Shrewsbury had the beating of us simple as that . Morris up Front is quality , aggressive , combative and scores goals kinda what magennis should do and gave Pearce and Bauer a torrid time in both games .
As for us frustrating is an understatement . Cannot fault the players effort those boys ran their bits off but just couldn’t cope with Shrewsbury physically

Just back, thought Shrewsbury did a proper job on us. Still don't think they deserved it as it was the officials that enabled them to skirt very close to cheating. To commit roughly 25 fouls without a booking and then to give the first card to a Charlton player was criminal. At one point he let four late challenges go in a row and there was a point in the second half where he gave a foul against Pearce because Beckles had him in a headlock, it was just bizarre.
Never seen scenes like the Shrewsbury fans invading the pitch and goading us at a Charlton match. I would be embarrassed if i was a Shrewsbury supporter. The stewarding was non-existent and Policing awful. While the reaction of some Charlton fans was pretty disappointing I'm really not surprised considering the people paid to stop this were not doing their job.

Well organised and well drilled in their duties the team play as that, a team. Their defence was immense today. Watching on TV it was clear, that they all knew their role and never looked like drifting out of position. They soaked up pressure in the first half, just as out title winning team had done, then when the opportunity came, BANG, game over. they are the 1-0 specialists. A telling fact on TV, after going behind for the first goal in 18 games this season, we have only gone on to win ONCE!!! Losing '14'. This shows how brittle we are. Sadly three 1-0 defeats ended out season. We are close, but this season, not close enough.
Bowyer could make a go of it given a full-season and a decent kitty. Maybe if he did a Powell and was allowed to bring in 15 new players, who knows. It'll be interesting how soon the takeover happens. Leave it late and the deals will already be done.

The introduction of Dijksteel at right back and Joe Aribo in midfield, together with Konsa, worked well and gave us more physicality and pace in the side. Dijksteel, in particular, had a horse of a game and I thought he was our best player. Unfortunately, however, the final ball was usually poor and our lack of quality and goal threat was, once again, brutally exposed. It’s a sobering thought that we haven’t scored a goal for well over five and a half hours since Jason Pearce deflected one in against Blackburn with his arse. That said, we weren’t helped by an exceptionally weak referee, who turned down our appeals for a blatant penalty and took no action whatsoever on Shrewsbury’s rough house tactics and time wasting.
My concern at half time was whether we could continue to play at that tempo and intensity. In the event, Shrewsbury went up a gear, piled on the pressure and got the goal which more or less closed out the tie. Having prised us open on several occasions at the start of the second half, that strike sadly came as no real surprise. We put some pressure on after that as they sat back and played on the break but, with the exception of a lovely cross from Mavididi, which Kaikai squandered, and a couple of goalmouth scrambles, we didn’t create very much. JFC’s set plays were generally very poor and Ajose made no impression whatsoever on their big central defenders. The paucity of Bowyer’s attacking options was illustrated by the introduction of Kaikai as Ajose’s replacement.
Overall, Shrewsbury were the better side over the two legs, although - unlike on Tuesday - I thought that defeat was harsh on our lads today. Whilst I have to admire what Paul Hurst has achieved on a shoestring, mostly with non-league signings and loan players, his team are certainly well schooled and drilled in the dark arts and proponents of the Allardyce ‘60 minute game’. They do have some good players as well, although the way they approached today’s game - coupled with the absurd behaviour of their idiotic and loutish supporters to our right - left a sour taste. Having gone two up in a play-off semi-final, what kind of moron wants to run onto the pitch and bait the away support, although I guess that’s why they all congregate in that area. It was certainly at odds with a very pleasant and civilised few hours we spent in town and, subsequently, pre-match in the Wild Pig watching the football.
As for us, great credit is due to Bowyer and Jackson for somehow guiding us into the play-offs, when all appeared lost in the last weeks of Robinson’s tenure. A great shame that Jacko didn’t achieve the 500 game milestone but there it is.
Let’s hope now that this bloody takeover gets done and that we can at last be rid of the scourge that has afflicted us for the last four years. It really needs to happen soon, as there is much work to be done and we cannot afford to drift into another close season in limbo.

