a fit Igor might be a really good replacement. I think he was bowyers 1st choice to partner Taylor pre season. trouble is he's it fit and won't be for a while3

Igor won't play for us again in my opinion.2

Grant is a young professional footballer who has waited four years to be given a chance to establish himself and then take the opportunity to show what he can do at a League 1 level.
A 21yr old English League 1 goal scorer will attract considerable attention.
He has but one short career and he owes it to himself to take the best opportunity to establish a livelihood to support him and those around him for the rest of his life.
The challenge is who is going to provide the best opportunity. He has to balance whether he will be given the same opportunities to continue to establish himself elsewhere against the financial and other career development opportunities on offer.
I am unclear whether there is even a viable contract offer on the table from the club
To those arguing it is simply about the money - it is not. A full professional since Sept 2014 he has been front and centre of a club in turmoil. Since the takeover he has seen 9 managerial changes with the coaching staff changes to match.
In terms of a working environment he has seen huge instability where, from the professional playing staff of 25 senior and 15 academy players acquired by the takeover, there has been the churn of 99 additions made via full and loan contracts with a further 33 academy scholars progressing to full contracts.
It is a churn of 170 players in 5yrs. Less a football club more a football cattle yard.
The future with the entire senior playing staff and manager out of contract in less than 18 months does not suggest the revolving door will stop spinning to evermore excess.
He will know his development will also depend on the quality of players around him. Since going British under Slade, Robinson and now Bowyer just 16% of the 45 signings made warranted a transfer fee with the signings under Bowyer all either Bosmans, "Frees" or Loans.
I do not believe Grant will be pushed out but neither will the opportunity to secure funds be readily turned aside. I feel sure Grant will give every consideration to staying in an environment which he knows and to which he will feel some loyalty.
However loyalty does not always pay the bills and with the football factory the clubhouse has become and beyond that an executive presence akin to that of the Marie Celeste just to who exactly is he supposed to be loyal? The fans? A number of whom at the beginning of this season would have happily cast him adrift to the National League.
If there is any substance to the supposed interest of Rangers, Huddersfield, Brentford, WBA and Middlesboro then the resultant "auction" for his services will likely provide a bid the club will not turn aside.
If Grant leaves, we who sit on the sidelines can but hope Bowyer, Jackson and Gallen will be suitably empowered to continue with securing a prize all their skill and hard work to this point, has given the club an opportunity to seize.
Such are our circumstances it best serves our well being, for now, to simply focus on that prize. Whatever the challenges facing us in just four months with 18 senior staff out of contract it is for M Duchatelet, just for once, to share that focus.
Over the past 5yrs there have been too many opportunities frittered away on muddled thinking and false economies. No, there are no guarantees in this game but at some point you have to give those who you employ a fighting chance to deliver beyond the sum of their parts.
It is called leadership. It is called ownership.

There’s only two reasons he won’t leave this window:
1. No one offers a reasonable transfer fee, ie £2m+
2. Grant doesn’t want to go.
I think on 1. it’s likely an acceptable offer will come in, I suspect RD would take anything over £1m but certainly £2m+.
On 2. If it’s a southern based Club I think it’s almost certain he’d want to go, the further North the less likely it becomes.
If Brentford come in I think he’ll almost certainly go and dare I say it Millwall even more likely although he may not want to risk coming back down to league 1 as think they have a 50/50 chance of relegation.1 -

Usual top post from Grapevine however Henry could really have done with this being on the Takeover thread to get to the next milestone of 1500 pages.1

True. Although Millwall wanted him on loan and have since backed away according to Cawley.I also doubt Millwall have anything like £2m to spend on a player. Will Brentford really want to pay £2m for him? Although they may not have to with Roland. They already know how quick he was to sell Konsa to them for upfront cash.Rob7Lee said:There’s only two reasons he won’t leave this window:

My thought is that if he continues to score for us with regular football and helps get us promoted he could well be in for a bigger contract in six months time than he would get today and more likely to find premiership teams looking at him than Championship or soon to be relegated to championship teams. Going now to a soon to be relegated premier side could sour his career with the tag of failure and whilst he would be compensated with higher wages it may not last. Better from a career prospect to earn the tag of the striker that promoted a team than to be associated with relegation0

I want Grant to stay but am realistic. If he has the chance to play for a Premier league team and triple his wages then he will take it. Only a handful of english players now play in the top tier. Quite an accolade for Karlan, if he makes it, if only for a few months. He will probably get into the England u/21 squad as well. Is he good enough? None of us know. He is talented and quick and can shoot well on the run. He always reminds me of Lisbie with his dodgy distribution but maybe that can improve. Good luck to him. Hope we get a good replacement. (Hope is all us Charlton fans can ever do!)2

Ffs - anyone know if our boy Ocran is any good?0

The lad came from Barnsley into our development squad at the same time as Stevenson from Orient so @seth plum might as he watches them from time to time.EastStand said:Ffs - anyone know if our boy Ocran is any good?

Not sure if he meant that or it was tongue in cheek only we used to have a striker called Kim Grant 90/91 season onwards who sadly became the brunt of fans disatisfaction with him.Rudders22 said:

Maybe thats an idea, give Kim a 6 month contract then in the paperwork to Hudds just write K Grant, then once its all signed give them Kim2

I think it was a slip of the mind. He obviously meant Karlan.RedChaser said:

If Huddersfield really want Grant to go there they’d probably have a better chance if they wait for next season when he turns up in a Charlton shirt for a Championship gameScoham said:0 -

Honghe and Yuxi both have HUGE tobacco companies and could easily bankroll a successful team, there have been rumours about it happening a few times, but nothing has ever materialised.
