Spurs cut through Gundogan, no protection at all. Won’t be surprised in Declan Rice is a city player by July

Honestly that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, a Rice who has been coached and nurtured for a few seasons by Guardiola would be a massive asset for England. He's clearly talented and plenty of potential, Pep has a knack for taking such players and raising them up a level (for example, Sterling and Stones.) And it's not the same case as Foden, who's competing with some of the best attacking midfielders in the league, Rice is much more defensively minded and would have Gundogan and an aging Fernandinho to compete with, and would surely fancy his chances there.

Chuffed of course. Always thought we could get a result there, not like that though mind you. Know nothing of the off the pitch shenaligans.
Yids v Yids in the Semi against Ajax. Amsterdam will be fun & a warzone. We had 15,000 in Barcelona, we'll have more in 'Dam.

Valid points. Pep is a great coach but Laporte made 2 bad errors tonight and not playing Fernandinho looks a poor decision. I was convinced City would win by 3 clear goals so I'm still in shock.
Ajax have a great chance against Spurs in the 1st leg as Kane and Son will be spectators.

Isn't the rule that if any part of the player that they can play the ball with is offside then they're offside.
You can't flag offside if its a hand or arm in other words. But a heel, arse, bollock, chode, chest, head or even a hair, then it's offside.
Why would you change the rule to the opposite basically making that an entire man has to be offside for it to be offside? If you did that goal hanging situations would be even worse with players holding a hand onside to gain an advantage on the opposition defender.

It's either LBW or it's not
It's either a drop then catch before or after the ball touches the floor.
It either landed in the court markings or it didn't...
You wouldn't have Hawkeye if ambiguity hadn't forced it to come in.
To say football is too subjective is incorrect, cricket and Tennis would have been treated similarly at the time and it's only through enhancing them with their fantastic tool that we can say things like 'they're easier to referee as there's no ambiguity.'
Football should be the same. Rules are rules and VAR helps ensure they're fairly applied.
That really was a fantastic game to watch for the neutral or for a Spurs fan. It was VAR that made it so exciting. Otherwise it would have been another case of "oh well, City win again with a last minute goal!". I'd rather have it the VAR way thank you very much, especially knowing that the right decisions have been made.
Liverpool now have more of an issue with games to play to the end of the PL season than City including having to play Newcastle away just 48 hours before they play the 2nd CL leg against Barcelona.
I don't think the dates have been fully confirmed yet but no way will there be only 48 hours between the games. If they play at Newcastle on the Sunday, then the Barcelona game will surely be Wednesday.
This looks like a split second before the pass is actually made (look at the direction the player with the ball is facing). Not saying it was onside (I think it was off) but I don’t think this picture conclusively proves it.
God knows what Ericsson was thinking, a very lucky boy.

What do you mean by “before the pass was made”? The City player never had possession of the ball to make a pass. It clipped his shin (at the point of the still frame above) on the way through to Aguero.
I'm not a massive fan of VAR in its current form, but for the first time last night I felt it actually improved the game - the drama was unreal! And ultimately every decision was correct
Can't stand Cundy, absolutely clueless fool. Why is he so excited to see a team he never played for score against a team he did play for? In the quarter-finals as well, it's not even like it's the final.
Been the first time in a while I've been interested in the CL and the QF were brilliant entertainment too. It could be anyone's this year, spurs probably not so much.
I do think Barca will suit themselves against an opposition like Liverpool. Would be happy to see juve win it

VAR can work but it’s not being utilised completing correctly IMO.
Cricket still gives the benefit of the doubt to umpires call whereas football isnt doing that.
Have to admit I don’t understand what Carly meant in their post though?

In fact, you'd have to be a grand old team to play for....
Better than a penalty shoot out, in my opinion.