With Holmes at least we had another option for someone to take a free kick of corner. JFC now takes every one but unlike Ricky never goes for goal. Without Jacko either there's no one to take a proper shot from a free kick. Make's me miss Peakie's rocket or El Karkouri's equivalent! Have we scored directly from a free-kick this year?
So disappointing but there was a lack of ideas and some tiredness. I was a bit annoyed when Ajose was replaced as he looked our most likely player to do something. I'd have been happier to replace the overrated Konsa and go 4-3-3. It was too late when we finally did go down that route with the goal-machine that is Naby Sarr.
And still no news on what happened with Marshall?

Too many ifs this season, over this game itself they had more shots on target and more goals than us so they win, we weren’t good enough far too confident before, lees done a decent job and at least gave us some good days to finish the season off - pompey away up there with one of the best in a few years, think we will be a force next year, when dickhead sells.

I think we were the better footballing side when we could get it down, which wasn't often enough. There a team of hardworkers and lumps with a couple of good technical players. As Bowyer said, our bench was young and a little lightweight and they were happy to bully us off the ball.
Morris should never have been on that field to score, shocking elbow which should have seen him gone. I would even say it needs retrospective action.
Would like Bowyer to get the job, needs an experienced head to help him along and Curbs would be perfect.
It's done now though and with a prospective new owner on his way in, we have to try and remain positive and hope we can push on.
Sadly, we were miles away. We need three touches to control the ball – our opponents take just the one. And not only today – apart from a bright start last August and a steeliness under Bowyer, we have been piss-poor all season. We lack basic technical skills.
Amos has been excellent, and made a fantastic save near the end today. Pearce and Bauer have been tough and solid throughout the run-in – but their clearances drop to the yawning emptiness of our midfield. When in possession, our advancing moves are grindingly slow and transparently obvious – dithering around on the wing, then a hospital pass to a man in trouble. Meanwhile, our opponents are all back and ready to defend. We have no fire, no spark, no danger – nothing to surprise or shock the opposition.
Case in point today – Shrews’ goal: acute, quick, incisive. We never even got close. This flaccid weakness has dogged us all season. A team from a small country town has beaten us three times in the last few weeks. Gillingham did the double over us; Wimbledon dumped us out of the Cup – and then beat us again at their crappy little ground in the league. Mid-season, we won just five league games in five months. We can’t score.
We need tackling and creative midfield players who command possession and feed instinctive, ruthless strikers. We need a clear-out. This should be Muir’s urgent priority.

I always thought that refs would curb constant fouling with a booking or two! He did finally book one of theres near the end- but the tactic of going right to the edge of a foul - sometimes going one side of it and sometimes the other can work if there is no sanction.

Konsa looks best when played as centre back. He looks lost at right back a lot of the time but I thought he did ok in midfield yesterday.
I really despise deliberately dirty sides. The worst thing that can happen is that it leads to success. For football’s sake I hope they lose at Wembley.
Bowyer has done well with a poor squad. No right back and no right winger makes for an unbalanced side and no manager could fix the fact that we have not got the decent strikers you need in any side.

Well that was painful to watch, a limited team , beaten up over two legs by another limited team, another season in this pub league it is, thanks Roland.
Bowyer is right about Shrewsbury playing long balls through the middle and trying to win the second ball and he's right to want to stop that but we couldn't. It felt like they wanted it more and had that little bit extra to get to those second balls. They were then quick to get it out wide and stretch our narrow midfield. That was their gameplan and they executed it perfectly over two legs.
Getting promoted from the Championship is harder than ever this will now trickle down to this league, so I hope the new forthcoming owners have fairly deep pockets along with a good plan, because as you probably know, whilst we believe the nightmare of Roland Duchatelet is over, any success is not guaranteed. I suppose we will just have to wait and see. But at least it feels we have our club back, well almost! Shrewsbury, like it or not deserve it over the two legs and season as mentioned in other posts. Physically they kicked us off the park and as for Charlton's form over the season, has been one similar of one suffering from Bipolar disorder. IMO looking at the positives, going up with this present squad would have been a little concerning for the new owners, as they would need an even deeper pocket first time of asking - just trying to keep us in the championship! Anyway whats done is done - as a new hopefully prosperous chapter begins. The Sun is shining, so why not try to - Live, love, laugh and be happy!
