Also - we're top of the league given Holmesdale lost!!! Amazing.
Thrashed by 9-man Old Wilsonians. This league is anyone's!
I see we have Bexley next week. On an entirely unrelated note, my shoulder is completely non-functional today and may require a 2-week rest
(Obviously I'm still in to play, but 10 overs with a damaged bowling shoulder takes it out of you rather. People may be interested to learn how I sustained the injury: heroically saving a one-on-one at The Valley earlier yesterday. Adjudged my team's man of the match by a mile after an 8-0 defeat, I went on to save three penalties in a full-team shootout. Alas, I missed my penalty (acing the Crossbar Challenge in the process), and then given another chance to score at The Valley, tamely rolled my second penalty wide. I wonder if that makes me the worst penalty taker in the history of the ground? I mean Nicky Bailey only missed one)
As was discussed before in this very thread, it's pathetic that he's playing in the regional leagues
It is at leasr the KRCL Premier League though which is, apart from Bexley and Beckenham, made up of 1st teams with the likes of Roebucks having a number of pros including Chris Lewis who was caught by one 15 year old and bowled by another yesterday.
In Byron's case, because of the way he plays, you will get chances and have to hope that the fielding is up to it because, otherwise, he will make you pay.
Fair enough I guess. Didn't you just say yourself that there's a huge gap in standard between that and the KCL though? The Gould boys, if they score so many runs, ought to have a crack at the big-time, surely? They're the right age to test themselves. I guess they're trying to get their club into the KCL - not sure how they haven't done so yet tbh
I think Littlebourne are a bit different in the sense that they have Dad playing with the three sons in the same side. It just so happens that one or those two brothers are very good players. Byron tried to make it in the Pro game and it didn't work out for him but I would much rather see a team made up of family members being successful than one who brings in journeymen to "buy" the League.
Bexley 3s have been trying to get out of the KRCL PL for years - we've come to the conclusion, for the reasons stated above, that a lot of the 3rd team games are harder than those played by the 2s who are top of the KCL 2s PL.

I think that Bexley's top two sides are more or less sorted now but they might well be stronger from the 3rds downwards next week as a result of any number of players (such as those returning from Uni) suddenly becoming available ;-)
I then bowled my sixth over (34th out of 35 total) to a set batsman when Beckenham were on about 160-2.
Final figures 6-0-57-1.
Not really much I could do there - that dude had my number - and my name, DoB, address, mother's maiden name, bank details and passport info...
Only lost by 15 runs in the end (of which I scored 6 batting at 11, spanking my first ball through the covers for 4 with undoubtedly the best shot I have played by some distance), so I'm guessing Waggoners weren't too happy with my guest appearance!

Think I was too hasty in thinking those players would be returning - we've actually lost a few more! So much so that the average age of the 2s will be 20 with seven of the team between 15-19.
So it's probably fair to say that it will be a better time this weekend to play our 6's - but underestimate them at your peril!

There's no underestimation this week - but we also have several players missing, including Ash. I'm bringing up a few corpses to play for me - cricketing necromancy knows no bounds...

Update - worse than I thought with about 35 players unavailable and 7th team game cancelled as a result.
You have a seventh team? Crikey. Presumably a few of them will be facing mine and Paddy's dubious wrath now...
Some weeks we even put out an 8th side - split all told is about 75 Adults and 30 Colts overall. And yes some of those players would, ordinarily, be in the 7ths.

Eight sides?! I currently have eight players available... A few decent ones might turn out for me, though. Very hopeful they do...
Eight wicket loss. Missed our best bat (averages 151 this season) and had practically no bowling. I opened up yet again, and as a very slow spinner, I really shouldn't be doing that.
Here's hoping for a full strength team for the rest of the season!
Bexley 2s scored 206-5 and for the second week running Seb was next in. After 3 overs Lordswood were 30-0 but ended up 121 all out off 41 overs. I know - I couldn't quite work out what was going on either.

How did your 1's get on?
They won - we got 164 of which Cloudy (he's one of the two Scottish players who we will lose for two weeks because they will be playing against England) got 78. Lordswood were about 105 all out.
thought there might be a bit of gloating from AA this morning
excuse me ..you ve already had that conversation -ish
I didn't what to gloat because that wouldn't be kind but did want to say that I was surprised that OC's could only manage 82 against a bowling attack that included two 15 year olds, a 14 year old and a 12 year old.

I'm too kind to mention that though.
I'm completely unsurprised.
I was missing my two best batsmen (Ash, and our keeper, who dropped out on Friday night), one of our openers (scored 63 in week 1), and two of my guys (10 and 11) were impossibly hungover and a specialist fielder respectively.
Also, our stand-in keeper tried to hit everything out the park (as he always does), and our number 6 ran himself out like a headless chicken, while I was terrible. I'd also never played with our opening bat before.
To be honest, I'm just happy we didn't concede the fixture.

Right attitude Paddy ,they are lucky to have you ...if you skipper the lowest team you are on a hiding to nothing losing players at the last minute ...our lot were relying on a chap who lives in West London (who works as an undertaker) who became available at the last minute ..at the last second a few extra people decided to die in Kensington so he didnt show...so we only had 10 ..thats Club Cricket !
